Yeah, you are right, I did not think of that. But this brings up the question: How to care for the retired?

I'm not really disagreeing with your point about under educated societies, but I think that the real overpopulation is in other places.

One trip in a Tokyo subway convinced me that Japan is crowded!

Look at the population of the oil producing states. I believe this population is unsustainably high, tied to the wealth from continued production of oil (end of oil = end of food.)

Now that I've mentioned oil, I guess that applies to all of us: No oil for synthetic fertilizers food production goes down...

So sure it's a good idea to increase food production, but what is point if this production is not sustainable?

I think many of these laws and concepts will have to be "torn down" and new ones constructed that are workable, relevant and fair. It somewhat frustrating to see the current (Mostly US) governments being so biased towards big business and the status quo. Surly some people most understand that there is more to creativity and expression than copyright and profit.

And seriously, the only serious warez trader I have ever met acted like a collector, how much money is the industry honestly losing from these obsessive compulsives?

This is great! Although I've read and enjoyed ALL of her books, the first two books are far better suited for this than the others (not being depressing or anti-men). They're short enough to translate OK into the mini series format. So far I'd give the Sci-Fi network good marks on their attempts to bring the Dune series to film.

Earthsea world is a fun world to game in despite the difficulties thrown in by the latter stories.

I wonder will they remake the lathe of heaven, and I'd love to see "The word for world is forest" or even "Rocannon's World"!

And as someone else pointed out DARPA funds research also.

US military spending is over three times what the rest of the world spends (2002-2003: 389 billion).

A manned mission to Mars is estimated to be 55 million. Even with the inevitable over-spending it's a pittance in comparison.

And just to make my self sound cool: The mission to mars could probably be paid for with the profits the USians make from the production of land mines they have covered southeast Asia with.
