    Most of the internet traficc is cha, email, read gossips or journals, have a little research work...
    So if they make a big LAN, contract with some minor isp a connection to the outside net, mirror the most demanding stuff, monitor what people want and change those mirrors, they can have a good biz going on. Matter of fact isn't that what the majors do?

    Microsoft Digital TV real life test, Portugal, has been a failure with only a coule of clients. So it seems logical that Microsoft changes someting on this field.

    The most amazing of this is the fact that so many people are getting this jobs as the best think they can get. The third world labour conditions are being moving to the country, you get the same people who would be working on this factorys on their homelands and put the people and the work conditions near you. And maybe they get paid a little better than on their countrys but the CEOs spend a lot fewer, they con't have to delocate the factory, and get a better image.

    For my CS Master we were to be able to crack a code so to have some points. AFAIK that still is a bonus for the students here and they don't go to jail everytime they succeedd on breaking the code. :-)

    That remainds a lot the old and still on use seal of authentication. You stamp a seal on a document an it will be legal. The problem with seals and cards is the fact they can be forged, stolen, misused by rugue employees, etc.

    The use of digital signatures will be a good breakthrought to the German Gov on the digital era but only the first step, or they will have to dela with a lot more problems.

    the stuff that i get on my cable tv are mostly very poor. No plots, bad animation, no caracthers they translate it very poorly. Can you give me some hints about really good movies i could get on dvd?

    I'm a long time fan of the European "bande dessinee", cartoons, and they are very hard to see on the states or even found anyone to talk about it.

    Dreamworks and other Hollywood Moguls are big benefactors of Linux capabilities on animation, farm processing, etc.

    Why not ask then to contribute?

    Also the big biofirms who're working on the biotechnology are using massive pc farms with linux. Why not them for support?

    The support of non-profit project can be done by this, and others big corporate guys who are profiting a lot from the technology we are developping.

    AOL is to make money, their objective as said by is Fouder Mr. Case is to build a unique mailbox to all the mail we get, electronic and voice, and to build a solid support for that. So they are interested in Comcast and other. I don't see RedHat here. Only if they think that RedHat is a good acquisition for network know-how.
    AOL at this time is more powerfull than MS and doesn't have the same problems they have (bad publicity, DOJ, bugs and more bugs).

    But HP has a strong hold on printers and corporate markets. And Compaq with Digital has a big share of big corporate world. Don't believe that they would kill so much fat has you suggest, they are already very 'thin'. And the pain of put together so different cultures and ways of life could kill the merge, like a lot of other past projects.

    Compaq is ever strong on the PC Market and HP only can compute on the desktop market for corporations. Not the best market for PCs, on a time of economy crisis.

    A few weeks ago I sent to / a proposal of news post , rejected, guessing that this merge could not succeedd. It seems I was guessing right.

    Next time I buy a lottery ticket.

    Google is one of the greatest tools on the internet. I use it all the time to look for work on my thesis, commercial sites, phone books, order flowers, buy laptops, books, etc.

    But to say that Google is the reason whu you don't give so much importance to domain names is a bit too strong. I think the mature age of the www and the bad shape economy are greater factors of the less importante domain name factor. You don't see so many fight around domain names because people have major concerns about other survival things.

    I use it mostly for code and writing latex with emacs. So for that is great, of course you ..., its been great for that for years. But with the machine I hack I have several problemas with my usb modem, I gave up on that, my tv card, burn cds on it has been a nightmare.... A part from that is been great.

    I think this will definitevely open the field for independent developers to start build for the new emergent market of hadheld gadgets. It could be a good starting point for the future generation of phones and how knows will show the nesxt few months.

    It's amazing what you can get with. As a 'visiting' researcher on a Computer Science Department I know that normally you know how cheated.

    If you can put on a program the frequency of each tudent on class, the results of his/hers homework, the times he ask the professors with doubts about the classes, etc. it could be a good xheeat detector. Nowadays in our department most of the examinations of pratical issues, like programming languages classes, are done with a computer.

    The student will write his/hers version of the program at a computer and be live evaluated, it isn't easy to cheat without been detected, and the teacher has a fast evaluation of the pratical skills of each student.
