  1. Spamassassin on Microsoft and Yahoo! Fight Spam - Sort Of · · Score: 1
I've found that SA does a good job with 419s. Every month or two I get a 419 hit my inbox, but no solution will be able to block 100% of spam without false positives.

SA has been great with respect to false positives. I've only had 1 or 2 non-spam messages ever wind up in the "probably spam" folder (which only sees about 3 spams per day... not too hard to sort through), and have never had a non-spam message rejected outright (if I had, the sender would have contacted me and said, WTF? since I reject during SMTP... I don't /dev/null any mail.)

When my wife did it some white woman totally freaked out, rolled her window up as fast as she could
You know it's funny, I was in the car with my sister-in-law and she did the same thing. I asked her if everything was ok, and she said that there was a bee that flew in and out of the window (she is allergic to bee stings) and she wanted to close the window ASAP while it was on the outside.

It wouldn't surprise me if a black person who happened to be within 100 yards of the car went and told everyone they knew how they were victimized by my sister in law. That is their perception, based on their own prejudices. In reality she was trying to avoid a swollen trip to the emergency room. She was so mortified of the bee, she would not have noticed the presence of any other person.

My point is you don't know a person's intentions, so you should not prejudge them. You should assume the best rather than the worst, unless there is a tangible reason to believe otherwise. Do you really know why this woman rolled up her windows? Did you ask her?

Nope. You and your wife just assumed that because your wife is black and this woman was white that she felt threatened by your wife. You said yourself that it is implausible that your wife could be perceived as a threat, yet you assume this woman found your wife to be threatening simply because of her race. That is a very racist attitude you two have, and I hope you can overcome it.

What happens if you accidentally delete an important file and don't realize you've done it until a month later? Do you keep your LVM snapshot active for months at a time?

You should check out the rsnapshot utility. It stores multiple snapshots of your data based on times that you specify (I store a week's worth of daily snapshots, a month's worth of weekly snapshots, and then 6 months of monthly snapshots). But it stores using hardlinks, so if a file doesn't have any changes, it doesn't take up any more space in the other snapshots.

Also, it is automated, so you don't have to worry about LVM silently discarding your changes when your snapshot fills up.

For offsite backups, you can do remore rsnapshot, but what I do is every so often tar up my snapshot directory and pipe the tar through gpg which encrypts and compresses very well. Make sure to use gpg -c unless you also have your gpg key backed up somewhere! Anyhow, I burn the resultant encrypted file to CD. (You can use DVD if you have more data... or multiple DVDs).

Oh, rsnapshot is free/open source, of course. :-)
