Let's see... I want to keep more than 4GB of MP3s around. Oh, gee, I live in California -- hope the power doesn't go out for longer than my UPS lives! Etc... etc... etc...
But nobody will fly a Boeing product into the primary exchange, because we have defeated the Evil h4xx0rZ with the USA act! Now we can stop them from posting their '1337' encrypted messages to all their terrorist buddies!
Just out of curiosity, did the USA Act make it illegal to fly a plane into a skyscraper, or is that still OK?
Since this is a lottery, (you pay to play, and you don't get your $$$ back if you lose, and it's random), and it's done over the Net, isn't this a form of Internet Gambling, which the Senate just voted to outlaw in the USA Act?
Simple. As part of the ruling imposing the fine, the EU states that MS may not increase the price of [windows/office/whatever] beyond the listed price as of yesterday (being the day before the ruling).
I'd be happy if Microsoft had the huevos to not even bother to dispute the charges and just pulled all of its software out of the EU, flipping them the bird and leaving them to scramble for dry ground
Thereby proving the point that they have not only a monopoly, but that said monopoly is a danger.
But a "real" OS should not crash when a database server crashes. Yes, the DB server got corrupted, but there's no excuse for it being able to take the OS with it.
Just a comment it's AFATDS, but pronounced AFATADS.
I worked on LFATDS and LTACFIRE which were predecessors to AFATDS, and on IFSAS (Initial Fire Support Artillery System), which was derived from LTACFIRE and was interim before AFATDS.
AFATDS ran on the HCU, I believe, which was a ruggedized HP/UX workstation. It later got ported to the CCU which was a ruggedized Sun. IFSAS ran on the LCU which was anything from a 486/25 (640x480 16color grayscale) to a P-90 (and up, full color TFT display), running SCO OpenServer 2, 3, and 5 (during various points in its lifecycle).
The Army has always used *nix, just not the free variants.
Having just reread "Genius", Feynman apparently wanted to turn his down because he didn't want the fame/publicity. Of course, if you turn it down, then you have to deal with the publicity from that!
Dude, SCSI already runs over fiber (fibre). The SCSI-3 spec for SCSI-FCP is for Fibre Channel.
Fibre Channel runs at 1Gbit serial FDX (for 2Gb throughput) and 2Gbit adapters are available. They are also looking at 10Gbit technology.
Most really high end storage uses fibre channel.
What do you need a hard drive for?
This is a troll, right?
On the off chance that it's not...

Was there a Win1.0? Earliest I ever saw was 1.03 (and I've still got the 360K floppies to prove it!).
. It wasn't until WinWord 4 that Word didn't act like a port from DOS.
Only one problem.... WinWord versions were 1, 2 and 6, before they went to the year numbering.
Why the jump? Because MS wanted version numbers in sync with the DOS version.
Don't you mean "Hilary (Rosen) will surely sue"?
I guess that they thought "Judge Dredd" was a documentary!

The sad thing is that some luser will probably believe this and send it to everyone he knows.
I really don't understand why BMG lets them get CDs but I guess the ones that don't pay are a lot less than those that actually do.
Who do you think buys all those BackstreetBoys and BritneySpears CDs?
Why does the RIAA need an exception to a TERRORIST law?
Obviously, the RIAA is admitting that they use terrorist tactics!
I think that we're just seeing the results of the creation of strange matter. :-)
The strangeness is leaking into the rest of the world.

Maybe their own senator (Judd Gregg, R-NH) should follow their approach.
For those who don't know, Gregg wants to mandate crypto backdoors again.
I think we should just pass a law making it illegal to crash a plane into a building. It'll be just as effective as some of this crap.
It's already protected under the First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, and Ninth Amendments, and possibly the Third as well.
See here for the amendments.
He did, in August. Slashdot covered it here.
Judd Gregg (R-NH) obviously needs to move to a new state, seeing as NH is the "Live Free or Die" state.
The acronym "SSSCA" doesn't even have the warm and fuzzy feel to it that "DMCA" does.
I guess we'll have to get the Village People to sing "SSSCA"!

I agree. Though it was the SAIT portion of SAIC, which Litton bought, and Northrop now owns (from buying Litton).
The 486/25 version (16MB RAM/100MB HD, 16 gray scale display) ran for about $25K, wasn't it? This was in 1993 dollars.
And how are those of us with jobs, families and a mortgage supposed to do this?

Actually, NT 3.51 has a reputation for being the ONLY rock solid system MS has ever built.
