    My point wasn't that he could juggle in space. The point is that he would be used to varying rates of speed, direction, and distances. Therefore, his muscle memory would not as rigid in focus as somebody that plays catch with a baseball.

    I appreciate the humor, but in this experiment the balls were thrown at them. It was just catching, no throwing.

    That it took practice is exactly correct. It's like catching a ball from a different quarterback that throws sidearm with his left hand. If the trajectory and acceleration are substantively different, it will take a while to get comfy. I suspect a well practiced juggler could adjust to the diffences in Space fairly quickly.

    Honestly, that a coupla of guys with PHDs in Physics couldn't catch a ball doesn't suprise me all that much.

    Cars are independent, they get you from A to B, and that's it.

    Said like someone that carpools in a Hyundai. My automobiles are far more than "A to B". They are a lot of fun. Hell, I usually swing by H when I'm going from A to B.

    Cars/trucks are inherently pleasurable and entertaining. And I have the points on my license to prove it.

    The point is:

    Say your name is Bob Miller. You want bobmiller.com. Some other Bob Miller has it already. You could put your name on the WL, and get it if Bob2 doesn't reclaim it.

    The problem with this is, that Mail banks and resellers are likely to be the first ones in line, making it very difficult for any true benifit to the People to materialize. If anything, this will make things worse.

    While it is true that the MPAA or whatever Evil manifests itself as in Scandanavia could show harm or damage done to them. however, I for one would welcome the opportunity to force them to demonstrate this harm.

    We all know that most DVD pirating goes on in Asia, with stamping machines that make exact copies of the physical media. I sincerely doubt much of anything has been lost due to DeCSS, save lawyer fees. I say "Bring it on."

    A quick translation of the law in question: "To break a protection mechanism or otherwise getting unauthorized access to data which is stored or transmitted electronically or by other technical means, and cause damage by gaining or using such unwarranted knowledge."

    But what about the ", and cause damage by gaining or using such unwarrented knowledge" bit? It's not illegal to break in, it's illegal to break in and cause damage. At least, that's how I read it.

    Because part of the web's data goes through THEIR systems... Physically... they are paying for it, it is using their resources... Broadcasts via radio is not using THEIR resources... That's why.
    If radio waves are not their resources, then why is it bought and sold and licensed and regulated?

    And if radio/tv does not use resources, why is it that I can go to jail for using what is "physically" on my property? (DirecTV "pirating")

    I've read it now, and my knee jerked in the wrong direction. This is pretty cool. Should make for quite the pissing match over the next year or so.

    This is a debate that I'll be watching closely. Nothing beats Really Smart people arguing over their fundamental beliefs. And there's enough Laureates in this one to to hold a Rodeo.

    The Gist of this article seems to be that the neighbors can use the bandwith without paying for it. Thisis the same as my friend next door that get's NHL Center Ice, and then has a few of his neighbor's over twice a week to watch games.

    All this time he thought he was sharing what he paid for, building a sense of community with his neighbors. Can't wait to tell him that he's really depriving DirecTV of nearly $1,000 in revenue since the boys and I don't have to pay to watch it.

    Honestly, as long as I'm not clogging my segment, I don't want to hear any bitching about this service I pay 600 bucks a year for.

    The best part is it works with legacy networks. I use mine for my BNC Token Ring segment at home. It bridges to Localtalk, too.


    We have a BFJ (Family-Size) serving as a patch panel for our NOC at work.

    Yeah, but we use Open Source software extensively. We use Linux quite a bit (though not as much as Solaris), Perl for damn near everything, and Apache for our web servers.

    We use Mac's too. For image processing. And one particular Gene-specific application. But that totals maybe 10 machines. We have more Linux desktops. And more Penguins (4) in the data center than Apples(0).

    I can understand how someone could choose between, say, food or broadband. But So long as I have 50 bucks left over after the car and house are paid for, my ass ain't digging that goddamn modem out of the closet.

    And frankly, I don't know anyone else that would, either. I supect the Author's sole anecdotel example is also their neighbor. There isn't a story here.

    I'm not disagreeing with him. But you seem to actually made a point, whereas he pretty much just said "it's confusing". Well yeah, it is confusing. Anyone trying to figure it out realizes that. I don't understand what was insightful about that.

    Maybe you, or someone else read more into his comments than I did. That's why I asked to be clued in.
