Guess what, it was your buddies the Communists who beat the Nazis, the Allies simply prevented them from overrunning all of Europe.

    Nobody can help you unless you tell us what the terms are. Seriously, trademark issues are famously inexact, and being vague doesn't help one bit. It could be either way, honestly.

    Should have registered the trademark yourself, that way there would never have been a problem, and if there was already a registrant, change the name of the damn software. I swear for some reason open source developers choose the dumbest names for products.

    Wrong, wrong, wrong. Wholly owned foreign enterprises (WOFE) have been available in China since China joined the WTO way back when. These limited corporations are fully owned by the foreign investor. There is another structure called a Joint Venture (JV) that does require a 51% share by the Chinese side, but these are typically used in restricted industries like publishing or mining where WOFEs are not allowed. They are stupid and I don't know why any foreign company ever does them.

    Americans are fleeing to Latin America? Really? This is the first I've heard of it. The same Latin America that is so dysfunctional that its people are fleeing in droves to barrios in our inner cities? Think about it...our prisons offer a better quality of life than their entire countries. Sad, isn't it?

    Residents of the United States of America are called Americans and have been for hundreds of years. I'm not really sure where the confusion comes from here, just ask any non-Americans and they'll tell you.

    The defenders of the Alamo didn't lose. They made victory possible by their stubbornness and refusal to give up, even in the face of overwhelming odds. What you're talking about is certain defeat, more like the defenders of the Maginot Line. It's not your fault, schools don't teach inconvenient truths any more. :,( The whole Alamo narrative is hopelessly not leftist and therefore cannot allowed to contaminate the young. :(

    The real issue doesn't have anything to do with roads. The real issue is that a government official has openly admitted that it probably doesn't make sense that his bureau should get more money.     The problem is if you DON'T catalog your entire life online, have facebook/twitter/linkedin/ad nauseum, they don't trust you. They need to see your entire life to feel comfortable. If you're one of those "I don't do facebook" people, you've not only identified yourself as not one of their tribe, but your lack of researchable information makes you immediately suspicious. I recently lost what I thought would have been a good business deal because of this.

    It's not "Chinese exceptionalism" (whatever that means), it's just that since 1989 the Chinese economy HAS been on a constant upward trend. Your girlfriend was basing her mentality on observed reality. She DID understand how financial markets work...in China. Sort of sad you couldn't get out of your own mind, extrapolate, and figure it out. Criticizing her for being trapped while doing the same yourself has a name in English, I forget what it is. Seriously, except for a dip in 2008, it has been up, up, up for as long as anyone can remember, certainly a post-90s girl like your ex. Everybody DID get wildly rich.

    Let's note that this was all imaginary money that disappeared. This has been a while in coming, because every Chinese person knows that every company out there has two sets of books, the real books and the buffed-up books for the government. All the way from the corner store to the largest corporations. Hell, I did it with my own company, and my legitimate registered accountant was happy to help. And why not? It's what she did with all her other customers.

    A bunch of Chinese companies have been recently de-listed from American stock exchanges for fraud, because that's how the Chinese roll. They just don't know any other way to do business. I blame the overcrowding and zero-sum mentality that ensues. There is a firm cultural belief that in order for you to win, others must lose. There's none of this American "let's make the pie bigger so everyone wins" attitude. I've tried it, it doesn't work, people just think you're an idiot. The stock market is just a big casino because everyone knows that the books are full of shit. I know everyone likes to shit all over America's Wall Street but seriously I'd take them any day over mainland A-shares or B-shares or even anything listed in Hong Kong.

    Whaaa?? Medicine is poorly done in America? You're joking, right? America has some of the best doctors in the entire world. The medical schools are full of foreigners who come to train and then go back to their home countries. An American medical school diploma is worth a lot back there. Everyone knows you can't just buy one the same way you can with the medical diplomas in their country. Maybe you're just an anti-American bigot, and as we know bigotry and ignorance are always found together.

    Doctors *are* smarter. They have to be. You won't find many double-digit IQs because they don't make it out of undergraduate study.

    To this day I remain a late, late adopter of technology. I wait until the market has sorted out the winners and losers, then go and buy the most standard piece of equipment I can find. I was deeply scarred as a youth by Betamax video tapes and the Intellivision game console. My family owned both. Both were clearly superior to their competition. It was visible to the naked eye and owners of competing systems admitted without shame that it was so.

    However, back then it was considered a flippant waste of money if you had more than one standard, so that was what we had. I couldn't trade games with anyone but this one kid whose parents wouldn't let him trade games. I couldn't rent most of the tapes in the video store. I couldn't copy tapes and give them to friends. AND THEY WERE BETTER SYSTEMS! In every measure, technically, visually, flexibility-wise, the list goes on and on.

    Ever since I moved out of the house and bought my first VHS, I've mistrusted my ability to judge what will win. Sometimes the only winning move is not to play. Otherwise, I'd probably be one of the people they quoted for this article.
