I am sorry. I was basing my comments on assuming the poster above me was 100% correct. QT does have a comercial license availible to it. I was not aware that people were able to release their products under numerous licenses. Since it has a comercial licnses with it, my above assumtions were wrong.
Personally, I think this is why GNOME is destined to win over KDE. Its just a license issue. If the buisness world standarizes on GNOME, Propriatry Software can be created and distributed. To buisness, this is the advantage of the LGPL. I don't believe you will ever see photoshop ported or anything else similar untill this is resolved.
You don't get it do you? This is the best way to go about this. You still have a choice. If you want to run gnome, go ahead. If you want to run kde, go ahead. This is a theme that allows all apps written in various tool kits to look the same.
This is a great concept. You don't have to use it. However, this will allow transistion from other better looking desktops to happen with ease. Every program needs to look the same for 99% of the computer using world.
While i aprrcieate your plight (wishing to see the stars again), it often serves to be more practical. Most people wish to be able to see where they are going. This requires artificial light at night, and thus you are never going to get rid of the light that metroplexs produce.
When was the last time you installed windows. Anaconda is a much better install system that the windows install system is. It is much easier to install a linux distro which uses anaconda that it is to install the windows operating system. The difference is in the configuration. It is much easier to point and click your way to configure things for some reason than to edit text files. It just makes more sense for those who don't care about anything else but the gui.
I don't think this should be that suprising. It is widely known that the moon's orbit is increasing. The effects of this is slowly causing the tides to be less severe. It is also slowing the earth's rotation. Eventually the moon will be in orbit around the equator, and there will be no more tide. I think there might be a good chance that the loss of the leap second could be related to this.
Its buisness as usual. No one stopped using.gifs during the.gif crisis. No one stopped using.jpegs when that was a problem. It is an already established part of buisness, its not going to dissapear that easily.
But the good news is that WinMX is not as spammed as Kazaa. Not as many people, but chances are you will not get the mp3's which are clearly designed to destroy speakers.
I'm sorry, but that has to be the stupidest thing i have ever heard. I've heard these high pitch squeaks, and it is usually a result of a messed up rip. Do you honestly think that modern speakers are going to attempt to play something outside of their frequency range? Stop falling for the hype.
Is good for the Gander... If companies can make money by selling private information, then they can lose it by releasing it publicy if they are not authorized.
The difference between what the poster is talking about and what you are talking about is that you have a grasp of what you are doing. I don't want to pigeon hole all admins and say they have no clue, but I've been in the enviroments where they don't. And it just makes things horendous.
Before I get labled a troll, I wanted to add that I am discounting the one ones who know what they are doing. In my situration, I have the distinct pleasure of working for a small enough orginization where as I am both Admin and Developer. Good or Bad, that is a different debate. I know there are some really good Admins out there, but i haven't run into many lately...
How incompetent most "IT Administrators" are? For the most part, I cannot stand dealing with them. 50% have no clue how to secure anything, and the other 50% are so anal that they themselves can't do work unless they are in the server room itself. Most are all over "specialized" as well as under skilled. In any given organization, there is a Webmaster, Network Administrator, DBA... this list goes on and on; none of whom have any clue what the others are doing on their own network. My favorite quote from a network administrator when I asked him to set up an ftp server temporarily so I can transfer some files was "I'm not a ftp guy, we'll have to find someone who knows what that is."
Solaris has led the industry in proven military grade security built-in to the OS, and with Trusted Solaris OS, offering unmatched levels of privacy, second only to the Windows.NET security framework.
I expected the moderator who would mod me down for being off topic, despite me declaring it to the world to begin with.
You make a good point, I did notice it. Its a shame though, becuase it really makes the site anoying when the add shows up there. I know i'm not going to be able to sway the almighty slashdot by thinking of reading my news elswhere, but it is very intrusive.
Oh well, thanks for the response. The light bulb went off in my head that slashdot is here to make money just like everyone else... It is NOT just here for us geeks.
I know i'm way off topic here, but what is with that advertisement bar moving to the side? It looks like crap! I'm fine with the ad at the top of the page, but why move it down to the side?
I sent a small "I can't believe you made this decision" email to each of the listed contacts. I also have requsted information from TIVO and COMCAST as to their opinions on the matter, after noting that i will NOT pay any type of monthly fee for programing i cannot record according to my own free will.
You want to hurt these people, do it where it really counts:
why did you have to work in the server room, most of the work should be able to be done from outside.
I hope they plan on giving me a nickel if i walk in and show them the pop-up. I sure as hell don't want to get charged for something like this.

But yet, their stock is still not taking a nose dive...
I'll not only be impressed, I'll be first in line. The price of the apple hardware is the only thing keeping me from running OS X.

sorry
Robocode is the same type of thing. You create a Java Class that is used to simulate a tank. And just like RARS, its not as easy as it looks.

Tell that to the RIAA.
And find out when exactly episode 3 will be released.

Nope... can't work. There is no wild card "?"
Here I thought /. was the source for fair and balanced coverage.
You must be new here...

Second to Microsoft? How is this good for SUN?

I know i can't be the only one that did this, but just in case:

You want to hurt these people, do it where it really counts:
Threaten their bottom line.
