but, just becuase the FAT table says that the partition is (x) size does not mean once you get past the true phyical limitation of the hard drive does not mean the whole house of cards is not going to come down. I too could use Norton Disk Edit to make the FAT table say lots of other intresting things... Like I had a 300 gig drive on a 20 gig. It's called a currupt FAT table.
I guess I dont understand the big deal. If dont like it dont buy a Tivo. They do not lie to us, they admit they sell the information. Who cares? I dont fear the loss of my rights nor do I fear the SS showing up on my door. It's TV people, what rights are there in TV viewing? If you dont like DONT WATCH (or buy a tivo).
Would the sales of the CD picked up anyways? I mean, summer concerts, new albums out and pushed sales, so is it just a spurious correlation that sales went up? Are they hyping something they created to justify the attack on the P2P community?
That Security Software and Anti-Virus companys will be able to block detect this "code" as dangerous just like they do with any other machines eating code. The Senator, can want to stop the file sharing and nuke those machines all he wants, but there is money to be made in stopping this stupid idea so there will allways be a fix/block.
I have had both and have "hacked" both... Currently I use the ReplayTV for it's ease of use for video extraction. DVArchive is a program that alows you to emulate another ReplayTV on your computer for unlimited file storage. Also you can stream from or to your ReplayTV. All that without having to touch your box. Tivo requires voiding your warranty. YES, Tivo has a much better UI and is eaiser to navigate, but. For my $ I prefer easy no voiding warranty access to my PVR and less effort. I respect the TIVO hacking community that I was apart of, but I got bored.
All forms of Art are open to subjective opinion. Geeks tend to think of how they setup and use there computer as artistic expression. It' only follows that we will try and hack beer and make our own. Yeah beer above 7% alcohol.
