You just included Singapore and China in the same bandwagon. I guess folks in America could afford to think a little bit more outside the obsession towards free speech. Singapore doesn't block websites that criticizes its own government. In plain simple words it blocks porn. What have we done so far to make the internet a safe environment for kids? Is there any onus on the pr0n site owners? You can easily get away with running a free porn post site which can be (potentially) visited by any age group.
When it comes to free speech, everybody is up for hactivism or activism. When it comes to responsibility......
Are we assuming that software HAS to be free already? Does it mean that we need some kind of a policy for univeristy and educational institutions not to spend for software at all? That being said, I am not justifying the MS pricing or anything...
Mozilla uses a lot of memory in the current build. I hope some work is being done in that area! Sometimes just minimizing and maximising mozilla takes years to render itself alive!
Interestingly, Fox's Bill O'Reilly seems to have an extreme view on the films that you specified! I saw his one hour special on Porn and Violence on prime time television and movies. He painted a very bleak picture and called makers of the movie American Pie II as irresponsible morons! Also the hip hop aritists and their lyrics (If you can understand them:-))
I read somebody's reply claiming that CNN et al built credibility over time with their news reporting and he would rather trust them than indie media. This is largely true, but I will tell you why indie media helps (despite that fact that folks like Marty gets to write in that:-)). In the recent coverage of war on terrorism, did you follow CNN's coverage of the war from Pakistan? They were glorifying pakistan's involvement as a frontline state and president (General) Musharraff's commitment. Most of the reporting just looked like some kind of a promotional material. The real truth is Pakistan (and Musharraff) created the mess called Taliban through their religious schools. Which is largely responsible for the terror attacks. There is absolutely no word on this from the CNN's reporters staged in Pakistan. Is this credible?
I checked their support website yesterday. They explicitly say that they don't support home networking (thought they have a FAQ on that) VPNs and also they are blocking incoming port 80.
One thing that baffles me is, they somehow figure out you are inactive (I am yet to figure out what determines that) and remove your lease on the IP. Everytime I come home in the evening, I HAVE TO release and renew the IP address!
The marxists all around the world started protesting the automation and computerization because it is supposed to make humans irrelevant. In front of their eyes people got more employment and now they are manifesting themselves as neo-marxists advocating free software initiated Utopia!
I refuse to subject myself to this delusions of grandeur as much as I refuse to belive the capitalists!
So it seems it's more than just a Sun effort, and they claim it's not about another company holding onto everyone's personal info. The goal appears to be a method for single sign-on where each individual company maintains customer data relevant to its own business. They describe it as a decentralized, federated system built on an open standard
Its yet another classic case of Sun 'rescuing' folks from microsoft's grip:) I don't see any other agenda to it. Only difference is, Microsoft will openly acknowledge it is a business effort, while Sun will say it is Open and beneficial for the users and still try to do the same!

I wonder whether we can call it a tax!

...Modded down already....

Really folks. This stuff doesn't deserve a post.
Folks,
I checked their support website yesterday. They explicitly say that they don't support home networking (thought they have a FAQ on that) VPNs and also they are blocking incoming port 80.

I was ROFL :-)) I am sure people in Kabul (for that matter in Pakistan or in any of the *stans) don't give a rats ass about FTC getting Microsoft.
This seems to be somebody's fantasy...
