The best way to defend from internet attack also works in the real world. Its called "Don't make large groups of people angry."

This seems like complaining that the internet allows collaboration of large numbers of like minded people. Yeah, thats the point. The failure of this article is to understand that it is not organized. Thats like saying that all the death threats the Dixie Chicks got all came from one organized structure.

Hundreds of thousands of people are not going to conspire to commit a single crime (Anthrax letter example). That's ridiculous.

To suggest that just because a large number of people are equally angry and respond in a similar way (through mailing etc), that the response is organized is stupid. People who want control set up straw man organization because they can't compete against 100,000 individuals. How many times have we heard "Those protests are completely organized by organization XYZ, they have buses that bring people in". Or in labor problems: "Its XYZ union that is causing the strike, most of the workers don't care" By using the tactic of combining the perception of voice down to a single entity, detractors can be more persuasive in gaining mindshare.

This trailer dissapoints. It looks like a money grab movie. It looks like it might be Pg-13. It seems to have the T2 plot minus the interesting parts. It has almost no actors over 25. Sexism aside, the thought of a young, hot female villain doesn't work. The thought of Arnold fighting a 20 something girl for an hour and a half sound boring. The sets in the trailer look very cheesy (esp. the military hq with the plywood looking consoles and switches from radio shack). Theres no T1 or T2 actors.

  23. An analysis on Why Nerds Are Unpopular · · Score: 3, Insightful

To understand the majority of motivations of a secondary student we must look at primitive man. What are the goals of primitive man:

    1. Survival
    2. Procreation
    3. Control over their environment and peers (promotes survival)

All people strive towards these goals every day to varying degree. The majority of students in secondary school are interested in the shortest path to these goals. They go to school to socialize in an attempt to better position themselves for 2 and 3. This could be termed popularity.

Thus, every student at the school is seen as competition for societal control and procreation. Everyone faces the same hostility that so-called nerds face, however nerds make no attempt to mitigate it. Nerds are people see all the posturing as futile. They don't want in on the contest to be the top primate. I hate to say it but there is a definite intellect barrier. Asking why a nerd doesn't get involved in social circles is like asking why Jeffrey Daughmer didn't feel remorse when cutting people up. They just don't see the point. Nerds have an "i'll win later when I have the advantage" attitude.

This doesn't mean the nerd is intentionally avoiding socializing. Their minds are just running programs in the background just like everyone else. Thus once the "win" threshold is crossed in the nerd's mind, they immediately go into overdrive mode. Get them out of the school society, give them lots of attention and suddenly the become King Caesar. The opportunity for societal gain is too good to pass up. The advantage has been gained.

    Basically in nerdese:
non-nerd is to zerg rush as nerd is to battlecruiser

"When has Europe, as a whole, stood up in a meaningful way and taken a stand for against anything?"

Europe isn't supposed to 'stand united'. Your forgetting that Europe is comprised of several different countries each with their own language and system of values. And what, exactly, are they required to take a stand on? Simply surviving, pursuing happiness, and prospering is not enough? The common theme that I keep hearing is "Getting tough for getting tough's sake" is not logical.

"At least they've got the courage to a) say what they mean and b) act on it."

Does a dog know what its doing when it tries to hump a person's leg? It has acted on something, is it courageous? I could say I'm going to take a dump, and go take a dump. Am I courageous? Hitler could have said that he was going to exterminate all the crippled people and then he did it. Was he courageous? Your definition of courage is worthless.

The administrative branch, by your definition, is not courageous. They want to "disarm" Iraq which can be accomplished today with the air power in the region and those nice b/w photos. However, what they want to do is remove the government from power. Two different objectives. They will not come out and just say "We want to remove the government and instill our own government" They keep using the word disarm.
