Think of it this way: if you were a traveller using the map as a guide, would it do the trick? Keep in mind that you would see the world in a similar way as the mapmaker did. Hell of a lot better than NO map!
Do you think our view of the universe is any more accurate than these old maps were? Is it any less helpful in grasping what's out there?
Try letting your wife and kids go hungry for a few days and without warm clothing for a few months and see how adverse you are to taking a job at AOL if that is all that's available. Some people don't have a choice.
Apple has been acting like a Wannabe lately. They wanna be like Microsoft. Their tactics seem familiar, but they lack the clout for their decisions to really matter to most people.
Hint: Before you turn customers away, make sure you have more than enough of them!
The bill is 342 pages long and makes changes, some large and some small, to over 15 different statutes.
No self-respecting programmer would write 342 pages of new code and put it into production after only a cursory review. Why is it that laws aren't beta tested? Why does it take such a huge momentum to get things fixed?
They have to do something about the feeling of falling down the side of a sky scraper while scrolling. It's a loooong way down! I got tired of doing it half way down the page, but hopefully the experience would be better using a real phone.
Can I order my system with no office suite please?
That's an option that too many online vendors seem oblivious to. What if I don't want an office suite? And no operating system? And no sound card? etc... Forcing it on you doesn't seem right, nor does it help bring the cost down.
Just look at how much MSDOS software abounds on the net... how much C64 stuff there is (hundreds of megs amazingly considering disks were 160KB/side!).
Minix will be around for many years to come, if only as a.tar.gz file anybody can find and download to check out how operating systems work, or maybe for tiny nano-devices. Who knows?
Not being a Canadian myself, I am willing to work with the assumptions that a) there is some way of telling John Smith of Quebec from John Smith of Vancouver
No problem... there is only *one* John Smith living in Canada.
There is only one person to blame for this: it's YOU, Cannucks. You voted for this government, and now you complain? Listen: it's been said that a country has the government it deserves. Maybe if you all weren't backwards soacalists, you would be able to live a good life like the rest of us South.
Like you, oh brother to the south, we had no choice. We had to choose _somebody_.
You've apparently never been ripped off by a power seller with a good feedback rating. Feedback gives you a hint, but often it depends on what kind of item was sold.
eg. clothes are hard to sell, more negs CDs are easier to sell, more positives
So if someone who sells easily sellable items sells something more difficult to sell, then shafts you, out goes the positive feedback rating system's value.
Patents are for rich companies, and not for individual programmers who for the most part can't scrape up $20,000 to patent an idea. I have at least one idea I would like to patent, but I can't afford it. How ironic.
This is exactly what is happening. Social engineering.
If you wanted to stop people from doing X, and you did something terrible to the people who practiced X, lots of people would stop doing X. Those who know that and have no morals or qualms about doing terrible things to people could use that fact to steer people in the direction they want. To a point anyway... only the future will tell.
Well, you know, opinions are like assholes... everybody has one.
*cough* Karma whore *cough cough*
As of 9:37AM PST, the site seems to be down (connection refused).

And yet Microsoft still claims that Open Source threatens innovation. Pah!

Why isn't it the US's problem? I'd be tempted to call this obstruction of justice on the part of those [not] doling out visas. But of course, IANAL.
AOL infringes on my privacy by selling my information to 3rd parties. Same with Yahoo!. Earthlink doesn't. Nuff said.
"...so make your own judgement..."
Can we still do that these days? Now, where's my remote...
As long as there is voting, it should be done on paper, regardless of what millennia we are living in. End of story.
It would be great if they had an opt-in policy at least.

Hey, it worked for Scientology ;)
I have heard only bad things about that religion. Movie stars need only apply.
