I admit I haven't tried gimp in a year or two, but one of the biggest hurdles that kept me from adopting gimp was the fact that I couldn't use the pressure sensitivity of my wacom tablet with it under windows.
I looked on the site and couldn't see anything saying that it works now. can anyone tell me if it works now? if so, i'll definitely give it a shot now.
I was a temp for 2.5 years, 2 of which i was doing the same job i am now (so i wasnt being moved around or such) and pretty much being my own boss (me and an intern were pretty much running the dept, he was there for ~2 yrs). when they finally hired us, it was pretty much an insult. sure, more than what we were making at the time, and we finally got benefits; but it was not a substantial pay raise. and no bonus or any thanks for staying around for so long during 'tough' times or anything.
in other words, dont get you're hopes up. then again, your field is probably completely different than mine, so i could be wrong.
my advice: keep looking for work elsewhere. take what you can get when you can get it. i feel like i wasted almost 3 years of my life being a temp, while doing the work of a full-timer.
the jist i got out of this article was that less competition (microsoft's monopoly) in the software market is great for competition in the hardware market. while that's fine and dandy, the case against microsoft right now isnt really focusing on the hardware market, is it?
so this is just more info to confuse the courts. saying if A is good for B than A must be good for A too?
Actually, he DOES provide a free service. Did you even try going to the site http://www.zophar.net/ ?
Zophars is one of the oldest sites in the emulation scene. Zophar helped me play some of those old NES games I used to love so much when I was 10. The store is to help the community, and to help pay for his site. NOT to make a profit.
almost the same thing happened with the Flash Linker for the gameboy color (then called the Gameboy Exchanger or GBX). However, Nintendo went after the manufacturer: Bung Enterprises. Bung had even sponsered a contest or two for amature gameboy color programmers to make homebrew games, it was a nice success; about 20-30 entries were made. Unfortunately, big N managed to win against them, and they no longer made any more GBX's. There were clones out there, but from what I always heard, Bung's was the best.
So, lo and behold, the GBA comes out, and the GBX reappears but with a different name and compatable with the new system (I'm unsure of the manufacturer). The device itself looks identical to the old GBX, and appears to work the same way, via the parallel port, with 6 AAA's or a power adapter. The only difference I saw was color and name. And for the record, I dont own a Flash Linker Advance, but I do own a GBX, so I saw this happen a few years ago, and I've always sort of figured this would happen to the GBA, it was just a matter of time.
So, I guess what I was getting at, is that there is a sort of a presedence for this, but not exactly. Nintendo had gone after the manufacturer, not the retailers. Maybe they thought it would be easier this time around to go after the small retailers in the US rather than the big manufacturers overseas. Unfortunately, if they have customs on their side, they just might be right.
I second this thought. the computer industry just needs to look at the auto industry to see it's future. me & my freinds have been saying this for a few years now; case modders are just modern day gearheads. lan party/inet fraggers, etc, are kind of like drag racers. may of them are both.
and, like the parent poster said, for consumers, a lot of them are more interested in style. why are the prowler and new thunderbird such cool cars? it's definitely not because they can carry tons of people or tow lots of cargo or wieght. and it's not like they're the fastest cars out there either. thats what nascar is for. but the plain fact is they just look cool, so ford and chrysler are gonna sell plenty of em. same goes for the imac. it's faster than anyone needs for word, and will even run photoshop and some video editing software just fine. in other words, great for lots of people. is it more expensive than a beige box? of course, but so is a prowler compared to, well, any geo.
honestly, and all thoughts of disgracing harry potter aside, i think this is one of the best pictures of bill gates i've seen. he doesn't look nearly as dumb or unkept as he usually does.
maybe he should dress like that all the time.
on the other hand, it's a shame when a grown man stoops to such levels as imitating a childern's movie (notice i said movie and not book; he would have never done this if there hadn't been a movie out)
actually, i seem to remember that rental houses pay extra for their copies in the first place. Remember when VHS copies were $100+ when they're first released, and then the prices are lowered?
this is to gouge the rental places, as they're more often to want the movie first, while the consumer can wait for the prices to drop.
so, i agree, but for different reasons. increasing the prices of dvd's for rental houses would most probably not increase prices of rentals.
oops i missed the "post anonymously" button and hit the submit one instead. oh well. like i'm really _that_ concerned about my job. (i'll probably put in notice in the next week or so anyway - too much burocracy/mis/non-communication. and that's in the communications department!) sorry to rant. it's been chapping my hide for a while now.
hey guys, i'm actually working at southwest research - no, not working on this project, but rather with their video department. But we're setting up the video of the simulation to go off the web. it's not much (a 400k 16sec clip) but we've got it available to view in.wmv format here:

actually, the idiots who were in charge of the press release on the web stuck some huge 720x480 avi on the web earlier today and made our netowrk grind to a halt. They've since removed that file. (serves them right i guess for not checking with us video guys first about it)
I can assure you that this one is much smaller.
and since i probably shouldn't be posting this(yet), i've decided to be an AC

sounds like the situation i was in...

has anyone tried putting them into the microwave yet to see if it does anything different than regular dvd's?
i always thought it was neat how different burnable media would make different patterns.
nah, you've just been playing gta: vice city too much

is it just me or is CNN starting to sound as sensational as Wired?

oh yes, and we all know how great lazer tag was.
somehow i think making it "geekier" and "tamer" are going to help.
