We really should stop pretending that third world militaries are worth the trouble of trying to do joint operations with. I have no truck with joint training, but when troops are using live rounds we really have to be sure of 100% force integration.
In a similar boat, but in my case another contractor picked up the contract and is getting all the recognition. Still, I get the warm fuzzies knowing somthing I wrote is still being used and is appriciated.
When I ponder the ink cartridge issue in my head I try to relate it to the auto industry. With manufacturers oursourcing their pars more and more, the chances of two products from competing products containing the same or very similar parts increases. On the one hand the manufacturer is trying to determine the value of manufacturing a component over its lifetime. On the other hand the consumer wants the parts as cheaply as they can get them. Either way the R&D and engineering that want into designing the component should be reimbursed. Same thing with drugs. Same thing with art.
But then again the gas and fuel filling recepticles on cars are universal. But in that case the engineers in one industry (automotive) were makeing their product compatible with a system designed by another industry (petroleum). Maybe a company should come along and supply really good ink at commodity prices. Maybe printer companies wouold then have an incentive to standardize. Of course they would also probably have to char 5X for the printer or just plain get out of the printer business.
I fail to see a decent reason that Sun should do it. Lower the cost of J2EE, sure, but give it away? Is Sun were nothing buy a service businesss I could possinbly agree. Buy Sun wants to sell Java app servers on Sun hardware. Or at least so they get a cut of the package sale.
That attitude lead to WWI and WWII. Either you invest beforehand to keep advancing technology or you face a very uncertain future. The UN means nothing. NATO means nothing. We MUST be capable of defending ourselves regardless the foe.
In my opinion the EU is headed for disaster. Military budgets are cut to the bone to the point where the US and possibly the UK have the only forward-deployable forces in the world. Like a real life "groundhog day" people who think they know better keep suggesting that the scourge of war has been removed from the realm of possability. Time and time again we see this isn't true. I've read near verbatim complaints about worring arout Hitler, Stalin, etc.
It isn't pure speculation to suppose that the EU is headed in the direction the US did during the formation of our republic. Industrialized states keep shoving reforms down the throats of pooper agrarian states. Sound familiar?
tkWWW is a Tk interface to (WWW), which lets you send embedded buttons, scrollbars, etc in hypertext written for WWW.
The Tk browser has the following advantages.
1. Since the entire user interface is written in an interpreted language, it should be very easy to make modifications and extensions to the system.
2. tkWWW can be configured with the "htext" widget which makes it is possible to imbed Tk code into hypertext or with the "text" widget which makes it possible to display multi-fonts. In the next few months, there will be a new revision of tK which will allow imbeded tK code with the "text" widget and support for the tkWWW "htext" widget will be discontinued.
Where can American businessmen go to get good outsourcing contacts or contacts for Indians and Pakistanis interested with teaming up with Americans on business projects? On the web China seems the most accessible.
I was flying into Melbourne Florida airpost last week and honestly Cape Canaveral appears barely developed. Hard to imagine they need the room that bad.
Using Microsoft's DRM in the only way you can ensure tyou will be able to update the DRM for flaws or improvements. MS installes the DRM on every OS it ships and can force the updates down user's throats.
And your statement yet again propagates the myth that the world needs "saving". How conceited we are to think that anything we do to this planet, a planet that has seen near extinction of every species serveral times, would be of consequence. The human species has only existed for a blink of an eye in the life of this planet. The human race may someday need saving, probably from itself, but don't shed a tear for the planet.
Our company has banned cellphones and PDAs with cameras inside the workplace for secutiry reasons. They have also banned wireless network devices. Whenever someone orders a new laptop the admin has to disable the wireless network card before turning it over to the user.
I bet this is some big kickback to the paper industry for bribing politicians. 14pt documents use more paper.
Or....
This is just another example of how old people are taking over the country. Us young people don't need big fonts, why should we pay for big fonts only old people need?
The problem is that peopel have difficulty seeign things at arm length. They currenly have to stoop over to see things even with a magnifying glass. What they need is a magnifying glass on a rope.
What happened to having an extra plug in the computer power supply for another device such as a monitor? How about two, one for the monitor and another for the printer. Or an extra plug in the printer for the scanner?
Other things to consider are things such as: combo cable modem/wireless router, combo scan & fax printers, wireless kerboard and mouse combos.
Having said that, the area behind my computer looks like a rats nest too.
One thing that stikes me every time I drive through southern states (North Carolina,South Carilina, Georgia, Alabama, etc) is the compete lack of public self-respect. Especially on the major highways. Each state has tons of sites to see and even sites woth seeing, but you wouldn't guess it from the highway.
Instead of seeing the museum as an expense they should view it as a moneymaker ($tourism). Alabama politicians must be just plain stupid to let the U.S. Space and Rocket Center fall apart. Maybe the federal government should step in and confiscate these national treasures?
It wan't biometrics but it wasa so-called "smart card". In the early 90's I was stationed aboard the USS Enterprise when the Navy decided to test a smartcard system. A small strip on your ID card contained identifying information. We were required to swipe as we came and left the worplace. Afer the first month big brother handed our reports by division what the average hours spent per week wer. Afterthe second month they were identifying to the workcenter level. Before it got to the per-person level the system came to an abrupt end. I'm pretty sure some phonecalls to elected officials got the program sidelined. You really don't know how little you matter to your employer till they consider you litte more than a tiny statistic.
The article is extremely misleading. It quotes "conversations" but the important statistic is the number of authorized State and Federal wiretaps...only 1358. The average number of conversations per wiretap exceeds 2000!

You guys just killed Stargate. Every time a SciFi show is mentioned here a cancellation notice follows within three months. Damn.

Sounds like Image Subject Recognition technology related to facial recognition.

I smell a MS software audit for all EU governments.
Is anyone aware of an opensource app to recieve webcam video via USB or 1394 and display it on a PDA?

How the hell do you lose so much money selligng somthing that has a 10,000% markup?

Only one of these is being acknowledged. Coprorations seem to have way too much control over government.
