The cut scenes are good for a bit of relaxation and setting up the mindframe for your next objective. Now if the scenes don't drive a good story, and don't prepare you for what is going to happen next, yes, they do suck. But that isn't because it is a cutscene, it's because it's a shitty game. I don't mind cut scenes. I mind cut scenese that you can't skip.
Especially the 10 minutes-long ones they put right before an ultra-hard boss battle that you'll have to go through 6 times in a row before you figure out how to beat it. Those make my urge to kill rise, and rise, and rise...

Very interesting. I can say as a doctor I've never seen this used before though, but it reminded me of a few things:
    [...]
Lidocaine (and capsaicin to some degree) would prevent the nerves from ever signaling -- they block the sodium channel that is necessary for nerves to fire. No firing -- no pain, *and* no no neuronal changes, and hopefully no long term pain. Lidocaine wears off after 2 hours or so, while it seems that capsaicin has much longer densitization effects.

Of note, capsaicin is also used in "pepper spray" self-defense products advertised to women in particular. I wonder if one could become numb to this after repeated sprayings. Hmmm, anybody on slashdot may be able to answer this from experience? :) Have you ever talked food with Mexicans? Some of them need very spicy foods, because their sense of taste has been so numbed by spicy foods that everything is bland now.

I wonder if a capsaicin-numbed wound would leave a permanently numb region after it healed.

"In the past, Canada has always welcomed peace activists with open arms. This new policy, obviously a creature of the Bush administration, is shocking and we in the US and Canada must insist that it be overturned. Four members of the Canadian Parliament--Peggy Nash, Libby Davies, Paul Dewar and Peter Julian-- expressed outrage that the peace activists were barred from Canada and vow to change this policy.
Huh? What? When did we annex Canada? I'm sure there's some Canadians that this statement would piss off - they're quite capable of running their own country, they don't need Bush's help. Besides, why would Bush be working to make it more difficult for US Citizens to enter Canada? Your ignorance of the true nature of the relationship between Canada and the U.S.A. is appalling.
The States routinely dictate how things will be done. Canada is setting their clocks back a week later this year, who do you think made a unilateral decision to do that? Canada just followed.

A few years ago, Canada wanted to change its cannabis laws to something less ignominious, but the Canadian justice minister went to Washington to ask permission from the drug czar, and was denied. So the laws stayed the same.

Canada used to sell steel to the U.S. for one CENT for a ton.
