I think it means that it's so unfair that it shocks the conscience of the court. It has a lot to do with the essential nature of the subject matter of the contract and the relative bargaining power (or lack thereof) between the parties.
Our overcrowded prison system contains a large number of mentally ill persons who should be in mental hospitals which no longer exist. A lose lose situation - worse outcome for the mentally ill and higher economic cost to society. Even for those few with health insurance there is lack of parity between physical and mental health benefits.
"The idea that someone is a hypocrite because they hire a prostitute while simultaneously being against prenatal murder and homosexual marriage is convoluted at best..."
How about being against "prenatal murder" (abortion) and war in Iraq?
Why all these analogies I see over and over? Is it so difficult to understand? It's simply taking someone's intellectual property without consent. The fact that it's easy to do and difficult to prevent shouldn't make it hard to understand nor justify its doing.
Nothing really but some hardware is incompatible with some versions of Linux. Some users are unable to diagnose the source of the problem. "It doesn't work, therefore, the computer is broken." Free distros of Linux have forums but not direct tech support call lines so it's easier to call HP tech support.
It's more like 90 days since by Xp computer's hard drive crashed and I switched "everything" to my Linux hobby computer. I haven't looked back. Running Open Office, Firefox and Thunderbird gives me everything I need. I replaced the hard drive on my former "main" computer, re-installed Xp and went through Windows re-registration hell, but still use Ubuntu for all my everyday work except for an income tax program and a game. There's no way I'm going with all the added baggage to upgrade to Vista and MS Office '07.
"we see Exxon offering money for the predetermined outcome of 'scientific' research."
We see this regularly in court cases where each side hires their respective "experts." The difference here is the perceived objectivity of the IPCC people.
It's mostly lack of education in 3d world countries. Old versions of linux will run on old machine in command mode - no X. We could give them obsolete machines by our standards to run Linux but no one would know how to use them. Give them the education and they can earn enough to afford to buy more modern hardware and install the latest distributions. There's the irony.
Not insane but imperfect.Don't confuse the determination of guilt or innocence with the determination of sentencing. How much different is this than our federal mandatory sentencing laws? What's worse in China is that the the defendant doesn't have due process - right to cross examine, see evidence against him, have attorney get discovery etc. Bush's proposed legislation is veering towards the Chinese model.
What he's saying is that w/ a wide open unsecured wireless router, anyone on the network can download a file using the same IP address. If true, then you can't prove which computer did the illegal download. They'd have to seize the computer with the illegal file on it.
He knows Bill Gates well and trusts his judgment. He doesn't want the headaches of setting up and administering his own foundation when he feels that Bill's organization does what he wants. As for $1 per year salary, these guys don't need more and can cash out at lower cap gains tax rates on the stock sales.

My first job out of college was as an accountant in a Jewish CPA firm. After making some dumb mistake my supervisor called me "schmuck." I asked what that meant. He replied. "Trust me."
Why are you entitled to any better QoS than everyone else? We all want maximum QoS. If everyone demanded and paid extra for QoS than we'd all be getting the same service as before but paying more for it. It puts a smile on the face of the ISPs while screwing the public.
Off topic. The underground economy (UE) is a large number of widely differing transactions which may exploit but do not create the inherent lack of internet security. The fact that thieves don't report their illegal "income" from web fraud doesn't affect web security or lack thereof.
As for the parent article being a "government set up" - well, it doesn't make sense. They/it/"we" have more pressing problems. Internet security is itself real issue apart from the UE.
As for the US dollar - we've always had inflation and the means to slow it down. Anyone for higher interest rates? Gold was a good buy during the last few years - using hindsight - as was buying Google at the IPO price. So what? The last time when the price hit $500. people were predicting $1000. but it sank and languished for several years. Oil, instability in the mid east as well as our deficits affect the price. Again, these are different issues from Internet security.

Maybe some lawyer can answer this. Why doesn't some Linux co. ask for declaratory relief from court to force MS to put up or shut up?
This is the first time Fox News is posted as being free from political bias.
Beautifully said, anon. You expressed my feelings better than I could.
You can't take anything McCain says seriously. He wants the nomination so bad he'll say anything.

A house.
Where did you get 25 minutes from? even w/ TTax. It takes the average preparer much longer just to assemble the information.

Who was it said, "The law is an ass."? Maybe not the law per se, but in this case, the judge.
When I was 15 way back in the 50s we wished we could fuck like rabbits.

"It's like saying brain surgeons are smart. You have to be smart to fly a plane. So, why aren't all brain surgeons pilots?"
Too many are as are other MDs who have the $$ and share a superior self (I can do anything) image. Read the statistics on private pilot accidents.
You can lead a horse to drink but you can't make him water.

What would the other half be?

When I graduated from high school I thought I was smarter than my father. In the next 5 years I was amazed how much he had learned in the interim.

"Why do women shy away from this field? Reason number one is the view that it is for loners and geeks. "
How sexist of you! Who said women can't be loners and geeks? Didn't the pres. of Harvard get fired for proposing something similar?
