Raising before the flop is an interesting concept to me. It seems that the better players do this methodically as well. Many times, in the lower limit games, I will raise before the flop if I've got a strong hand (e.g. AK-suited). This is to get those who are holding pocket 2s to fold, lest a 2 show up later.
What I'm trying to say is, when raising before the flop happens, you go off of how strong your starting hand is.
I believe that these two posts have more in common that they realize. The question is: What "America" are they talking about?
The latter is talking about the great country that was founded by a handful of pioneers hopeful for a new life away from the stagnant politics and unjust population control that they escaped from (then, England...taxation w/out representation, repression, etc, etc.) This is a great country, full of great people who have given their lives (in life and in death) to ensure our prosperity and enrichment as a people.
The former references the single largest threat to the latter: the government itself. The former is apalled by the erosion of the one virtue that this country is founded on: Freedom. As the song goes "I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free," Where is the pride of America when the Freedom is gone? When U.S. Citizens can be labelled "Enemy Combatants" and lose all constitutional rights, where is the pride in that?
Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely proud to be an American. But, when America no longer stands for what it was founded on, then is it truly America any longer?
I'm not sure if you're an actual U.S. Citizen or not, but either way, it seems you've forgotten that the U.S. is a representative democracy.
This means that most of the decisions are not made by the people, they're made on behalf of us by our representatives. And for that, there is a timeless quote by William Blake: "Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts, absolutely."
If this quote is not disputed, that means virtually anyone with power who is not directly accountable (i.e. most politicians) will abuse the power they enjoy and bend it to their personal whims.
What comes of it is that the broken government which now serves itself takes more of us, the people that it should be serving. One morsel at a time, all the while spending our money to reduce our freedoms.
Here's my plan: Amass a small fortune, then move to some small country that no one knows about and live like a king.
for every idiot that gets a cert, there are four idiots who didn't bother.
True, but there are also others who didn't bother. In fact, I'm one of them. I've been working in the industry since '95 and I've only been unemployed for a cumulative 4 months since '95 (2 months twice). I've never taken a pay cut. I believe that speaks for something. And I have absolutely no certifications, no Masters, no BS even, just cold, hard experience.
I played as soon as I was 18.

And for those who think D&D is "social suicide," only one in the group is a social outcast. The rest are prison correction officers, and then me (a programmer.)
How do you think unionizing would affect offshoring? Would it be more appealing for companies to ship jobs offshore if they thought they would have more trouble in country b/c of unions?
I'm not saying I'm all for unions, but placed well, they can be effective. Using your example above, a union could help to control the emount of offshoring by coordinating actions against "too much offshoring:"
1. Use "offshoring percentage" in negotiations with employers.
2. Require a certain amount of salary funds to go to union engineers.
3. In drastic cases, strike until companies bring a certain amount of jobs back to the U.S.
Of course, for this to work, the union should already have a strong foothold (which, of course doesn't exist now.)
The way to extract that information back from within the event horizon is quite simple: run time backwards.
This proves nothing! It's not extracting anything, it's only undoing what was done! It doesn't tell if the information survived the event horizon because it never went into it! If you run time backwards, then it hasn't happened yet and you're back where you started! Literally!

The Roving GPS can still be used as a normal GPS unit, no?
Precise measurements are more important when running in circles (close proximity, lots of direction change.) However, in larger patterns (field riding,) the GPS unit would have more space to average over.
Besides, precise, accurate measurements are more important during a race than when training.
Okay, I'll admit. I bit, I checked the link and I check the site's links. I still did not find what I was looking for and have one blazing question:
Who sold the camp?
In order for someone to buy, someone else has to be willing to sell. The purchaser cannot be the only one at fault. Apparently, the seller was largely at fault for not recognizing the importance of the camp site and "selling out."
Do you think that I will [...] figure out how the program works
No, but someone else will. If 20 different people verify that the patch is good, then will you believe?
Suppose MS came out with a 3 meg "patch" to Linux claiming to fix all the bugs in the kernal programmed in LISP (or some other language you have zero clue about) [...] Would you sit down, learn a new language and go through the huge listing of source code?
Probably not, but someone knows LISP and will verify the patch, probably convert it all to C and it would be included in the next kernel. We Open Source developers aren't picky about who writes the code, as long as it works.
Looks to me like ducted fans are the way to go. More efficient, totally enclosed. In fact, I'm planning on prototyping a small df rc aircraft next year.
Suffice it to say, some of the best advice is:
Don't bet it if you can't afford to lose it.
