You slip so easily into fascism, eh? As long as it's for the cause of good, right? A strong government to seize control and FORCE those jackasses! That power will never be abused! Hail fascism!
This is the most massive case of projection I've ever seen. Who's Trump going to start the war with? Russia shouldn't be an enemy. China? They're run by engineers, you couldn't start a nuclear war with them if you tried.
On the other hand, Hillary took the initiative in starting wars, the Libyan civil war comes to mind. She also represents the interests of the banks, the arms manufacturers, and the Washington DC establishment. You know, the ones who continually demand that wars start.
I don't know if you've been following the news for the last 4 years but we have been deliberately provoking Russia for quite a while now. You know about the situation in Ukraine, right?
As for Hillary, her husband raped several women, and she attacked his rape victims. Really. In public, without any apparent sense that what she was doing was wrong. She was trying to discredit these rape victims. It's on tape. Who needs her emails?
We don't say "'Nam" any more, Grandpa. Moreover it's the marketroids that come up with these names, not the techies. And seriously, nerd-shaming, on Slashdot? Turn in your geek card, it's revoked by unanimous popular consent.
"Accounts of the Soviet labor system should be suppressed even if true, since otherwise the French working class might become anti-Soviet."
-- Jean-Paul Sartre
The old story is, "should we journalists tell the truth even when it harms our own political prejudices?" And sadly, the answer is typically "no". Just like here. If the leaked emails had been damaging to Trump, Democrats everywhere would be cheering the hero Wikileaks again, and toasting with the most expensive Russian vodka they could get their hands on. But that didn't happen. What happened?
The Establishment's chosen candidate (Democrat voters certainly didn't choose her, if you voted in the primaries it was an utter waste of your time) was exposed as the lying sack of shit that she is. Not once have the Democrats denied any of the emails. NOT ONCE. So, naturally, journalists are coming up with all sorts of rationalizations not to publish these, because otherwise the American people might make the wrong choice and choose the candidate who won't put the Establishment's needs first. It's an old story that's been repeated and We The People get fucked every time.
"No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. He would be only too happy to let you make your decisions for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where should we be?"
-- George Orwell, "Animal Farm"
Six digits is a low number now? *boggle* Yeah, I don't run my own mail server because I got out of the computer industry. Today, if I need IT services done, I fucking hire someone and let them deal with the grief. Never again will I be paged at 3am because the fucking server is down.
Actually, it's a fitness band that shows the time. It's supposed to unlock my phone automatically if I'm in range. Since I hold my phone with the hand with the watch on it, and swipe with the other, the band is always in range. I'd say 6 times out of 10 it works OK, 2 times out of 10 there is an irritating delay while it displays the password prompt and figures out it should unlock, and 2 times out of 10 it doesn't work at all and I have to input the password. Not something you want your life depending on.
Firearms are already complex mechanical devices, there is a lot that can go wrong already. 10 minutes after the smart band becomes legislated into existence, evil men will start carrying jammers to interrupt the signal so that other people's (legitimately purchased) firearms can never be fired. Including the police. The criminals, will, of course, not be subject to these restrictions. Not following the law is kind of the definition of what a criminal is.
Well, it seems that Google is only going to become more and more evil from now on. It was a good ride while it lasted. We got more than most companies, a solid ten years of good service. But now, the new crop of executives is in place and to them, "don't be evil" sounds like the stupidest motto ever. The old internet culture of sharing and open source and being trustworthy...well it just has no place in today's Google. The new breed just doesn't get it, or understand why it's important. It can be enforced, for a while. I'm sure it will live on in certain Google divisions, but as a principle it's dead as Dillinger.
I've used Gmail.com as my primary "real name email" for doing hotel reservations and such, anything that requires my real name. Obviously this has to come to a halt. Where should I migrate my real name email to? Is there any trustworthy email provider? Or, a provider in some oddball country that doesn't give a crap about spying on me? As I think the days of free email are behind us, I don't mind paying say, $5/month or something.
Congratulations for earning the "Eurotrash idiot of the thread" award. I didn't think a technical story like this could get the award, but you nailed it. Maybe you need to stop reading US websites. Read European technology websites, like, uh, I'm not really sure, but I'm sure they're there and a thousand times better than Slashdot.
Populism? What does this have to do with Donald Trump? The Fukushima disaster permanently ruined the name of nuclear power. I see we are unfamiliar with left-wing and environmentalist causes. The entire issue is dead as a doornail. Nuclear = bye-bye. You don't believe me, go ask them yourselves (and bring a flameproof coat, these people get REALLY angry about the issue).
As a tree-hugger you certainly know that Fukushima permanently ruined the name of nuclear power. Nuclear power is a non-starter. How do you not know this?
LOLOLololzzz. It is a privilege under socialism, to have your unneeded excess wealth siphoned off and transferred to people who can use it better than you can. Spread the wealth. But suddenly it's "let's cut off those freeloading bastards" when it comes to your own money. LOL.
He said working homeless, not crazy drug-addicted unemployable homeless. Those are two utterly different things, but I guess reading comprehension isn't your strong suit since you went off on an unrelated rant.
I love how you are completely unaware you're complaining about immigrants ruining everything though. LOL. They don't care about your culture, they don't care about your people, they just want to move in an do whatever the hell they want. If those dirty people would just stay out of your City, everything would be fine! LOLolololzzz.
In which ways, exactly, was CDE a "piece of shit"? I'm curious to know the reasons. Can you give some?
I used CDE and it worked fine. You had a common desktop environment you could use on any workstation that Sun made, from the biggest to the smallest. You could go from vendor to vendor and still have a familiar environment that wouldn't get in your way, you could be productive immediately. AIX, HP-UX, OpenVMS, Solaris, even UnixWare. CDE was for work and it did that job well.
Oh, it was ugly? Well heaven forfend that an environment made for real work wasn't pretty. Good thing KDE came out, it certainly looked pretty. As you stated, dirt-poor performance but who cares about things like that?
And now that KDE is doing what it always did, look pretty at the expense of being good, you say it's lost its way? That the developers aren't doing what you want? You just stated that you value looks over functionality. WTF? Please to be explaining.
The idea wasn't to boil a pot of tea. The idea was to get attention. And it worked spectacularly!
You have to think outside the box on these things. There is a kind of person who LOVES attention and will do what it takes to get it. Sure, everyone likes attention, but these folks feel empty and sad if they're not getting it.
Wait, I thought discrimination on basis of sex was wrong. As in, nobody should do it and the entire idea should be erased from our culture as barbaric. The problem the whole time was that the wrong sex was being discriminated against? Why didn't we hear this 40 years ago?!?
White female teacher has sex with 15 year old student. Gets a slap on the wrist.
White male teacher has sex with 15 year old student. Gets life ruined, sex offender, and a lengthy prison sentence during which his life will be in danger every day.
The kind of cancer he had was easily treatable by modern medicine. What happened was, Steve Jobs spent his entire life refusing to accept things and FORCED them to happen according to his will. Of course, this was all with human factors, things that he COULD affect. The cancer didn't give a shit about his famous reality distortion field, It spread and killed him and his alternative medicine didn't work for shit. Fun fact: what do you call alternative medicine that actually works? Medicine.
I was a loyal Opera user for years and years...until Opera discontinued their PC version and called their new re-skin of Chrome as "Opera". I tried it, it didn't last long...it didn't even have bookmarks. So, I started using FF as my default browser. It wasn't half bad once I got a dozen or two plugins installed. Of course, there was always the problem with plugins breaking when FF upgraded, which really sucked. I *depend* on those plugins, they're what make FF usable. One day, a plugin I absolutely had to use for work broke. So, byebye Firefox.
I use the Opera successor called "Vivaldi" now. It's another Chrome clone. It's missing a lot from the old Opera. But, whatever, at least I don't have to deal with Firefox any more. I wanted to like it, it was my last choice...but I wasn't given any choice. That's really what made me abandon Firefox.
But the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation has accepted tens of millions of dollars in donations from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Algeria and Brunei â" all of which the State Department has faulted over their records on sex discrimination and other human-rights issues.
The department's 2011 human rights report on Saudi Arabia, the last such yearly review prepared during Mrs. Clinton's tenure, tersely faulted the kingdom for "a lack of equal rights for women and children" and said violence against women, human trafficking and gender discrimination, among other abuses, were all "common" there.
Saudi Arabia has been a particularly generous benefactor to the Clinton Foundation, giving at least $10 million since 2001, according to foundation disclosures. At least $1 million more was donated by Friends of Saudi Arabia, co-founded by a Saudi prince.
VOTE HILLARY 2016! A vote for Hillary is a vote for the Saudis. A vote for Hillary is a vote for the Trans-Pacific Partnership. She supports both of these causes, if you agree with her, then she is definitely your candidate.

Another person to whom the words "internet" and "web" are interchangeable. Sheesh. And on a nerd website, too.
Europeans can't take credit for inventing the internet because Al Gore did that.

How much did Comcast earn from this evil behavior? Was it more than $2.3 million? Then why shouldn't they do it again?
When you reward a behavior you get more of it.

The 2015 documentary "Under the Dome" was produced by a CCTV presenter whose unborn baby developed a tumor in the womb. She tries to find out why there is so much pollution in China, and why nothing is being done about it. The Communist Party's publicity department banned the film three days after release, which should tell you it's something you need to see. (Like how the Democratic National Committee told everyone not to read the leaked emails). When powerful people tell you to do something, you do the opposite. Under the Dome is available on Youtube, which is of course blocked in China. Worth a watch. No relation to the CBS TV series.

Please list all the politicians who have taken millions from the Saudis to purchase access to their office. 1. The Clinton Foundation.
She took their dirty money and knew exactly what she was doing.
Applause for a perfect example of the "moving the goalposts" argument. I'm going to bookmark this and refer to it in the future. Well done!
