Good point! I hadn't even thought of this. I'm currently doing stuff about RIB and RenderMan for my dissertation at uni. I have found the RIB format to be really useful as it has a somewhat similar feel to OpenGL (well, sort of anyways), which I am also using.
Well as it says in the RIB specification, it is for transferring scenes from modeller to renderer, so it should have been obvious to me that it's not really the same thing as what this U3D is going to be.
I was just thinking this same thing after flicking through the comments. MySQL Control Center is a rather nifty program that does pretty much everything I could think of with a MySQL server. Much like the Enterprise Manager for MS SQL Server
um, I may be missing something, but surely if you give the kids the admin password just to run one game, then they will be able to do *anything* as the administrator?
(i.e. at the logon prompt type "administrator" and then the password?)
Jet Force Gemini is one of the best games I have ever played. In fact I still play it to this day. To start with I was annoyed by the fact the I had to go through the enitre game again to collect all the parts from the spaceship, but then realised that there is alot more to the game than first meets the eye.
Amiga OS 1.2 came out in the mid eigthtys, and was 16bit (due to the fact the the Motorola 68000 was a 16bit cpu with 16bit data and address busses:\) AmigaOS 3.0 (which came out with the Amiga 4000 and 1200) was 32bit
If i recall correctly, you didn't need to hold down option for the entire load time, but only whilst you switched the machine on. It would then emit a beep, and you would press return and the game would load.
But yes, you are correct in saying that holding the option key disabled basic.
in fact, thinking about it, you had to press start as well i think. anyways, one of those keys disabled basic and the other disabled the disk drive. or was it that you had to press select to boot from the disk drive? I can't remember now, it was o long ago:)
this is the first time i've ever felt the need to reply to any of the storys on/.
i must say all these people posting and saying it was a waste of time and such like posting all the april fools, need to lighten up and get a sense of humour.
[whereas shows like Scrapheap Challenge (aka Junkyard Wars) or Robot Wars are shown in the US on non-BBC channels]
Um, Scrapheap Challenge is shown on Channel Four in the UK, it has nothing to do with the BBC

To the best of my knowledge, there's no good way to transfer animated scenes between programs (if I'm wrong on this, PLEASE correct me)
dammit, has no-one on slashdot heard of RIB?

A fine example of a game if ever I saw one.
You just don't get it do you?
FYI, if you check the Advanced Display Settings in Windows, you'll find a DPI setting

uh? what about Amiga OS 3.0? that was about 1992 or so. Much earlier than Windows 95 anyway.

That really is the funniest thing I have ever seen on slashdot. :)
CmdrTaco actually *reads* Slashdot?
I'm obviously losing my Mod points by posting logged in, but fuck it, it had to be said.
