Microsoft has fewer than 40,000 employees. With 400 billions, you can offer 10 millions to each of them to resign on the same day (to join your own company if you like). (a more efficient scheme is to offer each one 50 times of his/her annual salary.)
>Our society--particularly our highschool >society--accords outgoing and friendly people (who >tend to move toward social activities like sports >and dating) limitless respect,
Seems like a harsh and unfair society to me. And I don't see that outgoing and friendly are sufficient to make one good at sports and dating. Instead, physical strengths/skills and being good-looking are sufficient.
> 14 year old boy and his friends, and their ability to control gigantic robots.
Did you finish the series? If so, then you should know that they are not 'gigantic robots'. BTW, I have never heard anyone referring Asuka and Rei as Shinji's 'friends'.
Agree:) I really hate Shinji in EoE. Such a stupid decision... But I guess it depends how one interprets the ending. Esp., did other things reverted their states...
The major characters are biologists and computer scientists, (and probably some physicists and mechanical engineers), and their children. When do you have an anime (or any movie/tv) like this? I'd say that Evangelion is more intellectual than 99% of Hollywood movies.
They fixed that english overlay problem in the later DVDs. The boxset contains a re-release of disc 1 that does not have the overlay. Heard that Gainax was very angry with this two.
I had watched the entire Evangelion series + movies, and Lain. In my opinion, Evangelion is so much better than Lain. The most interesting part of Lain is probably that IPv7 (or v8?). Also Evangelion makes a lot of sense if you make some effort---at least the biological-theological thread, even if you don't like the psychological thread.
Just get the boxset, which consists 8 DVDs - 26 episodes of the TV series. I had already received mine from www.planetanime.com. You won't regret:) Then get the movie later (I'm sure you will if you watch the boxset). The movie is essential and can be considered as an 'alternative ending' to the TV series.
You're mistaken. Anime is much more than 'just visuals'. Have you ever watched any serious anime like any of the Miyazaki films or Gainax series (e.g. Evangelion)? IMO, they are deeper than almost everything produced by Hollywood (including those with 'human actors').

Personally, I like the movie a lot. The graphics is superb. The story is not as good, but well, I really don't think it's any worse than a typical hollywood movie.
I think Square's major fault is its attempt to please both American and Asian markets. FF's characters all look 'american'. Even Aki is like an American-born Asian instead of a native Asian. (I'm an Asian)
But since Square is a Japanese companies, many aspects of FF the movie is still more like an anime than a Disney cartoon. So in the end they created this half-asian half-american movie that fail to do well in either asia or US.

I think the ultimate goal CG is to make CG
characters indistinguishable from movies of
real people. Final Fantasy is more advanced
than Toy Story because the characters are more
realistic. We can't avoid this, this is a part of
technological advances - for example, few
people would still shoot B&W movies after we
have color ones.
> I would get a GPRS card for the laptop. Calling plans will soon adapt to that use, they have in Europe
So when you want to look up a phone number from your laptop, you will need to call your laptop from your phone? And then more phone numbers for your PDA, digital camera, and mp3 player too? How about hands-free headphone? Can we put a GPRS card in the headphone?

Devices that I'd like to have wireless connection with my computer: mouse, keyboard, PDA, digital camera, mp3 player, gamepad, mic, headphone, remote control.
Traditional Chinese to simplified Chinese is a many-to-one mapping. So simplified Chinese has fewer characters.

I liked Escaflowne too. But the story of Escalfowne to Evangelion is like Harry Potter to LOTR.

:)
I really don't think it is 'anti-christ', but I'm an atheist myself. I'm sure it will offense fundamentalists though

Don't you like the 'parallel universe' part (where they go to school in the morning)?
Agree :) I really hate Shinji in EoE. Such a stupid decision... But I guess it depends how one interprets the ending. Esp., did other things reverted their states...
I think some plots in Eva are related to some Jewish scriptures and 'Dead Sea Scrolls', not really bible and christian mythology.

Wow, I think the Second impact is Japanese-only?

Agree, but it's +5 now! This really reflects how ridiculous is the modding in slashdot these days.
