also, you say that the problem "...only shows up when using OS X..."
Somehow reminds me of the issues many people had with RAM that wasn't up to spec with some Macs when OS X came out. For some reason the RAM wouldn't cause problems under OS 9, but OS X would become extremely unstable if you used RAM below spec.
So now you're telling me that also was a software issue?
Once the install was done, my screensaver had kicked in and somehow I was stuck with a black screen and no way to force quit it (even Ambrosia's "Escape Pod" utility didn't do the trick), so I had to do a force reboot.
After that I ran fsck, removed the receipt for 10.2.8 and to be on the safe side installed it once again, this time with no problems.
Wrong. That means you can have an unlimited number of people connecting via AFP.
The 10 user license only restricts the number of people that can simultaneously connect via AFP, there are no restrictions on the number of users created or the number of users simultaneously connecting via SAMBA, FTP or NFS.
Open up a G4 case, what do you see? A passive heat sink, some fans, yep, that's the whole cooling.
Now go to the next best 1 GHz P4, open the box. What do you see? Hey, they've put a vacuum cleaner in there and it sucks directly on the CPU! Active monster cooling without which the P4 would come to an immediate nuclear meltdown. That's actually why the codename of the P4 during developement was "Chernobyl" (OK, I made that one up, I admit;-)

Surely the Open Source Darwin Streaming Server is of no interest to anyone but Mac users. Also Open Directory, Rendezvous and the Apple CDSA framework for encrypting etc. is completely useless.
Thanks for telling me I wouldn't have noticed that.
For example I can't input Japanese at all right now. For that I'd need to run yet another Japanese input method within X11. Tried it, failed (maybe my fault, but then again, why couldn't X11 just use the input from OS X's native Japanese input method "Kotoeri"?)
Also opening Word documents that use Japanese displays gibberish most of the time, even when all the fonts and multi-lingual settings are done properly.
Cut and paste in and out of X11 doesn't work most of the time. OS X Services are not supported etc.
After all it ends up being a waste of time. So, I'll just get ThinkFree Office or MarinerWrite/MarinerCalc those do work much better.
I was playing with an eMac, when I went to BicCamera in Shinjuku/Tokyo, hoping I could get my hands on a 17" PowerBook early this year. Have there been any changes to eMacs since then? (I don't think so, but I might be wrong).
I don't understand what is fine with any monitor that doesn't give me a refresh rate above 75Hz for usable resolutions. I really get a headache at that low a frequency.
The eMac monitor is abysmally crappy (LG makes them). It's about the worst monitor that ever got out of Apple. If you run it at anything more than 1024x768 you have to live with 75Hz refresh rate, making your eyes bleed after about 2 minutes.
The screen is the one reason why I cannot recommend the eMac to anyone. Everyone I know who bought an eMac ended up feeling they've got screwed because of the monitor, it's so bad.
Oh, cool then let's just litter the forests and pollute the environment, because it's CHEAPER!
You, sir, are a fucking moron.
Well, I guess that's better than bombing a different nation every year just for the fun of it.

I've read somwhere that this seems to be a problem with the motherboard that only shows up when using OS X on a Lombard with two RAM modules.
I'm afraid this is a hardware issue and can't be easily resolved.

My 17 PowerBook is fine so far (knocks on wood).
Your mouse has only one ball? Did you cut off the other one?
Yes that's weird. Everyone knows Japanese have yellow hands... err, your point?
For all the glory and coolness of NeXT, but I doubt any Mom and Dad could really use it that easily...
I think that point goes to Mac OS X.
So has Bill Gates. Your point?

The new Power Mac G5 processor does not support pseudo little-endian mode.
This is a non-trivial problem.
It is, because the G5 DOES support pseudo little-endian mode. It must be a stupid fuck-up on MS's side (as if that'd suprise anyone).
>By the way, Xeon beat out G5 handily when Xeon was running icc compiled code and G5 was running gcc compiled code.
We'll play that game again with xlc soon. Remember, the one who laughs last, laughs best.
How a bout Titan, ok it's made out of Aluminium...
I got it:
The Aluminati Cluster
And I bet the first they're going to compute would be the question to "42".

Got it?
No, because it's only got 64bits, whereas my Internet has 12Mbits, so it will probably make it slower. ;-)
I don't say that Mozilla's rendering looks like shit, it's actually fine, but the interface and all the widgets are ugly as sin.
Even a form field within a web page doesn't use native widgets. Butt-ugly grey square boxes as buttons on OS X. WTF??
This is exactly why Mozilla look like shit on OS X even with the Pinstripe theme and why I prefer Camino to Mozilla in every way.
You mean something like this?

almost as cool as a guy complaining about it posting as frickin AC ;-)

My god, you've got low standards.

Everyone who doesn't want to
a) wait for 15 seconds for the font pop-up menu to display, once you clicked on it. and
b) doesn't want to scroll through the damn menue for 2 Minutes just to find the font you want.
