There's more to this, though, I think. We're going to be hearing a lot more about how "websites don't need to be made any more" and how it's not the presence of individuals on the web that really adds value.
There are very rich and very powerful forces that would like the Internet to become nothing but a commercial vehicle for the largest corporations. We're going to hear about how there's really no value in somebody making "another blog" and we're going to hear a lot of aspersions cast upon people who put up content without it being connected to business. Oh, certain big blogs are OK, because they drive eyeballs, carry advertisement and push opinions. Gizmodo: good. - Wired.com: good - Wikileaks: very bad
That's easily countered. You just come back with 8 articles that don't need to be written anymore.
In other words, these idiots have turned Mohammad into an idol by their actions and words, and so are violating the very law they seek to enforce on others.
I am not an expert on the Islamic faith, but I rather suspect they turned their backs on Mohammad when they started blowing up women and children.
It all depends on how you interpret the religion, or rather how your religious leaders interpret it, since ordinary people are always asked by religious leaders to take things on "faith". (The degree to which you are asked to take things on faith differs, but this underlies every major religion as far as I can tell).
Faith is code for disconnecting your mind and "believing" what you are told without quesiton. This is why religion - even "moderate" religion - can be so damaging. You surrender your ability to reason about things to people that have their own agendas. Whether you're asked to believe in the son of God saving us from sin, the great prophet Mohammed showing us the way, the wise Buddha teaching us how to be at spiritual peace, or the Xenu and space aliens hardly matters. With it comes instruction on how you must live your life, and what you should do, and the faithful may not question the "true word" of whomever.
Why are we so determined as a nation to magnify and extend the current economic crisis to match the Carter years?
Some of us prize health over a new tv?
It's not people who want a new TV that will go without. They'll just rack up more on credit. It's those who can no longer afford to eat or heat their homes etc. and can't get credit that will suffer.
I didn't blame it on a weak will. In fact I didn't blame it on anything. I don't even care about blame. You don't know how lucky I am either, how I've had to personally build up will-power.
But it doesn't matter. If you are sedentary, eat poorly, and don't sleep right, there are scientific studies that show bad things will happen. It's not a matter of opinion, and it doesn't matter why. Nature doesn't care.
You have been able to do it. Hence you are lucky. Others have not been able to despite their best efforts and fools like you just put them down as weak willed. Nature may not care but that doesn't mean we should be assholes to people who find it hard or even assume that just because we can do it others aren't trying hard enough.
OK, it sucks for those people that it's not possible for. But it's not like they are going to escape the consequences of being inactive just because they are stuck in the wheelchair. Obviously if someone is only limited because they have low willpower, the thing they need to work on is getting more willpower.
Interesting that you should mention people in wheelchairs. Not too many of them actually have weight issues. Hauling your weight around in one of those things probably does burn energy, but still they can't do anything you'd call excercise. Not too many of them have to look after children and work 12+ hour days either. Stil if a sedentary lifestyle was all that it took you'd expect them to almost all be fat and dead at 30.
There are very real differences in makeup, metabolism, apetite and circumstance between people. Insisting that you're right to just blame it on a weak will is indefensible. You just don't get how lucky you are.
Flightgear (free) and X-Plane (proprietary) have some interesting features and are great sims in their own right but they don't have 1/10th of the features and mods available that MS Flight Sim has. That's not going to change any time soon I'm afraid.
If you want to see how heavily modded a game can get take a look at Microsoft's Flight Simulator series, especially the 2004 version. There are terrabytes of free and paid mods for EVERY aspect of the game. Aircraft models and artwork, instrumentation (including binary mods), weather, scenery, visual controls, sounds, special effects. Even hardware manufacturers that could sell you specialised consoles and panels to integrate You name it. The default simulator is very game like. With addons you can replicate fine details like the flight dynamics and starting sequences of aircraft so that you can follow real airliner manuals while flying over scenery based on satellite imagery. The simulator was built with extensibility in mind, but the modders really pushed the limits too. It's a pity this franchise died. Even though mods are still made for FS2004 and FSX, the team that build the simulator were disbaned a couple of years ago and in a lot of ways what we have now is a zombie mod community. A shadow of what it once was.
He may have a medical condition like early onset Alzheimers.
Indeed, I specifically excluded people in that type of category.
No you didn't. Even so it's the vast majority of people in that category. How many 40 year olds do you know that don't have any medical conditions at all?
Try excercising if you're overweight and have some kind of physical injury. The trouble with unhealthy is that a couple of issues can then lead to a spiral. This idea that someone can click their fingers and excercise some will power to get healthy is a luxurious dellusion only healthy people with too much spare time can afford.
I didn't say it was easy, but if they can't find a way to exercise and lose weight, they are going to suffer the consequences. I mean, this is nature: nature doesn't care if it's hard. Hopefully for them they will be one of the lucky people who doesn't see any negative health effects even though they are overweight and treat their body badly. But it's not likely.
Not easy? Try not possible for many. Yes you suffer the consequences but requiring that some people make a superhuman effort to meet your standards is ridiculous.
Incidentally, regarding the people who treat their bodies badly and still end up healthy, they usually have something else going on that balances it out. Like maybe they eat bacon every day, but they also eat spinach and get lots of exercise. Or maybe they party all night, but then balance it out by sleeping until the afternoon. It's rare to find people who truly abuse their bodies and don't end up paying for it.
What a complete load of BS. How many Hollywood drug addled boze ridden idiots only suffer the medical consequences of their stupidity when they accidentally overdose and end up "tragically" dead? I don't think a lot of those kinds of people do much to balance it out. Your belief in this fair kind of world where you're to blame if you have issues is well and truly a fantasy.
If you're that young and already having memory problems (assuming you don't have a brain tumor or something), it's lifestyle related. Get out and exercise, eat well, there's probably some nutrient you're missing. Eat lot's of broccoli. Sleep enough. Don't under-estimate the brain wasting effects of alcohol or cocaine. I don't know you so I can't say exactly what your personal problem is.
Fuck me! Not all human beings are the same and what's true for you might not necessarily be true for the parent. Suggesting that he eat some broccoli, and insinuating that he's got drug and alcohol problems is borderline criminal. He may have a medical condition like early onset Alzheimers. Correct thing to do if he's not just being melodramatic is to see on or more doctors.
A lot of people, for example, don't eat enough vegetables. They'll eat a salad once a week or an apple every few days or something and hope that's good enough. It's not. You may not notice the effects right away, but over time they will add up as your body uses up its stored nutrients.
A lot of people who have treated their bodies like SHIT have been sharp as a tack into their 70s and 80s. This idea that if someone has to be doing something wrong in order to have a medical issue belongs in the dark ages. Of course treating your body well will make the most of your situation, but that doesn't mean it'll work miracles.
By the way try getting a full night's sleep, eating properly and excercising when you have a couple of kids under 2. a sick partner and a job that ties up 12 hours of your day 5 or 6 days a week. Or if you have a sleep disorder. Not everyone is fresh out of college with no kids and a cushy job.
What they really proved, at long last, is that gaseous systems are stable for small perturbations.
In layman's terms: the Butterfly Effect is bogus. It takes a very large perturbation to convert a stable portion of atmosphere into a storm, and the flutter of a butterfly's wings is not significant to tipping the balance.
Um since when was weather on this planet equivalent to an ideal gas? An ideal gas is not a chaotic system. So the Boltzmann equation has nothing to do with the butterfly effect. You're talking out of your arsehole, and slashdot is collectively too ignorant to call you for it, hence you've been modded informative. Fucking sad.
Not true, actually. They can also work with the information your "friends" give them.
Here's a thought. Don't get yourself photographed doing crazy illegal shit. Hell another thought don't do crazy illegal shit. If you're letting your friends photograph you smoking pot, having sex with hookers, putting graffiti on public walls etc. YOU are making you unemployable.
The big rewards lately have gone to Non-practicing entities. Those with no products. AKA Patent Trolls.
Which is why IP law - not just patent law but also copyright (though possibly not trademark) needs to be completely rethought. Bandaid solutions aren't going to work for a system that sees the original inventor or creator of a work not rewarded AND others seeking to create or invent thwarted. The current system is madness and guarantees stagnation and corruption. This is the opposite to the stated goal of such law for the whole of society and the only ones seeking to uphold it and ever increase draconian punishments for failing to comply are profiteers who belong on the B ark.
Aw, ubermiester, couldn't you have phrased that as "begs the question" so we could have 70 pedantic emails on the history and correct use of the term "begs the question" with pedants insisting that it is a logical fallacy and doesn't mean invites or asks the question?
Often on the weekends my sons friends will be at out place to use the wii. They spend more time jumping around in front of the TV than they would spend with a different console but I usually take them out to the school oval to kick a soccer ball around as well. I am sure they get more health benefit from being outside then from being in front of the wii.
How about AHA's logos on normal sporting equipment. Footballs, etc?
I'm fat and have a sendentary job. Do you think that if I run the health benefits past my employer he'll let me stay home and play my Wii for a few months? Because if he'll do that I can claim it and the games on tax as a necessary part of my job too.
Why don't people do this instead. Put a lab monkey next to an active mobile phone and keep them there for several years.
Are you crazy? Do you know how much the phone bill would be man???
After that, dissect the monkey for any signs of cancer.
Why? We have so many teenage girls permanently attached to their cellphones that it seems like a waste of a perfectly good monkey. Of course some of the dads might object if their angelic daughters were dissected, but hey you have to sacrifice for progress.
Don't install 100 addons, and there is no bloat or memory mismanagement.
Without the addons, what the fuck is the point of Firefox?
Seriously, if they release a broken addon framework that allows the addons to make the product unstable, then put addons as a feature, they can't come back and blame the addons.
Of course Firefox is losing support among the OSS front. It's feature-rich, and is widely used.
Perfect time to turn our backs on it, and kill it!
Of course Firefox is losing support among the OSS front. It's feature-rich, and is widely used. Perfect time to turn our backs on it, and kill it!
Well it wouldn't have anything to do with shoving changes down the user's throats ala "Asesome" bar would it? Or memory leaks from hell, crashing due to poor extension crash prevention then blaming the extension writers or users who dare to enable extensions (Hint: That's why Firefox is popular in the first place).
That was my thought as well. There's a difference between a guide on making a few kinds of small scale explosives and even manuals on geurilla tactics and a manual for making illegal weapons of indiscriminate destruction.
I have a lot of Astronomy books. They describe what is needed to create supernovae and active galactic nuclei. Do you have any idea how small these terrorist books look in comparison? "Argonaut Octopus" ... That's the new Ubuntu release, right?
after mating with the tiny male (whose tentacle/penis breaks off and remains in the female).
Yeah that sounds about right.
Bullshit. Neither X-Plane nor MSFS had flight dynamics 100%. Engine startup etc on payware on MSFS wins hands down. Scenery wins hands down.
