    It's a problem, certainly, but it may not have any bearing on the outcome of this particular election.

    It doesn't matter whether the votes would have made a change or not. It is the basics of fairness that dictates that all votes should be counted. The margin of error should not play a role. If people are asked to vote, what is the problem with accepting the responsibility for counting them? The precedent set here says: we don't care about your vote since it doesn't matter. That is a very dangerous precedent because people will start losing interest and faith in the democratic system this way.

    This can surely cause some ethical discussions. Next we try to poke into a mouse, cat, dog,... human. The real question we should be asking here whether this should be done all the way.

    I can see the benefits of using external stimuli, but when does that go over to control. A grey area ahead...

    The problem was that they allowed two versions of the OS distribution. Obviously, most will opt for more features if the financial difference is small enough. If media player had to be downloaded separately for any version, then there would have been a difference. If this new case again allows for two versions without a significant monetary difference, then it will end in the same way: a dead duck.

    Anyway, it drains a good amount of money out of MS each time they have to comply. That has got to hurt in the long run.

    I actually think that the absolute number of BOFHs is constant. They are wilfully more exposed now by the survey. And, as all good BOFHs will do, is make sure that the survey is tainted by a --clickety-click-- unfortunate mishap caused by the surveyor. There is nothing more rewarding than a good survey beating.

    But the requirement of permit does not stop anybody from experimenting. You also need a drivers license before driving a car. Did that actually stop those who just drove away without?
