    you are _not_ correct
and btw. changing mac addresses is trivial

"It's another way of indicating that you as an individual are sitting there on the end of the line."

you have to have (at least remote) access to the terminal the victim is using, 'cause this system is likely just another (and IMHO not so inovative) way to secure the access to (local) stored passwords/private keys.
if you have already access to the terminal there are other (easier) ways to get the stored passwords/keys.

You are right, but that is not the most scary effect of the so called "Homeland Security." Imagin: comany X finds some major bug in a widespread security relevant application an informs first(!) the US gov. so the US "cyber warfare" units had a 2 month headstart exploiting servers around the world.

    nice eh?

    > Now China gets to see the source, and we don't? Wouldn't that put them at an advantage over US companies that can't audit the code for security holes?

Do you know how many US (and non US) companies have the Windows source code now? Do you know how many US (and non US) companies sign strategic (and not so strategic) cross licensing contracts with Microsoft (and some of them include full source code disclosure) every year?
Try the news or ask some universitys CS department how (not) hard it is to get the source from Microsoft.

So the question why "you" -- i assume you are an US citizen -- will not see the Windows source code is missing the point. You will not until someone posts it somewhere -- nor will the average chinese geek/forum addict/slashdot troll.

the Twinhead N1400 sold by the "Linux Only" Laptop shop http://linuxlaptops.zoovy.com/product/TW_N1400 has a "Infrared Port (SIR/FIR)" which is not supported under Linux (at least until someone hacks a driver). not to mention the "Optional Built-in GPRS module"
the laptop works out of the box (except irda, gprs) with all newer distributions and is a fine machine (sitting in front of one of those rigt now -- runnning FreeBSD of course :-) ), but you will get a much better bargin if you by it from some Win32 shop.
