I'm under the impression that all of SCO's products contain some things that are protected by GPL (like GCC). So if they do loose the right to distribute GPL protected code, I think that means they can ship nothing. hence the end of their unix business.
Because IBM is making blade servers I bet they, legally, could make such a device but not a 'G5' but a 'PPC970FX' and probably not OS X compatible and Probably painfully ugly compared to the Apple, NeXT and Cobalt cubes. Have you ever seen a stylish IBM computer that doesn't take up an entire room?
Oh... and you right it would be a cult hit...I would buy it just because I already own the other three.
oops, I think I just admitted to being a Mac zealot...I'm not, I'm a vi zealot
On some other points: You're spot on with the TV tuner, it should be a build to order option.
Shame that apple didn't use a MXM (Mobile PCI Express Module) bus, at least then they could offer some faster cards later on to the Mac gamers in the world.
Why is it that Bruce Schneier is the only person that can speak intelligibly about security?
I know cryptology is complex but christ, there are a few tenants that even I have picked up reading his most excellent newsletters. Am I the only one who reads these? I can see it now: the US government winds up in Schneider's 'dog house' along with the rest of the shady dealers.
I understand that it's long distance driving where the diesel realy has the advantage. And in stop and go traffic the hybrid does. So you have a good idea, sort of the best of both worlds.
My best friend was a teacher and had a similar experience as a physics teacher. It just not worth the effort to "fight the good fight". In the end teachers are just people trying to make a living and not a good one at that.
A couple of months ago, while my car was being repaired, I read an article comparing regular diesels to the Gas-Electric hybrids. In summary the Diesels were more powerful, more efficient and more reliable. But this test was done with European Diesels (VW) and a low sulfur diesel fuel (it's called "eco-diesel" around here). These new turbo diesels are great
I use Bio-Diesel, for about 10 months out of the year, in my Skoda (essentially a VW these days). My fuel economy is the same as with the eco-diesel, the exhaust smells better and my mechanic tells me I should expect longer engine life with regular use. I assume that they have problems pumping it when it's really cold and that's why it's not available for the part of the winter, but I haven't asked. All in all I'd say the car is a little faster and lot more efficient than the Toyota I drove in the US in 2002.
I don't think it matters what percentage of energy consumption a given energy strategy will meet; because the hegemony of petroleum is not likely to be repeated soon, by any alternative energy sources.
The real problem is the efficiency and the practicality. (Your other points)
Biodiesel and Ethanol are good examples. Biodiesel can be made from a variety of sources, is efficient enough to be workable now, is compatible with the existing energy infrastructure, and is compatible with a large number of diesel engines (In fact I use B20 nearly exclusively). Ethanol is problematic in a number of ways, but still more or less workable. So given the right situations alternative energy sources can be useful, despite the fact that an entire economy doesn't use them. And given enough alternatives western societies can lessen their dependence on energy sources which must be purchased from unsavory regimes. This can be nothing but a good thing
Unfortunately the site is down so I haven't read the article so I can't comment about this specific implementation. However, I view anything H2 related as problematic because of both its incompatibility with existing energy delivery infrastructure and the ridiculous hype surrounding it.
No I am not being " nitpicky and disingenuous"! There are thousands of telescopes like this that the users could not use to find this planet. The unique part is the code! Imagine when this is used from data gathered from larger scopes. I know this is/. but still you don't have to be so negative.
I use OOO often and because I often write in English (not my 1st. language) I need the spell checker. But it does not work as well as google or as MS Word's.
how much cargo do they bring back anway?

yeah, really... we need to rename Slashdot: News for the jaded & arrogant.
we're only talking about a build to order addon card like the bluetooth or modem cards, what's with the histrionics?

Sure a gifted writer can explain the basicas to likes of me (it's only taken me a short while to understand it and I'm only an embedded developer).
But other people should take up the cry "that's ridiculous!"
I may not be an expert but at least I can say "That's stupid" or "That won't work"
Still I will admit Bruce has got it (and no one is listening)
At least I spell better than most and English is a second language, but still it's funny.
but still try learning Magyar or Cestina (Cestina is the finest language and we make the finest pivo)
I'm pretty sure that already is pretty obvious

And me having to vote from Vienna
Yep I suppose this is fun for some but a bit like masturbating in public, not something you put on the CV!
Hey! The time cube guy is my favorite freak on the net!
Well most of us already are... it's called taxes

I think that should be "Real Artists (tm)"

Man, if I was going to do all that work I'd do a SVO conversion on my car.
And thus the MOPAR 426 Hemi was born, and it was good
Just my speed too, to bad I left my lamp in the US
Jimmy I hope you like the lamp!

How long can you power the library of congress on a "cubic assload of electricity"?
Imagine a Beowolf...

The Telescope did NOT find this planet. The Software did.
