All they have to do is release a list of the CD's that are susposed to have it and many audiophiles will be too scared to rip them because they will lose quality.
In the every box of cheerios you get a copy of the Powerrangers movie that you can play 3 times before you have to buy another box.
This would enable cheap short life DvD's to be given away to people. Perhaps a movie mag could put on it all the new previews they had at such a small cost. As much as i dont like the idea there are many uses for this technology.
Also I could see some of those online places that will let you rent DvD's over the net use such a thing. They send it out and you get to watch it twice or three times and they save money buy not having to worry about postage. I kinda hope this works and kinda don't due to it could become the standard and evuantally you wont be able to buy movies anymore but be forced to rent them.
So the point of my comment is this. Any technology when used can be either good or bad. This has the future of both. I imagine both uses would get used out of it.
It will search the web and email all copies of the Goatse picture to my hated foes. I am sure google will like it because I could put thier foes on the list as well. then the world will rue the day!
I think it would depend on the DJ. Also they could give out a lower quality recording. With something like this they could control the quality that would be transmitted. Just put low quality onto the transmitter and let it loose. Or perhaps they could just give out a sampler of what his music is like. Perhaps 3 minute session something along those lines.
Imagine going to a club with your little receiver device or whatever and while you have fun and dance and such it would download. then when you wake up in the morning anything the DJ did last night you could have avaible because they setup stations there for your device to download from. Goto a music festival and at the end of the day have a complete mix of everything. Also the people could not only include mp3's but web sites and pictures for those who are seeking more info on whatever they encountered. also they could incorperate this into libraries so when you pass by someone thier recommended book titles and summeries would be downloaded.
"It legitimized the shareware movement, starting in 1993 with progressive releases of the Doom franchise, which generated more than $100 million in revenue (even though roughly 15 million copies of the original were downloaded for free). "
Now if only the RIAA and other places would read that and understand that sometimes when done properly that such things do work in a internet world.
"We have not released Xandros Linux yet. However, for Linux enthusiasts who would like to try the Open Circulation version of Corel LINUX OS Second Edition, we are now providing it as a no charge download from the Xandros FTP site.
I loved playing with corel linux when it first came out. It was really easy to setup and gave my little brother a computer that would surf the web and do simple things for him since he didnt have enough money to purchase a copy of windows. Though I hope they include alien or a package converter. One of the small problems my brother ran into with Corel Linux was since its Debian based and not off the RPM it was tough trying to teach him how to convert the packages and get them to run.
I wonder if Wine or lindows would efficiently run on this now. The idea of perhaps running Bleem or some other emulators on the PS 2 would be great. Perhaps a dreamcast emulator evuantally. The hardware is there. Just need someone with lots of free time.
Or perhaps someone could write a DeCSS program that would run under it:-)

I can see it now.

With any company that offers a service I try to look into it as much as possible. Its the old standard and code that has been repeated so many times.
Buyer beware
Only thing that qwest is strictly regulated on is the wireline. The wireless and DSL are both a free market. I hope qwest does straighten up thier act but also I hope people see this and learn what has been repeated for years and years.

Perhaps as they slowly introduce it to the rest of the population people will realize that thier habits will have to change(my mom rips and so does my little brother to avoid playing toaster oven all the time)
Perhaps they will force people to educate themselves on which CD's to purchase and not purchase. perhaps not.

I remember when I was younger I used a.bat file to create a simple menu system for my brothers to be able to play the games they wanted to play. It even had simple graphics from the wonderful echo command.
they don't even have to put it on the CD.

Now all I need is a way to get that slinky through customs and past the metal detectors.
Cost of airfare 500$
Taxi out to Pyrmid 50$
Being able to finally watch your long slinky in action -Priceless

Imagine the uses for it.

DOH Wine was first to come to my mind. I keep forgetting Wine Is Not a Emulator.
Someone mentioned porting MAME to it. Which would be rather cool.
I wonder how well this would do with SETI program on it?
to beat the dead horse....

But of course I am a idiot.
Wake up in the morning at 4am by the voice...
"Hey Doodz Youz been ownd by Leet Haxor"
Then my refridgator would be like
"Yo Fatty come get some cause I got your milk and cookies right here"
The idea of this would be great but I wish the article could have gone more into depth. For the above would not make me look forward to the future.

we will have chips that will evolve and reprogram themselves so they will increase in effeciently and speed.
On the otherhand we have the ability to put chips into humans for tracking medical info and possibly control the populous.
I am not worried about the future. I am worried about today.
