There seems to be one of you whiny, racial-apologetic freaks under every rock. Even/. is no haven. Name a single, living black in the U.S. that is or was a slave.
What about all the non-blacks who were slaves throughout history? If I trace my ancestry back to some poor Helot from Greece, will I have a right to bitch about being on the other end of slavery?
I, for one, am ready to treat people for what they are. I don't care diddly about your damned ancestors.
Dude, you're assuming the Chinese actually purchased legitimate copies of the OS and Norton AV. I'm fairly certain little money has actually changed hands.
I saw no definitive evidence proving or disproving any of the bullet points listed in the article. TFA is unworthy of anyone's time. I cannot imagine anyone being swayed, regardless of which side of the global warming argument you stand on, by this.
Consumer Reports reported very high marks for the Geek Squad in their latest issue. I'm afraid that's all I have to go on because I (and I am sure everyone of you) would neither need their services nor shrink from the challenge of a really hard problem.
My guess is, the Geek Squad is likely adequate for those who would call in the first place.
Just start writing error-free code. Then you will never need a debugger. See? Simple. Of course since I have a patent pending on file extensions you will still likely get into trouble with my attorney.
How have you managed to stay in the industry so long? I just turned 40 and I am already being inched toward the door by management. I fully expect to be unemployable in 5 years by any HR dept. Tell me your secret.
I was wondering when someone was going to mention this. I find I spend more time figuring out what logic I want to perform or how to structure my code than I do pumping raw characters onto the screen. Typing speed has never been a limitation for me.
Yes, I also occasionally look at the keyboard to "recalibrate" myself. I am not a perfect touch typist nor even feel it's necessary.
If this billionaire didn't do anything special, why doesn't everyone do what he does?
The truth is he cannot possibly pull that off today. First Microsoft got wise and started getting stingy with stock. Second, Microsoft stock ain't all that any longer. Third, many (not all) today's coders tackle harder coding problems and see nothing but their normal paycheck.
It's just like Bill Gates: These guys were there at the right time in history. The opportunities they had disappeared when the market matured. As I look around now, I believe the next opportunities are going to require tremendous capital and research, effectively locking out the people with little more than drive and coding knowledge. There will never, can never, be another Bill or Charles.
The county doesn't own a thing (if they did, they could kick you out of the house any time without any legal trouble).
It's called imminent domain. The Supreme Court ruled the country or city can kick you out if the can get a higher-taxed property to take your place. I recall it caused quite a furor but very quickly died down.
Not all devs play by the rules. It's easy to write lame code that will not work properly from one version of Windows to the next.
I am in total agreement that it is not Microsoft's fault. This software should have been tested not only by the company selling it but ALSO BY THE DAMNED IT DEPARTMENT AT THE UNIVERSITY before deploying it live.
You do not have to be a MS fan-boy to appreciate the fact you ALWAYS test before production.
Don't we have... I don't know, something related to government services that they should be doing?
No, they don't. Congress exists to:
1) Spread FUD about the other party (pick one). 2) Hold hearings to get camera time. 3) Receive lobbyist money. 4) Sell legislation for campaign funds. 5) Campaign (as opposed to showing up for votes or listening to debate) 6) Spin spin spin spin spin 7) Revel in the fact the American taxpayer is damned stupid and easily led. 8) Vote for their own pay raise. 9) Act in their own self interest.
I am in the wrong business. I need to get out of software and into government. Please, vote for me. I will screw all of you but at least I'll be up front about it.
Becoming dependent on a commercial entity for providing you with data important for the ability of your democratically chosen government to take decisions is extremely dangerous.
I agree.
I also feel Google is under ZERO obligation to provide accurate, up-to-the-minute photos. If the data is that important to someone, then purchase it. Don't take Google for a free ride. Finally, the people that are trying to turn this into a major event should "get a life".
Since 1911 it has been illegal for manufacturers to force retailers into setting a price floor for products -- individual retailers get to decide how much they sell products for.
Why does Apple get to dictate the price of the iPod?
Surely with modern technology, we should moving away from pilots, not towards them. More high pilots wages just squeezes tight margins even further.
No reason to let anyone earn a fair wage, right? Let's outsource cheaper pilots.
If planes aren't fully automated within the next twenty years then something has really gone wrong.
Why not fully automate cruise ships, buses, surgery, and whatever YOU do for a living? Is it such a damned sin to employ people anymore? I would like to automate CEOs. Now, there's some real cost savings.
I want my beautiful wife and my 3 angels (my kids) surrounded by as much steel as possible while driving
Point 1: Is it okay to demolish the other, smaller car and give those passengers a zero percent chance of survival because you like your bumper 4 ft off the ground and backed by 4 tons of steel?
Point 2: In a roll-over accident the vehicle rotates around the "center of mass". That is well below the elevated passenger area in a hulking SUV. In other words, you and you precious family will get crushed.
"in real life, I'm tall, thin and good looking."
You, too?
Holy Shit!

Don't be so rash,
Just start writing error-free code. Then you will never need a debugger. See? Simple. Of course since I have a patent pending on file extensions you will still likely get into trouble with my attorney.
You've clearly drunk the cool-aid.
The 17th Amendment was the capstone. After that, States were effectively out of the Federal picture forever.
How have you managed to stay in the industry so long? I just turned 40 and I am already being inched toward the door by management. I fully expect to be unemployable in 5 years by any HR dept. Tell me your secret.
He meant the lower case "m".
Bingo!

That's a fairly distorted view of property tax
I believe it to be accurate.

Uh...Microsoft is on the phone for you.....something about being sorry for some kind of spilled beverage the other day? You better take this.
I suspect their poorly written java applets are the cause or all the problems with Vista.
But Java is write once, run everywhere

Lorentz factor, anyone? Why do people always forget that?
The word "Cabal" springs to mind.
It's called COSTCO. You pay a fee to wander in the store and buy things.

Besides, most accidents happen on take off and landing
Yeah, considering crashing is a form of landing, I'd say you're correct.
