It is very easy. The internet boom in europe started with the arrival of ZTE and Huawei in the european market ( 2004-2006) . Faced with chines competition the local vendors ( Alcatel , ericsson , siemens ) were compelled to reduce their prices to match the chinese. Thus with less money the carriers were able to offer bigger speeds. This is not possible in USA where the chinese cannot enter due to us paranoia and local lobby. Another contributing factor is the density of people in europe vs usa ( suburbia anyone )?
As a guy who lost 70 pounds of fat over 1 year I can tell you that the article is correct. This is due to the fact that fat tissue is replaced by muscle tissue , the latter beeing denser than the former. The whole point of trying to loose weight is not to care about how much you loose. The most important thing is to start exercising , and keep exercising. I did not watch my weight at all in the begining , all I cared was to run for at least 45 minutes for a session. But over the time , running became less tiring and more rewarding due to the endorphins released after the effort.
You cannot be more in error. What stalin managed to do is to pump up military expenses at the cost of the civillian expenses ( i.e. goods manufacture , constructions... ). The living conditions in Russia were appalling compared to those in western nations , and some survived to be encountered in current russia. Also - environment was neglected , and so on....
Oh boy! Beeing a Romanian (just joined EU on jan 1/07) I can say that you are livng in a world of nightmares. I have just completed an EU journey using only my national ID card - no passport needed:P . I felt really free , not for the first time ( the first time was my first visit to EU ) . Customs - in EU you do not have customs , after all EU stands for free trade between its borders. Loonie - I do not understand how your comment hit +5 ; it should have gotten -19999999
Well , if you think that in Vietnam and other countries windows costs a lot of money , then you are WRONG! It is very easy to get a pirated windows version , so I do not think that the cost for windows was taken in account for the price given in the article.

Try to explain me how to do that . I found out that GUI's are incredible from single-user perspective but if you have to show to some "new" users thy become a real pain .
Good ideea -./gov , but a better one should be Forum.gov.The advantage is mutual - for the politican and for the public. the public can raise questions witch can be wiewed - and the politician has the possibility to choose the questions. Trolls ? Well i currently browse./ at +3level - and still get a good ideea about what's happening , plus i catch some interesting ideas. The only problem is why hasn't anyone thought about combining the./ moderator system with a forum - thus giving power to the viewers.
P.S. To my surprise i found out that in my country 2 politicians have joind a forum. Apart from the current trollers some people have raised some interesting questions whitch got good answers. P.S.2 Slashdot is history now - they should start teaching the history of slashdot in schools !!

Your post is typical of the slashdot couch potato.
China is not like this - take it from a guy which was there.

Nah , i expect NASA to be very careful about security . I think that the ideea is more like a "space intranet" used only by authorized people .
