    however, a cheaper solution is a regular satalite ISP (where the return channel is by modem).
    With most European SAT ISP's will have coverage in most of the Middle Eaest. (I've worked with some from Israel)
    One problen with VSAT/SAT is that the link latancy and BER are mutch higher then for a land link. (which might or might not bother your app depending on what you do)

    The UNL patch is in the -AC kernel and thus comes with RedHat, Mandrake and probably others as well.
    Just install the kernel-uml rpm which is included with the standard installation media.

    Java might be boring, but his assignments don't have to be.

    I'm jusst guessing, but from the use of the words "not up to it" it seems that his problem is that he was given tasks but not a clue on how to do them,
    hence the referral to a good java book.

    If he would have complained that java is boaring I might have agreed with you, allthogh usually I would attach the title `boaring` to a task not to the tool used to solve it.

    There is also the possibility thet he just has a bad teacher.
    There is no reasone why an intro course in jave should not be fun.

    Some teachers don't understand that an intro course has to be structured properly and not leave a lot for the students to fill in.
    In an advanced course you can skip alot and let the students work it out on their own, ( less work for the teacher...), but in an intro course it is not fair to do that.

    He should try reading a good Java book and see maybe Java is not so bad, only the teacher.

    The alarm system does not know you used a key to open the door, all it knows is that the door was opend.
    The reason only the ignition turns it off is that that makes the system simpler. (you just connect to the ingition wiring to get the signal.)
    BTW in some cars the door locks are simpler then the ignition lock.

    M$ has a big ad thingy in Israel about "copy software - go to jail".

    Which is a lie, since Israeli copyright law dos not hold for private, none-profit use.
    If you want protection from that, you have to sell your program as a product, not as a "creation".
    But then you can't sell it without a decent warenty ...

    So It appears that the ad strategy has backfired.

    If you were right, the tobacco companies would not need to waste time and mony (and risk legal action) by adding amonia to the cogaretts just to make them more addictive.
    Take suger for instance. People get used to eat somthing sweet to cheer up. But there is a measurable biological effect caused by blood glucose level.
    Would that be a psycological addiction or a physical one? No matter what you call it, if you will not enjoy smoking you will find somthing better to feed your psycological needs.

    There are outside confirmations that the battles against the Greek (Greek not Syrians) did in fact happen.
    About The candle lasting eight days, this is another matter.
    There is strong evidance that the religious leaders of later years moved the center of the story from the war victory to the re-opening of the Temple.
    This was done because they did not like the royal family, who were decendants of those who had led the revolt.

    The current Jewish calander is only about that old. (give or take a century).
    Before that the dates were decided apon witnesses of the new moon coming before the Sanhedrin. (the high court)
    So any exact date before that is meaningless, as there are no records for the length fo each historical month. (29 or 30 dayes - this is a moon month)

    In fact I have actually done performance tests of VMware (at work).
    It is slower then running native.
    You can greatly improve the speed of many applications by assigning a raw partition to your VM.
    (which allows the VM to directly access the disk without the need to copy data from the host OS.)
    The same goes for Networking.
    However, I have not tested graphics performance (and I think there might be a problem there)

    Try using VMWare.
    you can isolate the game in its virtual copy of windows and grant it only limited acces to the real Network/Drives/System.

    I agree.
    (Note however that Iranians are not Arabs, in fact they hate them)
    One thing to consider is that this will force Iran's hand.
    Up until now they were having their war done for them by Saddam's men.
    Iran can't allow the US to bring democracy to millions of Shi'ite Muslims. That will destabilize their regime very fast.
    They will have to resist the us more openly.
    And Iran will have nukes in a year...

    A pistol bullet is made of lead (=soft when thinking of a collision at about the speed of sound).

    All you need to stop it is to have it hit something hard that is x10 heavier.
    A power supply would do the job quite well.
    What you get then is a lot of shrapnel flying everywhere, but a thick layer of plastic will stop that.

    (I am a physicist and I have done lots of tests involving 9mm bullets)
    BTW a thick book will stop even an M-16 5.56 round.

    The real issue is compatability with Hebrew.
    SUN IBM and the Israeli Gov' spent real mony getting it into OO.
    There is no alternative because no other office supports Hebrew.

    you are right, but:
    1. you have to login to the machine to read /etc/passwd - a dictionary attack is much harder if you have to guess both the passowrd and the username.
    2. the standard root-kits just assume it's called root.

    Since M$ windows will not allow you to delete the guest account (or administrator) it is standerd practis,
    after disabeling guest to rename both accounts to somthing hard to guess.

    It might shock you but on my Linux boxes the superuser is not called 'root' either.
