What the fuck has/. to do with open source? I see loads of propeitary crap beeing hyped here. And if anyone makes a comment about it and say to use free software instead he'll be modded as -1 troll within seconds.
What I still miss in mozilla (now using 0.9.8) is acceptable support for java and flash. When both plugins are installed they give me so many problems that I end up by uninstalling them.
That's just gods way of telling you that flash and java are utter wank. No stupid, impossible to find your way around navigation flash crap and no smack the monkey ads. What the hell are you complaining about?

Well, maybe that used to be the point, but its not anymore, nowdays the point is to increase the power and money of already rich and powerful corporations. Much like anything else in soceity.
Just look at new and exciting deals like Fast Track and MAI. Politician all over the world are competing over who can be the fastest to sell out out our democracy, indepencence and freedom to huge corporations.
And it's not gonna stop either, it's just gonna get worse and worse. Democracy today is no more than a chimera, all the real power is in money. And its gonna stay that way as long as we don't make the economy part of the democratic process aswell. But I doubt thats ever gonna happen.
I'm starting to be real glad I won't be around a 100 years from now.
Because OSX is like a really, really cool toy, like. And 'round here we really, really, like cool toys. It is much more important than freedom because you can't use freedom as a really, really cool toy.
Therefore we choose to ignore the proprietary nature of OSX and Photoshop, we choose to ignore that Apple threatend to sue people who make themes that looked like OSX and we choose to ignore that Adobe invoked the DMCA to have Dimitry Sklyarov arrested because apple and adobe makes really, really cool toys. And nothing is more important to us slashdot-dwellers than really, really cool toys.
Nope, this was an Canadian court. Didn't you know that the good ol' U.S.A. makes the laws of the internet.

Hmm, I'm not a very experienced Windows user, but as far as I can tell Gnome and the Windows UI work pretty similar, even if they don't look the same. I also doubt that anyone but an extremly small minority would go through the trouble of changing the Window UI for something else. I think it would be better to spend the limited development resources to make Gnome better for *nix platforms.
You are right of course. Anyone who says otherwise will be modded as a troll. And everyone knows that being modded as a troll means you're wrong on the issues.
I honestly don't give a shit if apple is easier to use than free software. Apple is just another proprietary software company, just as bad as Microsoft. The only reason slashdot-dwellers don't hate 'em as much as MS is that Jobs is a crappier saleman than Gates.
Are you not arguing against your initial position here? Maybe the ROX people were dissatisfied with what was avalible and decided to "live outside the standard". If you don't want to tweak your computer, then use whatever desktop that came with it, you don't have to use ROX if you don't want to.
Not that I use any of those desktop thingys, but choice is a good thing. One of the most annoying things about the windows XPerience is that everything has to be done the way the designers thought was best.
X has done this for me properly everytime I tried for at least 2 years now. You have to type a command to do it instead of automatic detection at boot, but I consider that a feature.
Dude, using hotmail is a major inconvenience. If you have to respond to anything, the legitmate messsage will be buried among a gazillion spams. Especially since a bug in hotmail when you're using Mozilla means you have to delete the spam one at a time.
The FAQ says its not under the GPL. Then what licence is it under? Is it free software?

Put 4 medium-sized noisettes on a tray, pour a pint of pommes over them and cook in oven for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
...if they bought evil from Microsoft?
I was under the impression that copyright violation don't fall under criminal law. Am I wrong?

try here
Why? Maybe I'm daft, but I don't see the point.
So, those of you that has tried it. Is it reasonably stable or are they rushing it to fight KDE?

More proprietary software. OS X: lets sell out freedom for eyecandy.
As a diehard Emacs bigot I'd prefer Control and Meta pedals.

Name one thing X can't do that Windows can.

Ever since I started bouncing all spam I've seen a drastic decrease in incoming crap. They don't seem to like that.
