    Unfortunately real world economics appear to drown this idea..

    Basically its liek this..

    Software is infinitately copide.. and thus we can reason that if its part of infrastrucutre that there would be an economic incentive and movement by developing nations to make software free..

    Whereas hardware is not easily coopied and thus whiel it might be commodized by shifting labour costs will still cost something to all type sof consumers..

    Thus rises the problem when you have IT geeks try to indidcate they understand economics..

    Sun should worry more about MS taking the profits from High Performance computing and their market share than spewing useless FUD..

    Sun will drop its lInux versions fo JDs fro in favor of Solaris versions of JDS..

    Reason: the underlying Linux distro SUn is using is not SuSe as the article states but UnitedLinux which as you know modified SuSE amoung soem standards to make the distro..

    As you know The SCO group has refused to modfiy it smembership in United Linux in order for further versions of United Linux to be produced..ie SUn choose a dead distro in order possibly lock cusotmers into Solaris..

    Exepcted announcement aroudn JavaOne or a little bit after..

    With the support orle on resume you need some actual exp in yoru high tech area..

    The best advice I can give is find some free or open source projects that match up with the new langauges/skills you have and contribute..

    Once you do this list them as a real job with exp..Project and dev leads are very nice in giving full work references when you do this and it shows a future employer thatyou know where the technology is headed in your area..

    Gosling makes several errors both on the economic trends of SUN in the server hardware sector the difference between a state machine and a desktop manager and etc..

    Also remember that the linux standard survives and thrives under GPL stewardship..a charge Gosling never has completely refuted other to resort to name calling..

    You will probalby see more name callign from several sectors at Sun.. sad really.. so much could be solved by stopping the name callign and deal with the real issues such as devleopers worried that because the settlement seem to take aawy 50% fo all java marketing in one fell swoop that java may be waning and etc..

    let me point out some facts..

    TSG is only gettinghtese 'linux brand' license from previous licenseees of TSG Unix products..no doubt ev1.net had one at one point..

    The legal threat contained in the letter sent out was far reachign and beyond what TSG was granted by novell via licensing Unix..

    When presented with such a situation its always best advised to say simply we have read yourletter and are awaiting judgement from the courts to resolve this issue..

    His explanation doesn't wash..

    is there a canopy omeny connection behind the scenes?

    Frist samba cannot get access to MS apis becasue ms charges royalties befroe the eu ruling and ow after ruling its suppose to change opensource and freesource oppporuntities for samba, huh?

    Folks it snot the apis that matters in ms smb implementations... remember it does nto and I repat not follow MS owns documented PSi..in fact iti differes from any docemunted apis..

    what weed were these people smoking, huh?

    I speak directly from samba history in which the lead develoeprs talked about hwo they had to ignore the smb spec from MS becuase the os was doing something totally different..

    A hint folks MS charges royalties on access to apis ..court fines have no bearing on that decision..

    Will some one please think beofre they mouth oiff?
