Those guys used the wrong term. When I hear dangling pointers, I often think structs that have pointers to other stuff and the struct has been freed before its pointers are freed. What these people say is dangling pointers are merely pointers to stuff that's been freed but the references have not been reset to NULL. Resetting them to NULL is basic C-programming 101.
I used to hate Flash video until YouTube, Google, and all the popular sites implemented a volume control. There are still sites that don't have a control and audio comes through at full blast, regardless of what my Sound control panel is set at. How lame is that?
No. Cingular was pretty sucky. When they bought AT&T Wireless, they refused to convert/unlock phones tied to AT&T so they would work on Cingular. They would mess up lots of times whenever plans would need to be converted from ATTW to Cingular.
This is one of the things that I don't like about Windows. Same thing will happen if you copy a large file (say 1+GB) and you open a Windows Explorer window and attempt to navigate to the source or target of whatever is being copied. Lots of I/O blocks. There was a post here that talked about Vista having a better I/O subsystem. Perhaps if those who use Vista regularly can chime in and let us know if it solves these issues.
I would disagree. OS X is sorely lacking uninstall functionality for those that have an installer. You can get what has been installed in the system receipts directory but it's a hassle and not totally foolproof. Not saying Windows's uninstallation process is foolproof either but it is there after some clicks.
Cheap definitely is relative. When you compare what kinds of service is available in the U.S. compared to a country like Japan, broadband in the U.S. is not cheap.
The counter argument to this line of reasoning is "why can't a city like New York City have fast and cheap broadband because of its high population density?"
Thanks for the explanation. When I hear The Big Bang, I often have images of a very large cosmic event that spans an extremely large area that's filled with extremely high heat and energy. I didn't think about the size of the universe today, that heat and energy has spread out quite thin into the cosmic microwave background radiation.
Assuming the universe becomes static and we stay alive until light from the Big Bang reach us, what will we see? Will space become very bright all around? Naturally, if the universe continues to expand faster than light, we may never see the initial light from the Big Bang.
Does anyone know how GAIM 1.5's auto-away works? It doesn't look like it works. I use Jabber and if I manually set my status to away, it creates an away dialog where I can click "I'm back." But if I just let my session idle, the dialog box showed up say maybe 2 or 3 times (I'm also concurrently connected to an AIM and Yahoo account). And I've never seen any documentation (too lazy to look at code) that describes the difference between Idle Time Reporting: Gaim usage vs. Windows usage. But selecting either one doesn't seem to help. Auto-away is checked.

The internet has allowed videos/shows to be distributed more easily that can embarrass or harm those in control in the U.S. Just do a search for a show that was to be shown on the Discovery Channel named "Conspiracy of Silence" for instance.
I read the article as follows: if someone were to win a Fields Medal, their work is considered original. So this guy won the medal; he at least did something original in the past. He is of Chinese ancestry--a Chinese did something original.
What Yau did, according to the article, is recently have disciples "fine-tune" or clarify some proofs that have been accepted as complete and claim those derivatives as original works. Decisions will ultimately come from the mathematics community, but my opinion is these clarifications are not original works unless there is a gross error in the original proof.
I'm wondering why this guy is bringing up the race/prejudice card. Muddy the waters a bit?
The article goes into details. Basically, in corporate America, saw companies want to make money but want to avoid having the responsibility of becoming liable for accidents. Putting this device in saws will create this "burden" for them.
Actually, there is more noise on Digg discussions and it forces you to read the linked articles there, unlike lots of instances where people on Slashdot take this site's submitter's point of view as gospel and reply to that.
I think that tech support guy was just vomiting BS. Normally lots of ISPs just say something like no limit but doesn't say what is no limit and people find out that the limit refers to connect time and not download time.
That's a good workaround but not as flexible as Google or some other sites that will bring back searches from multiple languages. No active ask.cn yet.

I saw this story http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=13 290 dated in 2003 so I checked them out just now. http://www.ntt-east.co.jp/product_e/05/index.html. "Basic" is I suppose an individual at US$90/month. Most people in Japan live in a "Hyper Family Type" and they'll be charged US$46/month, but they could probably get an individual line. These are 100mbps maximum connections. Here are prices from NTT West, going into 40+Mbps. http://www.ntt-west.co.jp/service_guide/5great/gre at03.html

But I would not want to do this manually. I wish to have Gaim's auto-away feature do this at 30 minutes of "idle" time.

No luck? I am based in the U.S. though.

Since the wronged party is also rich and powerful, I can take a guess that she will receive much more than a slap on the wrist.

I think the other factor that these companies don't like this device is they didn't patent it in the first place.

I gather you're referring to what Mark Twain wrote in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court?
MS may do what they do best: buy MoTeC.

Now we know what a bunch of money-brubbing individuals the ARS and Miro's family are.
I would think that is a feature. Hell, under XP I turn off the XP theme.

Unlimited in this case refers to connect time, not amount transferred.
