    An ISP should be given common carrier rights.
    For example, if you order illegal items through the postal service, (lets say pirated DVD's), then there is no way your postal service will be cut off. Its up to either the Police, or copyright holder to form a case against you. The ISP is merely the conduit, not an interested party.

    it's hardware compatibility and software availability Absolutely. I need to be able to run my windows only CAD packages, like Altium, database systems like M1, legacy Access 97 based databases. I also need to connect to a domain server, access label printers, scanners, colour printers which is all pretty painless in the Windows world. Last time I tried running linux (on a proliant server), it kernal paniced when ever the PS2 keyboard was removed! Look, I don't think linux on the desktop is for lack of trying, its just the 1000lb gorilla has the advantage of well, a 1000lb gorilla.

    1) I will repeal corporate personhood. Bad Idea. Running a business is hard work, and 99% of business people I know are more honest than your average Joe. The whole point LTD or LLC is to encourage individuals to take calculated risks without putting at risk their entire personal wealth. Without LLC, there would be a lot less business & less employment.
    If you have spent 20years building up a business, then one crappy event destroys it all, including your home, why would people bother with the risk? Note there are still dire consequences for company directors that commit criminal acts.

    What really annoys me is I cancelled an Amex card over a year ago, and they still accept automatic debit charges.
    I got a statement only yesterday from an ISP I forgot to change my card with. I rang Amex and said, please reject the charge, but they outright refused saying even though the card was cancelled, my 'contract' of automatic direct debit takes precedence.

    Unfortunately, I don't think anything will change in Joe Average world.
    It's much like skinny beautiful models and the negative influence they have on the self image of girls. Most people see its a problem but the industry will only change if someone legislated against it; as they will all say if I'm the first to change, I loose sales and go out of business.

    All modern poverty is caused by either poor leadership, or western countries (USA/UK/France) creating poor leadership through manipulation. (eg Sadaam came to power through the CIA).
    The manipulation can take the forms of military support for opposition parties they want in power, direct threats (eg in my left hand is $20m, in my right hand is random deaths in you entire family) to existing leaders to implement impoverishing policies, or economic punishment through grossly unfair trade policies.
    Food AID does very little for long term benefits. I support AID in the form of micro business (like opportunity international) that teach the community to expand their economy.
    A society can only function well when governed well.

    The OLPC could be great for second world countries (which is where I think it is intended anyway).

    From personal, scientifically-measurable experience, I can tell you that gaining and losing weight isn't a matter of 'good calories' or 'bad calories'. What, from your sample size of 1.
    I can eat as much as I like, do no exercise, and I put on no weight. I've always been thin, and diet and exercise have no very little bearing on my weight. The only way I was able to put on weight was doing a weights program combined with masses of food. My wife on the other hand, has always exercised, has a personal trainer, eats the same or less than me, but is over weight (but not obese). I think the medical understanding in this area is still infantile.

    You wouldn't even need a capacitor in the sense of storage.

    You would just need an RF diode coupled to the video input to be rectified and bias on the gate of a MOSFET that inturn drives a relay to connect mains power to the switchmode PSU.

    The crazy thing is, what took me 10 seconds to design in my head will probably be patented, and used to extort millions!!

    America has only just started on the road to true fascism. First there will be the economic crash, and the enusing chaos and poverty.
    Thats been in the works since the 60's when the USA went off the Gold standard and became a fiat currency.
    You embraced globalisation, and your manufacturing has disapeared.
    Notice whats happening to your infrastructure, your dollar, your mortgages.
    Terrorism is the biggest con yet. USA does not have a terrorism problem. 9-11 was not done by Arabs with stanley knives.
    9-11 was the excuse to take away your freedom.

    Dynamic Phil is right, go make some noise.... but you know what.... it won't happen. While the general populace has food in their bellies and their mind numbing TV, nothing will change.

    Reminds of a problem I never solved using ntbackup on windows server 2003.
    Because ntbackup uses one large file, and a file copy uses 2k (somtimes 4k) of paged kernel memory per 1Meg when copying a file (In our case another SATA HDD), and Kernel memory seems limited, our backup would always fail at around 50-60GB. The only solution we found was to create multiple smaller backups of around 30GB.

    One thing about XP installs that drives me nuts is no native SATA HDD support.
    Lets hope they have put common SATA chip set support, or at least native USB drivers to be able to load them without the need to try and dig up a floppy disk or frig around with slipsteaming.

    Yes, but on the flip side, it costs a lot of $$$ to develop new technology and those developers need a return on both the direct capital costs and risk.
    Without the patent system, it would cause many companies to go secret squire and much technology would die with the inventor or company. Patents are meant to be a govt sanctioned protection protect the research capital in order to release that information into the general populace to better mankind.
    I agree the system is out of balance, but the answer is not scrapping the patent system.

    "Fascist" is such a poorly defined word Yes, but the OP confined its meaning well when he said

    Saying that "The State" is right no matter what and inferring Bush and Co are on a supress all oposition below the threshold of reaction from the general populace. It will be interesting if they manage to rig the coming election so they can continue their PNAC agenda. I also find it interesting that anyone with a clue thinks the currrent regime is off the rails, but there seems to be no major backlash?? Why is this so? Is the media really that controlled, is it apathy, or is really not a problem, and internet chat is just amplifying not much?

    Read 'Debunking 911 Debunking' by David Griffin. By the end of the book you should be about 99% sure it was an inside job.

    eg. Phone calls made at 40kft.
    The Pentagon for example.
    The plane was heading direct for the wedge that had the top brass, but instead overflew, did 330deg 6000ft+ descent turn (that 767 pilots have called extremely difficult and by a pilot refused cesna hire) and flew in ground effect for several hundred metres and impacted the most reinforced lightly populated part of the building. The NTSB released black box data showed the plane on a different flight path. Open your eyes!

    It's funny how people claim that 'things are so different after 9/11, we can't afford all these civil rights.'

    I suggest you read David Ray Griffins excellent book "Debunking 911 Debunking".

    He provides a huge amount of logical rebuttal to the official Goverment conspiracy theory, making popular mechanics amongst others look like shills for the Bush government. The conclusion is 911 was bush & co arranged as a pretext to invade two countries (Afgahnistan after the Taliban refused to provide protection for the UNOCAL pipeline) and Iraq (After Saddaam, (who btw the CIA employed to assisinate Qasim the president of IRAQ in 1959) didn't learn his lesson and started selling oil in Euros threatening the $US fiat dominance. It has also been used to erode many rights of US citizens, where it seems you are heading toward capalistic fascism.

The ONLY way for e-voting to work is to have the machine spit out a paper ballot the user can check before placing in the ballot box for MANUAL counting, OR (but not preferably) manual verification of an electronic total.

    I thought when this 'Junk DNA' was mentioned many years ago that given time, that opinion will be reversed.
    Thus there was an advantage to ID biologist who would have the opinion, 'cells are an incredible biological computer with beautiful design, this is great fun reverse engineering it all, and there won't be Junk DNA because that goes against God creating life, so lets keep looking for its purpose'
