Or AOLs 10,000 free hours in 30 days, I bet there isnt even 10,000 hours in 30 days
I know that it's way off topic, but they offer 1000 hours in 45 days. It's not a month they're doing at all anymore. That's roughly 22.2222222... hours per day.
I don't know about NT or 2k, but Xp does have a console shutdown command -- quite simply, "shutdown". I'd test it on my 2k box at home, but alas...I'm at work.
Seriously! I work for a company (no, I won't say which one) that provides cable TV, cable modem, DSL, telephone, and some wireless service! How do they expect to regulate that?
I live in Springfield, MA. This is the third largest city in MA. You'd think I have choices myself. This is what I have:
(1) DSL from Qwest/Verizon -- Reasonable price, but funky outages and somewhat lousy support
(2) ISDN from Verizon -- High price, same outages and support
(3) Satellite -- Oop...my apartment doesn't have a southern exposure...and I live in a 'historic building'. I couldn't put one up if I wanted to (4) Cable modem from AT&T -- promised 5 years ago, still no service in the city. Heck, we're still on an A/B system!
(5) Dialup
If I want high-speed access, it's semistable DSL for me. If Verizon denies access...well, I'm screwed. They block port 80. Oh, well, if I want the speed, this is what I've got. Beautious.

And just for the record, I thought the muppets looked far more realistic than the lame computer graphics of Episode I.
Seriously!...and what's worse, Episode II looks to be worse on that front. The CGI looks cheap. Not cheap as in price, but just done cheaply. Special effects can ruin a movie, rather than add to it, especially when immersing everybody in it so heavily. If you're close to real-life, it looks worse than not being remotely close. The 'muppets' were done with far more care than the CGI, I think, and it shows.
So many people are suggesting eBay for buying laptops. This is all well and good, but it seems that a good 75% of the ones on there are shells: no power supply, no battery, no ram, no hard drive, no floppy, no cd-rom, dead display...and still selling for $200 for a Pentium 133! The only complete laptops I see are selling for way over what I'd want to pay for something used with no warranty...

Yep. Cosco lost my business that way. Why go to a place that makes it inconvenient to pay them when there's something similar (BJ's) nearby that takes everything?
I was once a telemarketer...it was the worst thing I ever did in my life. My advice to all: if you're ever approached to do such, run...run away and never return!
I've done it myself, and found it works well, if you're going to have the two boxen near eachother. That 14 foot limit is *very* annoying and using repeaters can get expensive if you're going far.
Also, as to cost, I'd imagine you can get a NIC for close to the cost of a repeater, and just use that FireWire port for your external devices.
Actually, I had a mouse odometer from Toggle Booleans some time ago (for Win 3.1, but it works above that) that counts keystrokes too...separated into alphanumeric keys, directional keys, and things like Ctrl, Shift and Alt. It works great!

Well, if you install 'screen' and run it at the prompt, it will give you colour by default (IIRC).

Cosco around here won't take my ATM card. Rather annoying, that.
BJ's is another business just like Cosco. It's a wholesale club with gas pumps and everything.

Indeed. I currently work technical support for an ISP, and hear this all time time. My last call, for instance, included this conversation:
Me: "So, now that we've got your account set up, which program would you like to use for mail?"
Customer: "What do you mean?"
Me: Well, you need to use a program to get your e-mail.
Customer: "Like AOL?"
Me: "Ahh...yeah, something like that. The most common ones are Netscape, Microsoft Outlook Express, Eudora..."
Customer: "Well, I don't want to go through the trouble of downloading anything...I'll use what came with it..."
Me: "Outlook Express it is, then..."
