I have my FreeBSD server setup for a leaf node tunnel as specifed in NetBSD's examples. I can get my freebsd laptop to work with the tunnel but am unable to configure the same laptop in windows to work with the tunnel.

The article goes about the tunnel process in a different manner, but it still does not say anything about interoperability with win2k. Could the authors (or someone else) comment on how to get an IPSec replacement for WEP that works with both FreeBSD and Win2k.

I'm aware of this article, but it uses transport mode and is inadequate as a WEP replacement.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. A Few Questions and Comments on Archiving DVD's with Linux? · · Score: -1, Flamebait
Now that I've got my Linux box 100% functional with full DVD support, I want to archive all my media to it's 60gb hard drive.

Question 1: How long did it take you to get your linux box to play DVDs?

Question 2: How many times did you have to reboot?

Question 3: How many kernels did you compile in the process?

Since I don't have 60gb's of OGGable CD's, I started looking with a lustful eye at ripping and encoding my DVD collection to the hard drive as well.

Question 4: How many CDs do you actually own?

Question 5: How many DVDs do you actually own?

Question 6: Who are you going to sell your DVDs to when you have copied them to your hard disk?

Most of the guides out today are targetted towards windows software, which is not an option for me.

Comment 1: What happened to the copy of windows that came conveniently bundled with your PC?

The only reference I could find to encoding under Linux is about ffmpeg on the DivX website. What is the best file format to target? DivX? VCD? What tools are available under Linux to encode DVDs?

Comment 2: As a Linux Zealot, you will know that DivX is not standardised and therefore you cannot use it, as it is against everything you stand for.

Comment 3: There are no tools available that are legal for this purpose.

Why isn't there the equivalent of abcde for DVDs?

Comment 4: As you will know, the production of a tool like abcde for DVDs is against the DMCA, and so anyone who creates such a tool is likely to go to prison like Dimitry did.

  12. I use GNU/Linux and can't get a girlfriend! on Caldera releases original unices under BSD license · · Score: 1, Funny
    Dear Slashdot Readers

I use GNU/Linux and can't get a girlfriend, no matter what I do. From what I can tell, not too many of you have girlfriends either; I must make it clear right now that I do not want advice from you. I am seeking the advice of those who have consentual, regular, heterosexual intercourse with a well adjusted woman.

You may be wondering why I placed so many restrictions on the type of sexual intercourse. Being a GNU/Linux user, I can get all the men I want, but my ass hurts from years of anal sex. I am tired of pillow-biting. I have met women at Linux User Groups (LUGs) but they didnt want sex the way I wanted it - they brought their strap on and rode my chute like the men did. The date would end with her taking me to a gay bar and selling my ass to a drunk and bearded kernel hacker.

I am convinced, therefore, that I need to meet women that do not use GNU/Linux.

I have tried dating regular women, but find it hard to make conversation. I was surprised that regular women do not give a shit about Free Software or the Microsoft monopoly which leaves me with nothing to discuss. Some women tried to talk about the weather, but I don't keep up with the weather from my mums' basement.

I have had some success, I dated one girl several times. She picked me up from home, mum liked her. I am sure dad would have too, but he left us soon after I installed Slackware on the family computer. I can still hear him crying and see him moping around the house, saying "I knew he was different; I could handle a gay son, but this .... a fucking GNU/Linux hippy". He sounded so defeated. She wanted to go to the beach, but my skin is not adjusted to the sun and my skin peels while at the beach. This was not a turn on for her and when she came back to my mum's basement that night we were going to have sex but the raw skin was too much for her.

Going out at night for a meal can be difficult too; all restaurants refuse to serve smelly GNU/Linux hippies. The only place we can go for food is the McDonald's drive through, but she doesnt like waiting in her car in the heat of the day when I tend to smell the most. She doesn't like the stares she gets from the drive through staff.

I could go on, but I won't. I now seek your advice.

    Thank you.
