This is true, however it reminds me of this story.
Apparently NASA wanted a method of being able to write in zero gravity. They spent several million $$'s on research with Parker Pens and came up with the 'space' pen. You can still see them advertised every now and then by Parker Pens.
The USSR when confronted with the same problem baught a pack of HB pencils.
There are far more rogue boxen out their than the PHB's know about.
The best example I can come up with was for a company I once worked for tat had a Netscape Enterprise Server, that kept hanging once every 10-15 hours or so. No one in IT could work out why, so they rote a script to reboot it every eight hours.
When I came in I asked if we could switch it to Apache, and got the usual 'no one to blame' responce.
I eventually wared them down and was allowd to run Apache for a two week trial.
One month later and I'd 'forgotton' to switch the system back. The PHB was verry impressed by the uptimes of the Enterprise Server.
Actually i'm dyslexic and i don't have a spell checker on this machine.
Eye have a spelling checker.
It came with my pea sea.

I don't think you are right hear. If you had said that most applications where transmittion based I would have aggreaded with you.
Hear at the PA in the UK we handle a vast amount of Sports data from football (soccer) to athletics, more and more of that data is being generated, transmitted and processed as XML.
There are several reasions for this, the three I can think of off the top of my head are
1) is that XML is mostly repeated text which allows very good compression rates
2) XML makes it easy to grab just the data you require out of a stream and discard the rest.
3) XML must meet sertan criteria in order to be valid, which allows most of the processing to be done by pre built modules sutch as expat
That does not mean that things can go wrong. I have one feed, I won't say from whome, that isn't well formed and another with 160 diffrent DTDs most of which could have been merged if somone had thaught about things first.
just because TBL dreamt up the web (although gauging from his OWN comments in the book, the idea wasn't solely his) doesn't mean that whatever he thought the web should be, must be. his dream has been commercialised and has suffered the consequences. whatever he says is actually quite redundant and should be taken with a pinch of salt considering that he's an intellectual and microsoft are a large money making commercial beast

You can only launch at certain planets at certain times if you want to be able to slow the space ship down enougth to get into orbit at the far end.
If you get out side tht launch window the cost/mass of carrying extra fuel becomes prohibative.

Lets take the simple example of a six sided die.
Thus roling a 6 happens on average once every 6 roles.
If the first number I role is a six. How many roles would it take before I can expect another 6.
The answer is that you can't answer that question.
I could role 6 6's in succession or I could role the die one hundred more times before rolling another 6.

No but the signature does identify the developer so you can at least deny code from people you don't know.
