Safe to say that the claims of M$FT's monopolies over the OS and Office application markets may now be officially blown out the backsides of the EU courts and State's PA's here.
Time will wither, decay, and ultimately destroy java(tm) just fine. Real/.'ers should be looking ahead what will arise from it's ashes or will merely sweep the ashes out of the way. My guess is it will not be yet another C decendant. How about something that is easy to use (graphic), intuitive to form objects and logic, and runs so fast that everyone will forget that it might be interpreted under the hood? FORTH-2006? SqueekProfessional? APL's evil twin, LPA? LOGO? The work awaits...
If the software item was free - none of this would be a problem as no one would be stealing your profits from a copycat website - we would just call it a "mirror"./innocence-off
Damn. I hate Oracle. The company has been so arrogant and nazi-like since the days when their db treated every host machine's address space like a big, stupid PC. They insist on bloody everything acting like oracle was the operating system and therefore can't take full advantage of any innovation not made by them (of which there are maybe, 2?). Peoplesoft gets assimilated into the OraBorg.
Is it that truly useful software must be written by students or government employees, who do not need remuneration based on value. If government pays for it, then it is really free, isn't it/sarcasm.
is widely hinted at returning to a simpler and more meaninful definition by regarding GPL4 compliancy as "Public Domain", given freely to humanity to be used in any way whatsoever by whomever, forever. And if you make money doing it, we don't care. Pbbbbbblfffffft.:P

real pro implementations are STILL obsessed with performance, even on totl machines. It's what sells and what makes software succeed. That's why most pro sw is still in C (C++).
So could apollo 11. But the LEM computer went south just before touchdown and one pilot who checked his ego at flightschool hand landed it safely. Think before issuing platitudes.
how's the marketing department doing at ol'Big Blue these days? I was waiting for some salesbot to come posting here...
with end-user experience, perception IS the only reality.
How about some kind of sail?
if you can replace them, someone ELSE can sell you one. Not Apple's style. They'd sell you the CD's if they could.

The one mouse button - any application designed well should only need one button.
Hrair's limit (7+-2 for usability) is effectively 2/7's (3/7's on some systems) impaired leaving little complexity left for the screen.

So's my shop-vac, if you don't connect it to the network.
IBM could embrace .net and crush SUN with it's thumb if it wants to - and just might some day. It's how Ogre-companies work.

Scientifically Illiterate Bullpucky!
Java is not a country, nor a beverage, nor a movement - it's a copyrighted trademark.

Not meaning to be a troll here. I liked PD software. But even trolls can be right about some things.

HaHaHaHaHaHaHa, whew, Sniff!

DEC did NOT die. It was killed in an aggravated assault and robbery.
