I agree, where I work ( think of someone on a ship ) it does not matter as much what you know or how much better you preform, without paper to back you up, you get stuck in a pay grade. Being great at what you do can get you to the top of your pay grade faster, but sooner or later you hit the top 1/4 and get the whopping 1 - 2% raise a year. They would rather hire someone with a fraction of the experience ( or none at all ) with the paper or hire a consultant at 3x+ what you get instead of bumping you to the next grade.

In my case, a couple of reasons.

1st my video card does not have a TV out, nor do I have a video card capable of recording TV.

2nd the computer room is 2 floors above the AV room, this would make a hookup pretty tough.

Sooner or later I will get around to getting something that I can connect up to the network to play digital content from the computer on the stereo, but I doub't it would handle streamed DRM content.

  4. my 2c on British TV Station Offers Downloads · · Score: 3, Interesting

It should be offered as a download, not streaming. No one wants buffering issues when too many are trying to watch the video, I guess it could be used as a break to get something to eat/drink. And who wants to watch on a computer monitor when you have an AV room?

"Come on family, lets crowd around dad's desk to watch some telly on the 19" flat screen, we'll give the 60" HDTV and 7.1 a rest for the night."

Heck offer it as a commercial free download to Tivo or Replay, but don't time restrict it. Most already skip commercials anyway.

And lower the price, ~$3 for a 43 min show ( thats about all that is left after commercials are removed from an hr show ) is a little steep.

With a credit card, I can pay for an item or service and if I am dis satisfied with the repairs to my car or the item I bought will not work correctly, I can refuse to pay until satisfied. With cash you are screwed.

When I rent a car I get the insurance covered by the credit card saving about $14 a day.

When I purchace an item the warantee gets doubled up to 1 year extra. This has actually helped me get a tape deck repaired which failed 2 months out of warantee.

Lets say I have to pay for an item costing $5000, I have the cash, but why use it? It can earn another month or two interest while the charge floats on the credit card.

This credit card has no yearly fees.

As for paying cash for a hotel room, you will also have to front 1 nights stay ( in cash ) in addition to your total cost of the room, unless you don't mine the phone turned off for long distance calls, any mini bar locked, movies turned off, etc...

But then again the same people who pay cash for rooms most likely get the "day or hourly rate" and like to have cinder block walls, vibrating beds and mirrored ceilings.

Since you are screwed already, and the cost will be the same, get their modem, use it and keep yours on the side as a backup. Hopefully a huge request for new leased modems will hurt them. If you feel like it, return it in a few months, minus any documentation and packaging and let them pay the costs to repackage and give to someone else.
