  2. Something people seem to be missing about the fuel on Kids Build Soybean Fueled Sports Car · · Score: 1

is that it is biodeisel. Biodeisel, though it can be made from soybean oil does does not have to be. Any waste cooking oil can be easily converted to biodeisel. We dont have to grow new crops of fuel plants, what we cant do is take the toxic waste that mcdonalds cant find a place to dump and convert it into fuel and food grade glycerine. Both of which have a very reasonable market value. Perhapse these kids soybean biodeisel differs in some way from mainstream biodeisel and that gives the car super powers, but i dont think it can be that far off if it is still considered biodeisel. it sounds more like the media is having fun saying "car runs on beans" than addressing the finer points of deisel design. all i know is that with the upcoming M1 batteries and the deisel-hybrid we might actually have some good cars in the future.

  4. Re:Huh? on No Time Travel, Sorry · · Score: 1

the effect you are speaking about is time dilation. warp theory was actually a method invented to circumvent the effects of time dilation. so in your example you would need to use conventional rocket propulsion and thusly be moving through space. Time dilation is not time travel, so to speak, but an effect of the de-synchronization of time dependant on the speed at which one travels through "space-time". the effects of time dilation are also very small and not very noticeable until reaching very close to the speed of light. time dilation does not include "time travel" never in the effect does one reverse time. it simple suggests that speed effects the forward flow of time. allowing the faster object to essential be in slower rate of change than the more stationary object. this is what the writer of the article is essentially suggesting... that time as we measure it comes in increments of perceived change. As for him saying relativity is wrong, he really isn't going so far. the point is that relativity negates the possibility of backward time travel. Everyone who supports it on the basis of relativity is only looking at what part of the model they want to support their ideas and disregarding the parts that make their dreams impossible, such as the overriding basic laws and math of the model.

In addition, the theory of relativity does not prove anything. Experimentation and observation prove things. We know that parts of the relativity theory hold true because we have tested them in the real world. The main argument he has is that modern scientists are sitting around on their asses making things up and not testing them, saying look see my math based on this guys math, based on this shaky assumption, it makes sense so the universe must work this way. Yes and a brick will fall faster than a feather because its heavier, I can show you the math I did, so it must be true, no need to actually drop them from a tower and find out.

Mac has never had good karam. there was once a time when APPLE had good karma. All of that karma came from one man. Steve Wozniak... (I persoanlly own a Apple IIgs Woz edition) he had little to do with the Mac line and nothing to do with its current incarnations. The Mac has always been a soul-less corporate invention created to seem as though it was nice. History aside, its a very Steve Jobs machine and Steve Jobs is a ruthless shrewed business man that will give Bill gates a run for his money on unethical behavior.

Now, Mac does HAVE karam in the senes that what goes around comes around. By keeping a strangle hold on their product and not promoting 3rd party hardware and software, they isolated themselves to a minority. Frankly i am happy to see them finally migrate a little closer to the free and open platform that the majority of us have used, developed on and loved for longer that PPC has existed.

  9. people need to take a chiil pill about MS on PC Makers See Little Reason to Deploy XP N · · Score: 2, Interesting

I don't get what the deal is. If anything Microsoft is the one being treated unfairly in ALL of these "monopoly" related trials. Heck to imply that MS is a monopoly is to disregard Linux, BSD, Mac or any other Misc operating systems as Non-existent. Not that MS has ever actually been accused of that, simply "monopolistic practices". Glad to know you can have those without being a monopoly... it makes me feel like I have a chance too! Like maybe one day I will acquire monopolistic powers so I can like force my boss to give me a raise because I am the only one good at doing my job.

If you apply the logic people use against MS to competitors, such as Apple or even Linux distributions the arguments fall apart as ridiculous:

Apple should be forced to remove QuickTime and Safari.

No Linux distribution should be allowed to place a media player and a web browser in the same installation package.

KDE needs Konqueror removed! It deters people form using Lynx and firefox!

Heck lets get down to the real point. Nothing should ever be bundled with anything. Your OS should be a kernel and you need to buy a separate piece of software to actually do anything!

None of this makes sense. The people that are complaining, the "3rd parties" like real (has anyone ever mentioned another media play in the game) and Netscape suck. They made bad products a better product overtook them. End of line.

Look how quickly firefox took off! Its amazing how many people will switch when something equal or better comes around... but wait I thought we were all brain washed by bill gates' zombie ray?! Too many people just seem to thing big business is bad and immoral. That's fine! Frankly I hate corporate America, but... at least hate everybody fairly and equally. Redhat MS and Apple oh and IBM and Sony should all die horrible deaths because they are the oppressors. Technology should be made by hand... in my garage... with duct tape and crazy glue!

I shudder to think of a present where real player had become the de-facto standard.

I can also only imagine the flame wars that would have run rampant if this mentality had existed when evil MS integrated EDIT into MSDOS. Destroying the vital text editor market for competitors!!!

The only lesson I have learned from all of this is that governments are slower and dumber and more susceptible to bandwagon mentalities than I expected.

  15. CG a Fine ART, HA! on Are Computer Graphics A Fine Art? · · Score: 1

CG is in no way a fine art!, photoshop, maya, hell, microsoft paint if you use it, nothing you make can be a fine art for one simple reason. there is no such thing as fine art. I am a DA major w/ a CS minor, and my DA dept was very fine art centered. it was a rather unique program in this way, but instead of making me see what a wonderfull thing art was it made me realize that art is dumb and artists for the most part are dumb. have you ever noticed that most modern art looks like splatter painting by a two year old, that the famous artists or the 20th century don't hold a candle to the renisance artists? fine art is a fictional world, a bubble created by those people that claim to be artists. it is an entire world with nothing that supports it but hype and the littlest amout of effort and talent possible. it is a group of people puffing themselves up to others of their kind and selling peices amongst themselves in a little self contained non-productive community, but at least some of them actually paint w/ a brush. the crap i have seen people make in photoshop... ooooo! five filters, hey its art! i have seen it hanging on the walls of galleries and its sickening! like seeing a giant blank canvas with a smudge in the middle... the patrons will discuss the meaning of it while the artist is in the back, drunk or stoned, the state he made the thing in, and then he will come out and feed them some line of bull and they think he is brilliant. i know thats how it works, because i convinced people that a line i made in photoshop, yes thats all it was, a long line 1 pixel high and the photoshop max length long was art! so any of you who want to think things are fine art, know that you are the worst kind of evil, and to those of you who make CG for moves and photoshop images for the web and or page maker layouts, know that you are really doing something. something that makes a difference in real peoples lives, not just some phoney rich guy who doesn't know better.
those who can, do. those who can't are artists.
in truth everything that man makes should be considered art. hey some guy designed the way tyour PDA looks, and that was a matter of creativity, and thus art, but to make the division that there is high and low art is what ruins it all and what degrades talented people. but remember, high art is just a manifestation of a bunch of lame people who think and want to be better than you, because they put the lable artist on themselves. everytone is an artist in their trade, but least of all are those who hang pictures in galleries.

sorry about any above spelling errors...
i spilled coke in my keyboards an sometimes it sticks. :)

PS there are a few secrets to art i will pass on to all now, in case you want to make a livving ripping off the rich in the name of art.

    1) it helps to be gay/lesbian (lesbian/PMS art is almost all black and white photography by women, i had to live w/ a DA dept that kept letting all the girls forgo using computers for brining in the latest photo image of a shoe or girl covered in red paint oooo... i wonder what that represents)

    2) art is something tangable, peopel need to be able to buy it and put it in their house. remember, fine art is expensive, thats what makes it fine.

    3) the more stoned you sound, or the more drugs you actually use, the more brilliant you are as an artist (this is a working and historical fact) the merit of art is inversly proportional to number of brain cells the artist maintains.
