First Max Payne Trailer Released
Kotaku has pointed out the first official Max Payne trailer for the movie based on Remedy Entertainment's third-person shooter. The movie stars Mark Wahlberg, and should be hitting the streets this coming October.
what's the deal with the birds?
It's hard to believe that's how Micronians are made. Why don't we see it right now by having you both kiss one another?
Looks great to me: dark, stylish and remnants of Frank Miller (thinking Sin City). Can't see Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne though.

Actually looks like they have captured the nature of Max Payne (or at least that's how it seems from this brief trailer). The Hitman film was good, but not great, and the two Lara Croft offerings were pretty poor, but this looks promising.
Any fool can talk, but it takes a wise man to listen.
Yeah, I would have liked Wendy Hoopes. I think she could do it.
Belief is the currency of delusion.
I always thought this guy from this one soap opera reminded me of Max Payne. I always said if they make a movie he should play the part of Max Payne.

Maybe him or possibly Bruce Campbell.

almost everything I saw reminded me of the first game.
the checkered floor, the candles, the crib and bedroom fading to unsaturated darkness, the bullet time!
This looks like someone might actually have gotten the source material right.
They're using their grammar skills there.
Anyone care to explain the angels/vultures?
... Are you sure you watched the right trailer? I see many instances of bullet-time in it.
they manage to capture the spirit behind the voice-overs of max and the sound track, I will be thoroughly impressed. The cello solo from the intro/menu of Max Payne II still haunts me. That dark, gaping noiresque(?) feeling just permeates off the strings.

Thank god they didn't cast Keaneau Reeves as the main character.
"Like woah, the sky was totally raining down pitchforks of ice"
"The pills totally eased the pain, dude!"
"I know bullet-fu!"
That said, the film could be decent enough. I'd be willing to bet that none of the allusions to Norse mythology make much of an appearance however.

Isn't that the same Marky Mark from the Funky Bunch and the underwear comercials?
"I guess I'm gonna fade into Bolivian."
I doubt it's just me, but does anybody else, no matter how good a movie is, really dislike the ones made from books/games?
I tend to nitpick every single little thing that deviates from the game/book. I feel like if they're going to make a movie, they should either make a seamless transition of the book's storyline (this is why I hated the Harry Potter movies...) or just come up with an original idea.
I did see Fight Club before I read the book, and thoroughly enjoyed both (though the book was a little ruined by already knowing the ending). I'm sure that these kind of transitions are possible to do good, but they've got a lot of people to please from the get-go.
SUOMI! SUOMI! SUOMI!
They've seemed to have capture the dark edge of Max Payne. Now let's see how they handle the strong, humorous archetypes from the games without making them silly stereotypes. The Italian mobsters were caricatures in the games, but lovable caricatures that were as fun to shoot at as to listen to. Also, there's a hint of bullet time in the trailer, but I wonder how much of it is needed for the film to feel like a true Max Payne. If used right it could be just right, but it's another thing that easily becomes stereotypical.
How can you make a Max Payne movie WITHOUT abusing the bullet time?
Its like saying about the Superman movie "I hope they don't abuse flying effects... cause.. you know... its unrealistic that a man can fly."

You have either not seen the movie, or have not played the game.
Which one is it?
But yes... Mark Wahlberg "Max Payne" movie does seem to be targeted at just that kind of audience you represent.
People that think that Timothy Olyphant "Hitman" movie was a good movie based on the "Hitman" games.

Wow, can't wait for that movie to come out. Loved Mary Wahlberg in Shooter and in Four Brothers. Hoping that his performance in this movie is that good. Usually i am not so into this dark movies but it seems nice with good special effects. We'll see!

The preview looks good but if it truly was it would've been out during the summer or during the holidays. I'm sorry for being the bearer of bad news but anything from the second-half of August until early November is going to be mediocre at best. It's just not a time of the year that good movies come out.
One example (of many): Doom came out in October.

Remember the game? In bullet time, you were slowed a little, and the enemies and bullets were slowed far more... you could dodge the bullets.
In this trailer, all we have is standard slow-mo, with all actors slowed the same amount, and firing blanks (not dodgable bullets like in Max Payne). The hero dodges not a single bullet in the trailer. The game is about entering bullet time and dodging bullets in just about every other firefight.
'Cause that made me so mad I've never bought another game...
I have an odd sense that to keep a PG13 rating they've removed all hints of drug use... which would be unfortunate
I dunno, fun game but I dont see a movie being much more then a second rate Tarrentino rip off. Also, am I the only one that thought Max Payne was modeled on Michael Madsen?
Ohh spiteful one tell me who to smote and he shall be smolten!
The truth was a burning green crack through my brain. Actors floated by on strings shooting blanks, while CGI animation filled in the gaps.
I was in an action movie. Funny as hell, it was the most horrible thing I could think of.
However, I must admit that this trailer really brought me around! I love the Max Payne games, and the trailer sure has the right vibe. Lets just hope that they don't screw it all up... By the way, Mona looked (in those 3 seconds) really awesome!!

I'm actually kinda worried about how this will turn out . . . after all, movies inspired from video games don't really have a good track record . . . http://news.gotgame.com/hollywood-and-video-games-a-volatile-affair-2/
