Whoa, dude. You sound just like Charleton Heston at an NRA meeting. :-)

I agree with most of what you're saying, except when you argue "personal freedom shouldn't be limited in this way". True, but your personal freedom is not being limited, merely your ability to interact with services (banks, websites) or software (Microsoft operating systems) that require TC. You can always buy a PC without TC, install Linux on it, and interact with services that don't require TC exclusively.

If you can't find a bank that will operate without TC... well, this is now your problem. You should open your own bank, casino, etc.

And if you can't find a PC without TC... buy a Mac or something.

It's not like the government is requiring us to use TC. If it does... well, that's when I'll reach for my revolver... or move to Norway.

You felt the Windows XP bloodlust too? Interesting... At one point whilst using Windows XP I had the sudden urge to hurl my monitor across the room and stomp on the PC tower. But then I switched back to the plain gray look, and felt better. What's up with that?

It's not the money that's the issue. Microsoft can heamorhage whatever it wants on XBox and XBox2, and it won't notice. It's the marketshare / mindshare that they're after.

If Microsoft tells everyone that they make good console systems, eventually people will believe it.

Everyone except me, of course. :-P

Besides, Microsoft will never admit that they were unable to corner a tech-related market. They can't back out now!

Farm workers are exempt from overtime? My god... I'd much rather be an overworked IT guy than an overworked farmhand.

How do you end up working 12-14 hour days? Are you just doing support and fixing mission-critical servers? It seems that if you are doing new projects, you might benefit from giving your bosses reasonable estimates based on 8 hour days. If they don't think it's fast enough, ask 'em to hire an assistant for you.

I dunno. I just don't understand unpaid overtime. If I stay late, I take some time off next week. I never work more than 8 hours a day when averaged out. Why is it so hard?

Deobfuscation is in NP. That is, for any type of obfuscation, there is a method to reduce it to a deobfuscated copy. It may take polynomial time, but it can be done.

And hey, more proof that Linux rocks.
