Except I was thinking of a personal server sort of thing.
One 10bt (Internet Connection), A 4 port GigE switch, A variety of USB and FireWire ports, Bluetooth, 802.11(b,g,n), One PCI-X slot, A very large SATA drive (with space for another) and a Fanless G4.
Every thing you said is begging to be prosecuted in some way. Do you think that the sysadmin doesn't KNOW what sort of network he is running? Do you think that some of the other students have not pointed this out? The network is set up the way it is because the school administration doesn't care to spend the money / time to do the right thing.
In this case they will only fix the "squeaky wheel" YOU! And probably with a bludgeon. Shutup, protect yourself, get over it and stop using their network for things you think are important.

Apple Revises eMac

Actually a last a guy had a pretty good idea for a bargain Mac. Stupid name "Core Crib" but a good idea none the less. It was basically a headless / Speaker-less eMac G4. The prototype rendering he had was very nice, very "Macish", very cheap. I believe he wanted either to buy spares or factory reconditioned parts or something like that. Of course Apple legal emasculated him and so a good idea lays by the way side.
I had hoped that when people started to make IBM PPC 970 reference boards that something like the idea would resurge.
But giving the whole thing a little more thought, there is no-way Apple would allow something to run Apple's OS at a lower cost that any of their offerings. Perhaps something will come out that requires mad soldering and live BIOS swapping, but not something someone not willing to sacrifice a goat would attempt. Which is too bad. I really think if they produced some at a Mail Station price point that would really increase their market share.
That "standard 50% Apple International tax" is enough for me to go back the US, say hello to some old friends, pick up a new PowerMac & Display (When they finally come out) and drag them both back. For a net savings!
So I wind up giving my money to KLM rather than Apple.
Disclaimer: Part of this is caused by the Dollar Euro conversion rate and the fact that I Still have US dollars.
I beleive the preferred method, would be to flood news outlets with negative information until the stock plumets to pennies on the dollar. Then pick it up and change the titles of everyone in the company to "towel boy"
The StraBenbahn here is sort of like that, so my Gran can get on easily. But I think it's more placing the doors where the wheels and motors aren't than anything else (the steps don't really move that much). The new ones though are VERY quite! Looking at Sky train though and I think people would riot in the streets of the council tried to build something that visually... arresting in the city. And I wonder if it could handle the same peak volume as the tram system.
You are absolutely right! They have every right to own them. I just wish they were already paying the FIVE dollars per gallon they deserve to...
If I needed to tow something I suppose I'd rent something capable of it rather than driving an over capable vehicle everyday.
I can understand your other points though! I like machines, I have a Ducati MH900E and I enjoy riding it. But I don't ride it every day and I don't use it to get groceries or things like that.
Where I live a bicycle is more useful, generally speaking than a car. I certainly can get into town faster, find a place to park it faster (for Free!), and pay less to own & operate it. I still use a car in the winter or when it is raining though!
So the right tool for the right job! Why drive a large pickup truck every day when you use it three or four times a year? (I guess I should admit to driving a jeep when I lived in the US and I did not use 4-wheel drive every day!)
No We're a "Virus"; at least according to the brothers Cohen!
I read the parent's "plausible theory" in Scientific American.

Who cares?
Wouldn't that be every one who had the spy installed when they didn't want it? Rather than just one man, the attorney general?

I've always thought they should just pass the RAM at market prices and double or triple the RAM in base systems
Surely the positive reviews would be worth very slight drop in the revenue stream.
After all I love OS X but it sure ain't fluxbox!
And not even just the once you mention, but over and over...

Nope! it just says "cranberry sauce"
I quit reading OSnews for this very reason. Then I found OSVIEWS which is better but doesn't help with my BeOS addiction.
Gentoo?? (I think!)
Well, I'm glad I moved!
Why.... Yes, I would!
But the whole point of Blue Gene/L is that you would not need the Reactor!
It is possible to produce cleaner diesel!

It has my interest.
Some of my targets aren't all that fast so cross-compile or use a binary.

I would love for an E-mail program to automagically sort my work e-mail into the project folder it belongs in!
It's been a while since I tinkered with sets!
