    Sure, a centralized system is always prone to "deletion".

    Why then not design a variant that is decentralized and no single party is in control of the data? Just like the internet, problem --> route around it.

    Indeed, reverse path filtering should be mandatory, especially because it is so easy.

    Also, RFC3514 should become a part of the IP standard. Not setting the appropriate bit from the sender side should then be punishable with eternal flogging.

    The problem, however, is that it may run afoul of European law by discriminating between national and European registered companies. It will depend heavily on the exact wording and application of the law whether the EU will allow it.
    The loophole should be closed on EU level, but /that/ is a hard thing to do with all the lobbying going on. Maybe it is time that the tax-systems get better harmonised between EU countries and sanity can be implemented (I know, utopian thoughts, but still).

    Yes, but it did not hurt the bottom line. The NSA has prevented many, many economic failures. Terrorists are so last decade. The real value is in the economic edge you can blackmail from all others.

    But the start of a very productive work-day is upon us. The shutdown of facebook may recoup some of the lost economics from the government impasse.

    Also, it reminds me of the final scene in Surrogates, where all people suddenly go outside to see the world again. It is a nice idea, though. One is allowed to dream of a better future.

    I don't get it. This guy should be beaten? But the hundreds of stationary cameras, operated by the state, which are doing exactly the same thing is OK? I think the _state_ needs to get a beating.

    He makes it a spectacle, yes, but he has a very good point. We are constantly stalked by cameras and mobile phones. I think you need to get your priorities straight.

    So you can map the corruption of the politicians. That would be a positive way to use computing power.

    It may be a good exercise for every so-called democratic country to do this not only at the political level, but also at the departmental level.
