It is impossible to duplicate a live experience - so artists should focus on making people want to go out and see a concert.
Supply and demand will dictate who gets the best seats. I just hope the process can be more transparent - if you don't know somebody who works for ticket master or the local venue, it is extremely difficult to get good seats at ANY price.

However, it is still bad PR... you should never use Microsoft products - ever.
I enjoyed the boobs in the super bowl ads and signed up for a few domains. But now I am going to have to switch registrars unless you quickly change platforms and get the announcment about it on Slashdot within a few days.
We have hundreds of thousands of domains and millions of A, PTR, MX records. It is quite manageable with MyDNS. It uses a MySQL database with two simple tables - one for the domains and one for the address information.
It makes multiple name servers easier because you don't need to AXFR - you just use MySQL replication which is quite easy to deal with.

I've lived in Ohio and I have lived in Utah. The religious people here in Utah are much less frightening than the "Left Behind" kinds of freaks you find in the midwest bible belt. They are even more scary than the polygamists.
Microsoft could immediately put a nine figure dent into Dell's earnings, just like they did to IBM in the 90's.
Per-processor licensing is still happening.

I have been happy with WoW on Cedega for awhile now, 8 months perhaps. Sadly, it has required quite a bit of playing around with settings to get things working nicely.
Recently I installed Ubuntu and it was extremely easy to get NVidia, Cedega, and Warcraft to work... I only needed the memory workaround (0x010000000)
When you hit the back button to go to a page that had POST information, it requires you to re-submit the data rather than drawing the page from the cache. This used to work perfectly back in the Netscape 3.x days but has never worked properly since.

Find a single person who is "okay with that."
The whole cartoon situation is two problems, one much worse than the other. First, printing something that is offensive (shouldn't be a big deal, it happens every day, but it is still offensive). Second, reacting violently - which is completely inexcusable.
I haven't played Solaris - I'll have to dig up a copy of that one. But I was blown away by Pitfall 2 on the 2600 with its more realistic graphics, better sound (with a musical sound track!).
Can you provide some more details on how you are doing your de-interlacing? I haven't been able to make mplayer do it properly - VLC seems to be much better. Can you put an example command line here please?
It would be nice to see the last 100 stories in that same small font at the bottom or side of the page...
your "Older Articles" link under old stories has been horribly broken for years... the older articles link should pick up where the old stories secion leaves off. Instead, it seems to be random, and repeats a lot of stories.
The goal is to move beyond Windows, Explorer, Outlook, etc. and have people stop using them. An intentional leak like this is just a way to take mind share away from alternate technologies. I'm sure the strategy will work yet again.
> You can compile anything you want into the kernel.
Kernel hacks that aren't part of Linus' kernel are a nightmare to maintain over time. At one point my machine had a PPTP hack, a hack for my HDTV card, and a hack for my video card. Upgrading kernels was a nightmare.
A project isn't complete until it is easily usable by the major distros (debian especially). This means getting into the kernel, or X, or whatever projects are affected. Not easy sometimes unfortunately.
I use a 3ware 7810 and 4 250GB IDE disks in a RAID 5 configuration. The controller can be had for $200 or so on Ebay and works quite well (though you may want to use a 7850, somewhat better RAID 5 performance).
Obviously not everyone cares about things beyond basic web surfing. However, the applications that are possible with more bandwidth are quite exciting... there will never be enough.
Many of the supposed "advances" in media are really just compromises and reduction in quality - from mp3's instead of 24/96 wav files, and low quality video codecs whose single purpose is to reduce the bandwidth used to download TV & movies.
When you can download uncompressed 1920x1080 video over your broadband connection, and download a DVD worth of data in a few seconds, then we can start to talk about whether there is enough bandwidth.
The user is the one who decides which fonts are used. The web designer should only choose which words are larger or smaller relative to the other words on the page.
And of course, a web designer who chooses fixed width tables / columns instead of using a percentage of the window size should be used to practice new interrogation techniques at Gitmo.
It is silly to have each market restricted to so few stations. There should be thousands in each area, and the cost to obtain a license should be low enough that anyone can run one.

Just install a basic Ubuntu setup, it's easy.
This is the silliest argument imagineable.
In fact, I remember in the 80's people complained about how Bill Gates dressed, and how he used un-adult-like language at times (e.g. "That's cool").
If you want someone who dresses better, pick a different vendor/programmer/salesperson/whatever.
I just got an x2 3800 for $300, and it is excellent. It makes a big difference for MythTV.

Why is this on Slashdot when it is Windows-only.
ATI's drivers are worse than NVidia's in all circumstances - though both are an abomination of the GPL.

OK I'll admit that this is a minor issue.
Are you serious? The artistic license allows you to copy the code and put a GPL license on it if you want... there is no issue at all.

E.g. http://globalservers.com/
It is like colocation but less expensive. You share cpu & disk with other servers, but it is easier to maintain than a complete dedicated server.

Ubuntu does a great job as a server.
