    They could try snail mail. You know the method that doesnt start with "stop what you're doing and listen to our message NOW". Provide all the information in the flier for me to check the charity out and make sure it's legit too... That would be a bonus. When I'm reading my mail is the ONLY time during the day I'll entertain such requests. I'm not doing anything else or being interrupted from something more important.

    A smart charity would honor the DNC list, even though they're not required to. Simplest way to ensure that I will never give a DIME to your charity is to bother me on the phone or knock on my door.

    I donated a perfectly good car, everything working, to a charity that collects such things for single mothers looking to get on their feet and into the work force. I did this because I got a flyer in the mail, decided I liked the idea, and wanted to make sure that the car that had helped ME get on my feet went to someone who would make best use of it. (I had also heard of the charity before and was intrigued by their mission.)

    If I had received a phone call or a door visit from someone asking for same, that never would have happened.

    Look at the average resume of a typical 4 digit account. I guarantee that they have achieved more before they signed up for slashdot than you have in your entire existence. Certainly more than I have.

    The point is they very likely went out of their way to make sure the update WOULD brick unlocked phones.

    In what universe is it reasonably likely that an update that just adds a revenue stream for Apple (iTunes Wifi store) would brick a device just because it's not locked to a particular service provider without malicious intent on the part of Apple?

    In none.

    It's a clearly intentional effort on the part of Apple to punish customers that don't do as they want. I hope they (Apple) pay through the nose for it.

    THey won't get "all those customers" if Vonage dies. I'm a Vonage customer, and if Vonage goes away, I'll do without my landline and go cell only (Cingular customer). I'll NEVER do business with Verizon.

    Bullshit. My ReplayTV box communicated for years with the listing service over my Vonage line without a glitch. 9600 bps is a bit slow, but it's still a modem communication.

    Absolutely correct. Jackson's contract calls for him to be compensated with a certain percentage of the income from the movies in question. New Line tried to screw him by cooking the books.

    Of course it's about money. Money he's entitled to.

    The statement "he will never make another movie for us" is better framed as "we will never have another successful movie".

    Directors aren't stupid. If they see Jackson getting screwed here, only worthless hacks like Uwe Boll will bother with New Line in the future.

    Not if they want a subscription fee. I'm not going to pay to play that. I wouldn't even bother with hardcore mode for FREE. Hell I'll savescum nethack. I don't have time to start over every time I either fuck up, or some obscure game bug kills me.

    Yup, biggest thing GW has going for it is that there's no month-to month subscription.

    Hellgate London is dead to me if they try to charge for online. I see no indication that that game will have the kind of on-line experience that games like WoW provide (dynamic and changing).

    If they go that route, I don't give a shit if it's one of my favorite development teams ever. They will not see a fucking cent of my money.
