If your summation of the situation is correct then we will have two internets. The Microsoft controlled one and the other Wild Wild Web. Just what we need MS in control of business and economic communication world wide and free speech for the rest. George Orwell could never have guessed this situation. Do you trust MS with your ideas and information, just ask Corel, Apple, AOL, IBM and all the other victims.....what they think about that! Your business is next. Do not go into the computer/software business there you are the lunch.
Funny I do have report turned off and use win 98 second, I do not worry about security or crashes, because I never put any shit on my Win partition that is important to me anyway! dd if=0,1 of=ad1 cleans windows bug shit, should call it the great winde-xer. Fot that matter format C/s can work fine too if you really are a glutton for punishment like me. I love cfdisk I really do, don't you?
Go and try to include the image of an RCMP in dress costume on a flick. Then tell me about the lack of importance of the GPL, it is a total replacement for those who want to protect their creation and contribution to knowledge and art in perpetuity. Better still go to some of the worlds great art museums and try to get authorisation to display some great art on line. Then you will get the picture of what is really happening!
There does need to be a business community developed among Open Source, and the very idea free not as in free beer. To go about bashing (even if you are a born again basher) those who seriously try to make a living with technology is just stupid.
The best possible way to accomplish this is to set a model of co-operative enterprise that todays over-blown corporate despots cannot compete with. If you study nature co-operative systems invariably will out compete when up against closed single modeled systems. The fundamentals of this are already in the GPL which will go down in history as one of the great documents of our time. Along with other human social documents like the Magna Carta. RMS really is a visionary.
For your info Ghyslain is a French Canadian name, (the pronunciation is GISlane) I believe the masculine equivelent of Chryslain, (pronounced CRISlane) I have seen both with different spellings like many French names that got miss spelled by da hinglish. This is common because the Canadian/British government of about 1790 did not care too much how they spelled names, the census takers, though literate were in a hell of a hurry. They usually did not speak French and it was a long way between towns and farms. The individuals just changed their names to that spelling over the centuries. Much of the same thing happened in the US with European name spellings. This same change in spelling happened to my last name, as it has happened to many North Americans. My family has been in North America since the 1760s, so we have seen alot of these things happen.
Ok so the.Net guys are succeeding in degrading the real value of the internet. Lets see Xbox, Music files, Movies. The price of band width is bound to go up, not down. The economics just are not there sorry.
Local ISPs, Universities, and.orgs will not be able to afford to buy a big enough pipe WIFI or not. The bandwidth cost of so called entertainment for the masses will put an end to the good part of the net. Band width for OSS and things like Univerity knowledge data bases will become too expensive. Many sunsites are already putting in band width limiters, I have noticed a considerable drop in speed, already. Microsoft has it right with bread and circus software, the trouble is the bread part is a hoax, and all pipes will send cash to Redmond.
Now it won't just be caravans of American motor homes holding up me up when I go fishing for rainbows in the Cariboo lakes. You will be able to get in traffic jams on our lakes as well! Personal water craft are bad enough but this is rediculous. You can bet someone will bring out a cheaper version for fishing with this contraption. Transport Canada will most likely be pressured into alowing it! I think will go out and put out some well placed dead heads.
Ok I am fairly ignorant of closed MS DirectX source code, however his code uses math, to map and change a wave, from this map he somehow has figured out a way to generate samples. His interface works like a fractal generator, you mod the math to change the wave, then send the result to a software model oscillator he has created, the output of which is saved as a wave file. So essentialy he uses the processor crunching to create a wave file. And yes he is brilliant.
As far as DirectX and general midi the best way for a musician to notate and create music on a computer is to first add the new special (battering) type of ram. If music notation software did not use midi at all then it would be a real product. I have had nothing but trouble caused by midi when using notation software, and I have used most of them! I write music with my ears first and use paper.
I have also heard of midi files that can contain special sound font instructions that are actually a little MS special.exe from hell. So you can get a case of the worms from a midi file. This is what I meant by a forked up process. Of course a good cfdisk session can fix all that. Midi is fine for a toy and musically illiterate wantabees but as a music medium it sucks!
Alfred E Neuman of New York fame has just said that he doesn't worry because he bought his computer and all the software with lots of MP3s already on it from the Midnight Clearing house in Joes garage. He didn't have to pay much extra at for all the software he needed either, the guy just installed Office on it for 20 bucks more. What a deal, he says he doesn't worry about SCO either!
The way I see it is this, if your code is to make a business operating system based on a setup using open source or gnu licensed ware, then essentialy you are creating a flexable installer for your own business. If you close source your install script and any extentions that link programs without modifying the originals then you have created a business application. If you do modify open source ware, say something like Gnumeric or Abi Word then you will need to release those modified versions under their original OSS licence. If however your framework installer can modify the source./configure to use your framework of Gnu apps then recompile it to work only on your framework as a platform limited binary there is nothing wrong with that either. Part of effectively running OSS is being able to mod./config anyway. There is no reason why your business application linking framework cannot be considered a separate entity from the open and free software you are using. Afterall gnu software does not come with an installer (except make) and cross linking is a black art that is hard to do in an OSS environment. If your guis and system is easier to use and more stable than RedHat, Suse and Mandrake good for you! I might buy it.
I know all the everything should be free zealots will scream at this but look at Linus himself this is exactly what he advocates! Richard might faint and rant but someone has to wake up and put OSS into the real small business and desktop world.
If however you intend to also use closed source Windows software then you are screwed. Unless your in the business of creating a modified Windows plus OSS software business system framework, at which point you might produce something better than MS and quickly lose business to a clone from Microsoft itself!
Good thing the fired employees won't need to outsource a cheap saturday night special on the street after they get outsourced! Thanks to the NRA, and the Republicans. The reprocussions of out sourcing, corprorate greed, and despotic business practice is going to come back to haunt the entire corporate structure of the USA and Canada. Bin Laden need not do anything. Corporate greed and insane comsumerism will succeed where terrorism will fail. I personally wish good ethical American businesses people success. It is just the price and definition of success has become too high and distorted. Bull-shit to your post The corporate terrorism now going on in America is going make Bin Laden look like Yosemite Sam vs Bugs Bunny. I pray for America, I hope someone is listening!
Let me see/=\ dir=dir, mkdir=makedir, ifconfig=ipconfig......etc who is it that was cpn who too? cp=cp! If this is true then there is no such thing as Microsoft either! IBM was using unix and also originally hired Gates and Co. to put together an OS remember. Until Unix and the idea of an operating system for computers can be called public domain this is the shit that one can expect. That is why I would put my money on Tandy OS9, or that funky British firm or even OS2 instead........... atleast they tried to do things differently, OH shit what am I talking about you still need a C compiler, well I guess Intel is up the Walnut Creek as well and will have to pay their ransom to SCO. But I do not C what C has to do with it.
Dear (Denis) of Rithciedom art thou in heaven? I am in a C based DLL hell. BSD, MS and Linux are all sending daemons to do their bidding on my electron speaking Oracle, and I am locked in a shell.
HMMM I wonder if Morse could be used to store messages and use peanut sized segments of storage space. Would be neat if a teX like interpretor program could be developed to save files as 1s and zeros directly then use an interpretor to read and display the output. Problem is this new horse code could turn ham radio users into hackers. A new separator charater would need to be defined but the system would be fun if you could enter messages without a keyboard using simple usb mouse like based morse code key with a thumb switch activated separator. So you could have a little Morse with your mouse! What would be really great is if this idea could be then legally used on the shortwave ham band, with some software to do text messaging on cheap home computers. Someone is bound to have thought of this but, real time text messaging in Morse on the ham band sounds like fun. -.-., --.- etc? The spin off might be even smaller sized text files. Making huge harddrives good for things like uncompressed wave files. Then hard storage mediums like compact flash would be adequate for holding enormous amounts of simple text in new horse code files.
Actually its been known for a long time, but the software writers just have to put up with it, use DirectX or your midi interface will not work, or worse still it might until some user goes and loads the newest MS DirectX. So you play along with the DirectX game or your software will not work. The usual MS bullshit. DirectX controls have been a problem in music notation software for years. Maybe now someone will write a real piece of music notation software that doesn't use f'ing midi timing to set note placement. One of my main peeves with commercial notation software.
I have seen the possibility that midi could be used as a hack for years! In fact a little friend of mine has used this exploit to demonstrate a flaw in the whole concept of midi as a scripting control. He has written a replacement algorythm that directly generates wave at the processor level and then sends it to the sound card without the use of shitty DirectX. DirectX sucks for security and flexability always has and always will, because of its fork processes. I personaly do not care if my notation software can make sound, so I just have to put up with useless junk midi. Read my journal entry about more music #32862
Just about what you would expect from these two parties...... Could be that the law is not all that bad if both these parties are both against it. HAVE I GONE OUT OF MY MIND? this bill is an MSNBC dream come true, about as sensible as telco re-regulation or mandatory consolidation of ISPs. Although I never thought the NRA would ever go against a Microsoft sponsored bill.
"Since the FCC's vote June 2, criticism of the commission's decision had grown from the left and right of the conventional political spectrum. Both ends seemed to feel that media consolidation favored their political opponents. The American Civil Liberties Union denounced the FCC's move as a step toward "monopolization," while the National Rifle Association told its members that "only big media's voice will be heard.""
You are forgetting that when these patents are issue the company has software working that can do these operations. This must have happened before any other software did exactly the same operations. To fight this you need to demonstrate some other software existed prior that made; after confirmed payment for digital content, server side sends an after use destructable encripted software key to content lock.
What mouth full I think I will go brush my teeth something tastes like shit! But I think that about sums it up.
If Intertrust did approach MS in the early 1990's then you can bet your butt there was a non-disclosure involved or atleast some record of the meeting dates. Perhaps the relavent thing will be the patent dates and the date of any non-disclosures or meetings. Guys who are as smart as these guys at Intertrust certainly would not have approached MS with their ideas without a good lawyer involved. Though hiring the wrong lawyers in the first place could just as easily have been their mistake. Perhaps that is why Intel is open to linux about its arch, and has sort of dragged its heals on the MS trusted computing initiative.
'That is like sending the mouse out after the cat' to quote from a famous Sly Stallone movie. If Gates and Co. are stupid enough to steal after reading a non disclosure, or if they hired any disgruntled ex-employees from Intertrust, then MS deserves what it might get, sued into oblivion. No MS couldn't be that stupid.
There is also the question, have these guys actually created anything other than a framework for a patent? Do their designs actually work and have they been tested and proven. If they have prior to MS/Intels foray into trusted computing design then the shit is about to really hit the fan. Funny that a company like Sony is betting bigtime that it will.
I am talking about employement in business other than internet IT or government. My wife has to teach the MS interface and in house intranet interfaces to over 100 employees, she is in charge of user training. You have about as much chance of getting them to learn OSS office tools as teaching pigs to fly.
As there is an election coming here we would not want to rock the M$ institutionalised gravy boat too much. The business people might not grease the wheels of a polititian that squeaks and grunts about keeping IT spending down!
Designate an area around Seattle as an E-Dump. Dig lots of holes and bury any junk that will not run Linux because of Ms proprietary hardware. Then attach a new product recycling fee to all electronic communication devices and MS windows software itself. Wow the value of moded versions Xboxs might even go up! Canada can designate an area just north of the 49th about half a mile from the Peace Arch, and do the same thing.
If a function of the OS is to block password access from an obvious scripted intrusion attack. Say 15 strikes then access is blocked for a randomised time of say 3-5 minutes. How the hell could a crack script work? Can OS intrusions not be eliminated by a built in sniffer/blocker? Even if the script is running in an MS special style buffer overflow attack. You would think that military software would mandate the use of something like this. Certainly versions of Carnivor create phoney access as a honey pot to whack hackers, and any same admin is going to lockup a hard copy of their current pass word if it is good one.
Does this mean that chips and specs that are proprietary to a code base and then are made available to Linux coders are a violation of IP also? Don't forget the whole MS business foundation is based on what Compact did with tech code virgins, helped by Microsoft and IBM dirty people. If this is so then any pc can be considered to be illegally produced, and in reality IBM could sue the shit out of all of us. Is the concept of SMP patented. NO, is the idea of a digital word processor patented, I certainly hope not. Is the idea of a digital spread sheet patented NO because the inventors had the forsight to realise how important it was! Open source code is vital because great ideas will not get locked down, and those that are best will survive. The best coders and innovators will make money. Not like the situation now where any.NET code jockey can become protected from competition as long as they code for an MS based OS.
Just for your info this is a ./ about KDE will you Ksuckers go somewhere where someone kares...in short kut it out, kwit posting about kock roosters.
