Great Point. Retail does not put their generic crap behind glass counters, in fact only a small percentage of goods is pilfered from retail outlets, even though to do so is quite easy. The reason is most people are honest. DRM assumes guilty before innocent. If the Media Execs had half a brain, they would replicate the AllofMP3 service and make a killing on volume.
What does any of that have to do with Clinton. These was no implication that he did anything.

Open letter to President Clinton on Iraq
On January 16, 1998, following perceived Iraqi unwillingness to co-operate with UN weapons inspections, members of the PNAC, including Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, and Robert Zoellick drafted an open letter to President Bill Clinton, posted on its website, urging President Clinton to remove Saddam Hussein from power using U.S. diplomatic, political and military power.
The PNACers used a hack I think you brief quip needs expanding. PNAC or Project for the New American Century, proposed originally to Clinton a new way forward for the USA, including; huge expansion of military forces, preemptive intervention to peoples & countries hostile to it and preserving an international order in the interests of the USA. Signatories to this include Cheney, Lewis "scooter" Libby, Jeb Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz... pretty impressive and currently the core of the 'neo conservitave' bush Government.
Iraq sitting on the worlds second largest oil reserves, challenged Americas future, as the USA needs to 1. To keep oil priced in US dollars to support it fiat nature, 2. Keep reliable supplies of oil. Saddam, who was originally an asset of the CIA (and attempted under guide of CIA to assassinate Qasim) was to be their 'puppet' leader in IRAQ, but Saddam was a naughty boy. Thus Bush snr went in to teach him a lesson. (You wonder why they didn't take him out back then) The lesson, was you will be like Saudi Arabia. But Saddam was not playing ball, so Bush Jnr needed a reason to go back, but how could they convince the American people, who really don't have an imperialist bent. They needed new 'pearl harbor'. 9-11 was that new pearl harbour. 9-11 truthers believe the neocons orchestrated this event (which I still have not made up my mind on), but regardless there was still no strong tie to IRAQ, but there was to Afghanistan, as they were harbouring Osama. Afghanistan was anther target of the neocons, because the Taliban would not agree to protect a UNOCALs proposed oil & gas pipeline. Now there are US bases conveniently placed along the path of the pipeline. As the previous poster had mentioned, it took a little longer to manufacture evidence and 'prepare' the American people for an illegal incursion into IRAQ. I think most Americans would be ashamed of the US govt increasing fascist world dominating behaviour, but there does not seem be a groundswell of discontent that would action any sort of uprising. Not that the US people could uprise now because of the clamp on your civil liberties post 9-11. What interesting times we live in.
While Slashdot readers may not be as well informed as they like to think they are, I don't think this is an audience where you can bluff your way through with the demolition techno-babble. So which was the babble bit? This is the problem I keep seeing. I want to see sensible technical discussion, not these glib comments that do nothing for the debate.
A steel/concrete building has never collapsed from fire. A horizontal bridge design is no comparison to a vertical skyscraper. Bridges like the one you have shown are tension loaded spans sitting on huge bearings to allow contraction and expansion. I notice the structure underneath the truck suffered little damage. Why didn't it pancake? See they are silly arguments unless you use engineering process and experiment to determine cause an effect.
The buildings were originally designed to take impact from a boeing 707. The damage should have caused an asymmetric collapse. The core columns were truly massive, and engineers have claimed the collapse should not have proceeded to ground floors because of the energy required to obliterate this massive steel core. Molten metal was found for weeks afterwards in the basement, by numerous witnesses, and NIST just dismisses the witness claims.
as for WTC7. It is not possible to wire a 47 storey building for demo in 8 hours, and the NIST report would have mentioned it, so the theory of FDNY wiring the building is not plausible.
I'm actually quite fascinated about the 911 conflicts, and I'm not sure why you thought 'it wasn't worth my time'
There are many conflicts in the story, and no one from the government is giving convincing answers. Popular Mechanics attempts at debunking 911 alternative conspiracies have been meet by an extraordinary rebuttal by David Ray Griffins Debunking 9/11 debunking.
What is wrong with trying to put scientific method to 911? For example, there are vidoes showing molten metal pouring out of a WTC building before its collapse. Since jet fuel cannot melt steel what could cause it? So some scientists (Steven Jones) decided to use method. Someone suggested it could be aluminium from the aircraft frame. So they melted Al, and poured it out, but it just looked silvery. Then they mixed in wood chips, carpet and other organic matter that may be found in an office. The organic matter just floated on top, and when poured out it just looked silvery, not 'sparky' like iron. Then they thought what could make molten iron? So they tried various thermite reactions and that gave results strikingly similar to that seen on videos. They then started analysing wtc dust and found many iron micro spheres, and under X-EDS found the spheres had strong peaks for Aluminium, Iron and Sulfer, again pointing towards use of thermite. you can read more here http://www.journalof911studies.com/volume/200704/J onesWTC911SciMethod.pdf There are many things about 911 that still do not make sense, especially the symmetrical near free-fall collapse of WTC7.
Please don't be mislead by the many straw man attacks against 911 truth researchers. Its a classic tactic to attempt to put up some wacko theory like 'no planes', destroy that theory, and say 'see, they are all wacko'.

I agree with Kevin, that the masses seem opiated by the mass media. Scratch the surface of the internet though and discontent with the US govt is deafening, but the people seem impotent to do anything about it. Even 95% of/. seem to know the USA is becoming a fascist country, but again the people seem hypnotised... or apathetic. I suppose if you have food in your belly, a roof over your head, and TV, you are not terribly motivated to change the status quo.
It seems more and more likely 9/11 was a false flag operation to start middle east incursions to ultimately prop up the fiat US dollar by keeping oil priced in USD. I wonder how it will end....
Being a Boss as well, thats exactly what our culture looks for. Honesty, but without emotional baggage. A stuffup is a stuffup, learn and move on.

While I respect you low UID, engineers do not take into account the type of solder to be used (for most products), this is something in practice manufacturers do (except in this transition period of leaded to lead free which requires higher processing temperatures). A manufacturer isn't about to empty out the solder bath of his wave soldering machine to tweak the silver content unless you have a dedicated line to the product.
The biggest problem to hit the industry is ROHS (requiring among other things lead free solder) and tin whisker growth. Nobody in the industry fully understands why yet, but what happens is fine micron size whiskers start randomly growing out of plated legs of components and can grow long enough to make short circuits. It is something to do with surface tension and extrusion, but it still has people puzzled.
So if the problem was tin whiskers, then I disagree its all Apples fault.
Well its not surprising to see the media (although you think NPR of networks would run it) would not run the story. The media has been 'controlled' for decades in most western countries.
Maybe you should thank Cheney and Co. USA invaded IRAQ to keep the fiat US dollar from tanking. By keeping oil priced in USD, they can effectively print as much money as they like. As soon as IRAN started selling oil in euros, I thought, hello, lets see what fear stories we can fabricate about IRAN now.
Unfortunately, I think the long term consequence for the USA is not great. fascism anyone? Its almost like I'm seeing the USA destroyed by your political & capitalist machinery. Very sad for such a great country...
With Vista, there is no compelling useful feature for users Funny you say that. I've put Vista on our plasma TV for its media center, and its a bit flaky but usable. Then at a party at our place, looking at our TV, someone asks why they should get Vista... and I had to really think... I said it looks pretty.... and it seems to find drivers by itself off the net... the explorer shell is a bit better for media.. but nothing really compelling.
but its a moot point.. vista will come pre loaded, business will eventually workout how to make it work in their systems, and a year from now 90% of new PC's will be vista. (although I predict much less people will upgrade as they did with 98SE to XP)
For most business, the cost of office is a non event compared to. 1- The need to have outlook anyway (in most cases). 2- Historically OO would not 100% convert ms word files correctly. (not sure if that is still the case) 3- Running their business The last one is very important, because running business is hard work. Running MS office barely appears on the radar compared to a zillion things like
how many sales I have I made
why is that product late
have I ticked my corporate governance boxes today
have I insured this and that
Office in the mind of business people is a commodity like a car, an office desk, or a computer. They really don't care that much.
As a pilot (25 years and counting), I've not had much luck with my cell phone(Verizon) working above 10,000 feet. The reason is more likely the base station radiation pattern. Cell phone base station antennae are very 'trick'. They are phased arrays with tightly controlled radiation patterns that are very flat (think like a saucer). Many are also electronically steerable to help improve signal strength (gain actually) in certain areas.
The difference between intelligence and wisdom is this: wise people are people who know how to let go. They can let go of plans or ideas and see things in a fresh and objective light. Intelligence is a double edge sword. Sometimes it helps people see new possibilities, other times it helps them hold on to what they want to believe is true. I have no Mod points, so I'll let you know; one of the best comments ever on/.!
Just because a model cannot predict short-term behavior on a small scale accurately doesn't mean it can't predict long-term behavior on a large scale very well true, and I was thinking that as I posted, but there still seems too much 'shenanigans' going on with misuse of data. Guess we will find out in 20 years.
Why post AC? I agree Larouche is a bit of a nut, and has been crying wolf over the economy for way too long, but I do agree with a few things he says. eg. The derivative debt bubble will bite the world big time. USA offshoring all of its jobs, combined with huge deficits will cause a decrease in your standard of living. Cheney should be impeached.
I think the parent is on the right track. Global Warming has become religious even to the scientists involved. If you are staking your reputation on previous claims of GW, then you will start filtering your data gathering with a 'specific general outcome' in mind, even if subconscious. Models can't even get cloud formation close to correct yet. They can't even predict the weather beyond a couple of days. Thus I think our understanding is still way too immature to be jumping to conclusions on either side, and making huge economic decisions of carbon trading etc.
Just watched 'Man Of The Year' with Robyn Williams. (on a plane) Although it was average, it bought up two very salient points that never seem to get addressed. 1. Campaign advertising is funded by lobbyists (read big business), who in turn will want their pound of flesh. 2. A stinging rebuke of e.voting. Although portrayed very simplistically in the movie, I think it got the point across that if your vote is a bit in a database, where is the traceability; thus its open to fraud.
The most interesting quote of the movie, from the 'diebold like' ceo. It only the 'illusion' of democracy that counts.
