    It's a bunch of different tables with contstraints and triggers that need to be created and managed manually. I thought it was self-explanatory.

    triggers are straight from hell. and there isn't anything firebird has that you can't get in oracle. i spend a good part of my day hating oracle sometimes, but it isn't because the product lacks features, or options.

    yeah - that's asinine, jumping from mysql to oracle. and frankly, there are some things that only a product like oracle can do. but between mysql and oracle there are many open and closed solutions.

    Stuff like that is why, as much as I love Postgres, it isn't replacing Oracle any time soon. Not when things like partitioning are called for.

    huh - it's interesting to see this - pudge does lots of it too but usually keeps it to his journal. not saying it's bad, just don't know that i've seen other editors actively advocating political positions in the front page threads.
     
    will there be some sort of 'official' slashdot take on things or is it just more of a free for all? and if so, does the editor thing come into play at all - as far as moderation and what not, or are you guys operating under different rules than the rest of the participants? just curious.

    Or you could look at it another way - what better place to let knowledgeable people publicly post an informed discussion of the technology?

    Or should we just let all the comments indexed by google be made by people who don't have a clue?

    Discussing it here is a good thing in my book.

    Yeah - I'm no engineer or chemist - but when gasoline combusts, the gasses that are created expand and drive the piston. The heat is a byproduct - wasted energy basically. So I don't think being cool would be a problem - but the claim that there are no byproducts at all doesn't work. If nothing at all is produced when it burns, the engine wont go. I'm sure there is more that's wrong here, I'm just not educated enough on this stuff to figure it all out.

    There you go. They say you can drop it right into a tank and run it in any gas burning vehicle. Just start selling it for $3.50 a gallon or something like that and bypass waiting on investment. Means more profit for them in the end.

    Maybe they should switch to measuring it by one of those blue tubs in the picture? I've seen those for sale at wal-mart and target so it should be something that everyone can relate to.

    I think the implication he is trying to make is that he can sell it at that price without taking a loss. The whole thing looks like a huge hoax anyway. I like the truck engine that runs without getting hot.

    tfa says it burns without generating any heat. i'll be taking a bath in this stuff every night, setting myself on fire, and running around the block screaming. i think the neighbors will get a real kick out of it.

    and it will burn off completely. when it's done- no odor or residue. i mean how great can it get?

    just hopped over to cnn to see what they have on this. could not find a single thing on the front page. all the space is given to some jon benet ramsey development. crazy. I do see it very small on the front page of msnbc.com - still a lot more space to the ramsey thing though.

    I'm going to assume you are a troll - but for anyone else who reads this thread, it is easy to make a mistake, especially when recounting events over a long period of time. It is easy to say things that can be taken in more than one way, and if one of those ways happens to imply violation of a law, it could cause real problems. My perspective is not garbage. An innocent person, through innocent conversation can end up going to prison when they have done nothing wrong. Our penal code is so complicated I would never speak to law enforcement about anything without someone handy who is well versed in law and on my side.

    A perfect example of this is Martha Stewart. They decided that she never did anything wrong with regard to why she was being investigated, but that she wasn't truthful when she spoke to investigators. So she went to prison for lying to them. To me, that is insane. And the most important lesson was exactly what you say - don't ever talk to the cops without representation present, even if you didn't do a single thing wrong.

    I use AVG on a couple machines. I didn't really think about the traffic tracking piece of this when I saw it working, I just thought about it slowing me down, increasing bandwidth use, etc. and I turned it off.

    I know most people don't mess with defaults - and I'm not defending them as far as the agent thing and all that - but it was easy to do.

    On the negative side my avg icon in the systray has a big exclamation over it like something is really wrong - when I know it's just because I turned off a piece of functionality I don't want to use.
