I believe the quote was 640k (Gates later said that he never said it). 640k makes sense because that was the limit of memory a program could take (the rest of the 1 meg was reserved for the system and the BIOS if I recall).
why don't they just point Hubble or something at the moon? Shouldn't they be able to see the lander remanents (sp?) even with a high powered observatory or something?
I started playing when I was about 13. I was reading somewhere and the website said that ZAngband gave you funny error messages if you typed unbound keys. This eventually led to Nethack, which I play sparingly now (I'm 15 now.)
All I have to say is thank you. Not too many people here understand the fact that when things really enroach upon people's desires, the people revolt. There will always be a napster clone that works, and there will always be a way to record TV shows. People consider these things indispensable; legal or not.
The speed of a transistor is pretty much governed by it's gate capacitance (correct me if I'm wrong, I don't feel like getting out The Art of Electronics). The current flowing through a transistor has no meaning other than to switch the transistor on and off. Don't forget that these are digital circuts. Just because a FET has a lower transmission resistance (I forget what the name is called) it still can allow enough current to flow to turn on the next transistor. This is all that it needed in digital applications because most often the signal is restored to it's original state after every transistor. The lower resistance, however, is good for RAM because it can drive lines with more power, permitting more liberal refresh times (I think.)
Wouldn't that mean nothing in terms of the speed at which they can be switched on and off? Wouldn't that also generate moer heat thatn normal CMOSFET chips?
well, if you consider that most "visible" holograms are just one side of the hologram, very useful. the "real" way to use a hologram is to shine a laser at it, producing a "real" 3D image on the opposite side of what you normally look at.
Think of a hologram. Depending on your viewing angle the lightwaves bring out a different patten from the interference stored in the hologram. That is how holograms can make 3D images - because both of your eyes see two slightly different images and can calculate distance. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to convert a hologram to use LEDs so that depending on what angle you view you get a corresponding image.
One of the ideas that I believe Metal Gear SOlid had was that of having fiber-optics woven into a hologram. That way depending on the angle you looked at it, it would chose a different set of fibers and thus a different angle.
The infamous installation software for Comcast installs broadjump software that has the same idea: "push" content to the user instead of having the user "pull" content from the network.
the charges Microsoft was pressing in which Slashdot was responsible for people who posted some document covered by an NDA. I'd have to agree on Microsoft's side this time, they are true in that the way that this ruling does inhibit some online speech, for example posting on Slashdot. I could see in the future where posts are simply removed because they might infringe on the DMCA or other laws.
Remember the search engine called Northern Light that organised information into folders? When you searched you could click on topics on a toolbar to refine the search. I dont' know if it's still up but it would be at www.northernlight.com
Myst still used to be the most sold game. It was revolutionary back then, maybe it will now. I'm sure Cyan won't screw this up, this is one of the best series of games ever, even if they can get a bit boring. (ok, REALLY boring)
It kind of sucks that the Sims, possibly one of the most useless games ever, surpased Myst as most selling game.
I'd rather get high with Ellen Feiss because tech support is... ... ...
a bummer.

yeah, I noticed thatafter I posted. oh well.
They'd need to get to version *30* to obtain that designation!
Thanks guys. I just read this page and it basically said the same thing.

Don't forget Deus Ex!

have a motherboard with an embedded graphics controller and this lets me make use of the otherwise dead card (I don't want to buy another monitor)

www.gamehippo.com has a bunch, I forget if they're mac or not.
Watch office space, a cult movie. Now you know what people mean by "office spacing" something they hate.

No! Wait! Give those books to 31337A0LeR and do the world a favor...

you have to give up private information to view a story on how people don't care about privacy.
It's bad to track user activity online, but it's ok to track book sales for the very same purpose?
