Up until this year, I regarded virtualization asjust another buzzword, and a cheap and easy way to avoid having to think through and develop good IT policies and get good admins and other support people.
After having worked with someone who really knew their stuff as far as virtualization was concerned, I now realize that I was wrong, and that virtualization is a powerful and very useful tool to have in one's arsenal.
So, how does this protect joe dumbass from giving up his information voluntarily? If I need a smartcard to verify that it's me who is using the machine, then how does this prevent me from clicking through a phishing attempt and giving over my authority which has already been granted?. Am i to understand that none of us have root-level access to our own machines? Forget that. If anything, centrally issued smartcards would simply allow companies who might otherwise be on the hook for bad behavior to simply push it off on users.
And sure, like I really want a Federally issued smartcard. Do I have any reason to suspect that it won't be used by the feds for all the wrong reasons?
That is just the worst idea I have heard as a solution to this problem I have *ever* heard.
Dude, the Secret Service is part of the Treasury Dept, so she wouldn't be outing a CIA member. Nonetheless, I bet that Bush would declare executive privilege, however, which means she would be SOL in terms of getting justice for the crime committed against her.
But I thought that the Republicans were going to restore honor and dignity to the White House, and that Republicans were holding themselves out as the examples of clean, good government. I thought that these hale and hearty good christian men and women were of the tough moral fiber that makes them resistant to the forces of corruption that infect the weak, comyanist Democrat party.
The Iranians also have some even better Russian made anti-ship missiles. They're called 'Sunburns' and if they only have two, that is something to worry about.
They also wouldn't have to sink the Nimitz, the sight of it limping back to port would probably be enough to seal the fate of the vulcans.
Actually, the standard practice is for all the U.S. Attorneys to tender their resignations when a new administration takes office. Usually, most of the resignations are accepted, because the new administration will generally be wanting to implement a new agenda. The president does not personally pink-slip all the U.S. Attorneys.
Most U.S. Attorneys serve the entire time a president is in office, but not always.
Except that she was involved with nuclear non-proliferation.
I know who is happy about that. The folks who think attacking Iran is a good idea, that's who. Part of the whole rationale offered about why we needed to get Saddam was that we didn't really know how far along he was in reconstituting his nuclear weapons programs, and so we could not take any chances.
Now, with Brewster Jennings out of the way, there won't be anyone to know what Iran has and doesn't have, thus necessitating another pre-emptive war, complete with jubilant Persians on the streets of Teheran cheering the re-ascendance of the peacock throne.
Actually, if you look at the White House web site, you will see that Rove is actually in charge of domestic policy. He was named in charge of Katrina rebuilding after the FEMA embarrassment ( too lazy to Google it? I am! ), and usually sits in on all cabinet meetings.
Yeah, just a campaign manager.
If it's all so innocuous, with nothing to worry about, then why go out of one's way to delete all these emails?
Remember how the tires on all vans the Republicans in some county had rented to take people to the polls were slashed the night before the election?
No. I call bullshit on this because:
In what fabled predominantly Republican district is it even a necessity to have vans take people to the polls? Don't say some retirement community, because the polling places are usually next to the dining hall. Wouldn't they just all pile into their Hummers and Esacalades? Since when do Republicans carpool, anyway? Why do that? There's no reason to conserve gasoline!
It's the night before the election. All the vans' tires have been slashed. Evidently, Big O tires is closed on Tuesdays.
Yeah, cause a place like the Ohio Supercomputing Institute probably couldn't handle the increased traffic. That job gets subcontracted out to a company with beefy Republican ties at what I'm sure is probably a Halliburton-esque markup.
Yeah, we really have to break the stranglehold the environmental movement has on the Bush administration.
I know what you mean, though. I hate it when those Earth First! people demand to see my papers, I even helped build Greenpeace's vast network of gulags and re-education centers! Sheesh.
The Secretary's web site has been, is now, and probably will remain, hosted at the Ohio Supercomputing Institute. This is not an issue about contracting to a company with political views of any kind. This is about web site traffic being redirected to domains owned by the Republican party during a time when people were looking to Ohio for important election results.
There may be a perfectly innocuous reason for this. Perhaps the content on the Republican servers was more up-to-date, and so content was temporarily redirected there, or perhaps they had staffers on hand to update content while the guys at the OSI were at home.
Smartech has no control over this, they are the provider, but there were people in the Ohio Sec. of State's office who have some explaining to do, as this is really not a cool thing to do from IT management standpoint. Also, two election officials ( Republicans ), have been convicted of fraud already as it relates to the 2004 elections.
So while this proves nothing, there is a wide constellation of issues, and where there's smoke, there's fire.
You're very right. It's not simply about how people in the US are uninformed or apathetic. They are also actively being deceived and shielded from events and culture outside of the US, and it's justified by those marketing geniuses because their conventional wisdom dictates that people here "just aren't interested in that stuff".
Well, considering that you won't be shown any of that other stuff, how are people supposed to develop an interest outside of this country? It becomes a buried shovel.
The other factor is cost. The foreign correspondent is becoming an endangered species, and it's way easier to cover attractive blondes who go missing in Aruba than things that directly impact the broader population.
The adage that no one ever went broke underestimating the American public is only partly true, because somewhere along the line, someone figured out that is was more cost-effective to distract people with cheap and easy. If people want salacious gossipy stuff, shady government contracts are pretty nifty.

I go
you go
He, she or it goes
we go
you all go
they go
You picked a crummy example from English, since 3rd person singular is the only variant for the present tense.
Look! They're heading for that small moon!
That's no moon. It's a space station...
That is the dumbest thing I have heard in a while...
Dude, the Secret Service is part of the Treasury Dept, so she wouldn't be outing a CIA member. Nonetheless, I bet that Bush would declare executive privilege, however, which means she would be SOL in terms of getting justice for the crime committed against her.
Last I heard, they were calling it an "unplanned sexual event"...
No, seriously.
I'd bet 99% on corruption via overly fat contracts, and 1% on vote manipulation.
The Iranians also have some even better Russian made anti-ship missiles. They're called 'Sunburns' and if they only have two, that is something to worry about.

No one is saying this a good thing.

With respect to Whitewater, not only was that before Clinton became president, but the Clintons *lost* money on the investment.

Hey, in 2000 they all talked about how this was going to be "the CEO President", and now the "adults" were in charge.
Well, this company has a shitty IT department, and the board ( us ) should have gotten a rope for the CEO ages ago.
Remember how the tires on all vans the Republicans in some county had rented to take people to the polls were slashed the night before the election?

German is derived from English. What's your point?
registerting untold thousands of bogus Democrat voters
And naturally, every single one of the bogus 'Democrat' people show up to vote, which is why Republicans never win elections.
And all those children registered to vote showed up and voted?
Yeah, we really have to break the stranglehold the environmental movement has on the Bush administration.
I know what you mean, though. I hate it when those Earth First! people demand to see my papers, I even helped build Greenpeace's vast network of gulags and re-education centers! Sheesh.
I think you should read the story again.

I think people are being actively deceived.
I bet they have several regional product managers who don't even know each other, let alone talk to each other....
Crap. I forgot octopi, which are probably the most intelligent invertebrates on earth.
