  2. I HAVE ADHD on Neural Feedback Training as Therapy for ADHD? · · Score: 1

I'm sorry, but that's not the case.

With ADHD, in laymen's terms, one's brain does not operate at the same speed as a "normal" brain. In order to keep functioning properly, it requires more stimulus then the average brain in order to stay alert.

"knowledge/computers/games/etc" do no keep one's brain stimulated throughout the entire day. These things, if attractive, are at best, a momentary solution.

Throughout the day people with ADHD have tendencies to act out, shift their attention rapidly, and/or move around frequently. They do this to stay alert. If they don't do this they start to drift off, and in some cases, even begin to fall asleep. :/

I have "ADHD." I've never been a disruptive or disorderly child or adult. As a matter of fact, I've always been quite a pleasant person. However, I have always had problems with restraining from kinesthetic actions and/or focusing my attention. As a result of this, my grades suffered as a child, and I've always constantly jittered my right leg like a jackhammer while doing work I dislike.

No amount of discipline would ever, or could ever, stop me from doing this. Regardless of whether you smack me, yell at me, or discipline me in some other way... my brain chemistry is not going to change. I'm sorry, but it's a fact of neuropsychology and biology.

Currently, I do not take any medication. Some individuals have more sever ADHD and probably require ridlin or adderall, but I don't. ADHD is never the same for any one person.

Many people can learn to deal with ADHD by working with a good psychologist / councilor. For many, ADHD is not necessarily a "problem" .. It simply means your brain functions slightly differently the most other's do. And, if worked on properly, this can actually turn out to be an advantage.

    This is retarded.

I should run for president and offer every family in the US a home on the Moon (by 2057). I'd say something about how scientists are about to unlock the awesome power of moon rocks... which, unlike earth rocks, can be turned into air, rocket fuel, timber, mad-cow resistant beef, and track housing.

When I'd win the election I would establish an official Board of Moon Security and Technology, that was staffed by all of my pot smoking college buddies. They would hang out, learn 3D max, and make fancy moon graphics to give to Fox News every other week.

THEN, when I was out of office, and 2057 rolled by, and we never made it to the moon, I could just blame it on the administrations that succeeded mine :) !!!

So, Who want a free moon house? You DO like free houses and the MOON.... don't you?!

    -- designer

Industrial design is FAR from a buzz word. It is a GIANT industry. That chair your sitting on right now, that desk that's in front of you, they keyboard your typing on, the glasses you wear (if you wear them), the car you drive, the tooth brush you use, and the monitor your looking at were all designed by an industrial designer or firm.

Heck, just about every product you can buy, from a pen to a car, was probably designed by an industrial designer or a design firm that specialized in industrial / product design.

Really, the only industrial designers that don't actually get called "industrial designers' are architects.

Industrial design is real and probably affects you more then you think.

  14. Re:Ipod killer on iRiver Announces 40G Player & Previews 2004 Line · · Score: 2, Insightful

True. Apple doesn't have access to everyone yet. A lot of musicians don't want to sell their music on a per track basis. They want to be able to sell whole albums. (buy the good track, and be forced to by the crappy ones) However, although those musicians don't have their music on the ITMS, they also don't have their music on any of the other music services.

Supposedly Apple has the largest collection of purchasable popular music. Some music stores beef up there numbers by posting music from unknowns, or only allowing certain albums to be accessible via a subscription. But Apple doesn't do that.

All in all, if the ITMS keeps growing like it does, and iPods keep selling like they do, other musicians will be forced to sell their music on the ITMS whether they want to or not. I'm already being to find popular artists and labels that wanted nothing to do with the service 6 months ago.

But hey, download iTunes and browse the music store for yourself. It's free. If you don't see anything you like, screw it ;)

  15. Re:Virginia Tech purchased those Macs at full pric on A Look Inside Virginia Tech's New Super Computer · · Score: 1

Yes, Apple does markup ram and video cards when you purchase that stuff separately.

However, Apple is also trying to cover software and hardware development, world famous industrial and interactive design teams, etc.

If you actually sit down and add up the numbers, you'll realize Apple is really not trying to rip people off. They're selling high end cases, with uncommon CPUs, and a custom operating system. Apple does not operate like a traditional hardware vendor.

Dell doesn't really develop a lot of software. Apple does.

  18. Virginia Tech purchased those Macs at full price on A Look Inside Virginia Tech's New Super Computer · · Score: 5, Informative

Apple doesn't place a giant markup on its products. They put a lot of money into product and industrial design. Therefore, Apple computer's cost more.

Virginia Tech did not get a discount on those machines. They purchased 1100 Dual 2ghz G5s at full price and spent around 3.5 million dollars on those machines. And other 1.5 to 2 million was spent on networking hardware, software, racks, etc.

Furthermore. You don't have to buy individual licenses for OS X. OS X server comes with an unlimited client license and you can put it on as many computers as you please. Or, you can decide to use OS X (client), and every new Mac comes with that for free anyway. There are also no serial number or license activation annoyances involved with OS X.
